Feeling nosey! I was on another thread where the OP had £600 to spend on an engagement ring and the first comment was how it was a lot of money and was she sure she wanted to spend that much.

OP posts:
SlipperyLizard · 25/09/2018 08:16

£0, I didn’t want one.

WipsGlitter · 25/09/2018 08:20

@grannyscobwebs we discussed what they cost and his budget.

cindersrella · 25/09/2018 08:28

£1200, 12 years ago 😀

Am i the only one wanting pictures?

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 25/09/2018 08:33

About £1600 I think. I only know because it's listed on the house insurance though.

derekthe1adyhamster · 25/09/2018 08:42

I really can't remember.Either £250 or £2500. I think it might be the latter which scares me when I think about it! We chose it together.

DuchessMinnie · 25/09/2018 08:49

3k second hand and I love it

How much was your engagement ring?
QueenofallIsee · 25/09/2018 08:54

I have only been engaged a few weeks Grin, second time around for us both. I have no idea what it cost but it’s 1940s sapphire and diamonds in a flower setting. I adore it

TheCraicDealer · 25/09/2018 09:02

£2400 two years ago. It's an oval diamond with little diamonds around it on a plain 2mm gold band. The setting makes the stone seem larger IRL and I get quite a lot of comments on it, but I wouldn't have wanted to spend much more money on it than we did. It was made for us by a local jeweller (not actually any more expensive, would recommend) and they offered to keep looking for a bigger stone, but in a moment of uncharacteristic self restraint I said no Grin my wedding band is a plain 2mm gold one as I wanted something very simple so I have an excuse for an eternity ring in a few years

mydietstartsmonday · 25/09/2018 09:07

£5k but valued at about £16k

kezzy13 · 25/09/2018 09:08

£800 10 years ago sadly I can't wear it anymore as I've put on a load of weight (and we're getting divorced but I'd still wear it on the other hand if I could). Doubt it's worth much really though as it was bought from Argos! Hmm

PiggyPlumPie · 25/09/2018 09:13

£80 20 years ago. I still love it!

billysboy · 25/09/2018 09:18

I, was always told by a diamond dealer in Hatton Garden that enagement rings and diamonds are a bit like a marketing campaign Some expensive ones look cheap and some expensive ones look a million dollars

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 25/09/2018 09:21

I don't know, I've never asked but I don't think it was a lot. I do love it though and it is special to me.

inlectorecumbit · 25/09/2018 09:22

£500 ( 2 and a twist).That was in 1982 Grin

RockyisMYRhino · 25/09/2018 09:26

Think mine was about £100. My engagement, wedding and eternity rings tell the story of how we grew up together (and could afford to spend more) as each was more expensive than the last lol. Altogether they are worth about £1850!!!

keepingbees · 25/09/2018 09:30

£350 second hand. Platinum and princess cut diamond. It was what DH could afford after selling his old car. I wanted platinum so I didn't have to worry about re coating it, so second was the only option really but to be honest I probably would have chosen second hand anyway.
It needs resizing now and it will cost more than a third of what we paid for the ring, so it's currently sat in my jewellery box and I'm wearing a cheap silver cz one.

MrsICantSayMyName · 25/09/2018 09:32

All this grands and grands on a ring is insane, mine was a surprise so no idea but it has three diamonds and a twisty design.

Madmarchpear · 25/09/2018 09:32

£0. I'm not keen on layered rings so I had a massive telly instead. Chavtastic!

TheMythicalChicken · 25/09/2018 09:33

I want to see pics too!

Hideandgo · 25/09/2018 09:35

What are you all planning to do with yours? I’m planning to offer it to my kids when any of them want to get married but I don’t want either them to feel like they are obliged or if it’s one of the boys, their partner to feel short changed. I do want to pass it on as something usable, not just something to sit in a box.

PurpleDaisies · 25/09/2018 09:39

£1.2k. I don’t like large, ostentatious stones. It’s lovely and simple.

fantasmasgoria1 · 25/09/2018 09:40

I have two. I have a temporary one I wear that was bought until one that was more suitable was found! I’m not sure how much but I only wear silver so probably not as expensive as platinum or gold! It’s a beautiful ring and I actually wear both!

happymummy12345 · 25/09/2018 10:21

All 3 of mine are heirlooms from my family. My wedding ring was my great nans, probably cost about £20-£30 all those years ago. My eternity ring was my nans, cost about £300 again years ago. My engagement ring was my mums, not sure exactly how much it was, I think probably around £300 as well, in 1991.
I would never want someone to spend loads on such things anyway. I'm not like that.

pinkhorse · 25/09/2018 10:22

Mine was £1.5k. I didn't think that was an excessive price.
