How much was your engagement ring?

Feeling nosey! I was on another thread where the OP had £600 to spend on an engagement ring and the first comment was how it was a lot of money and was she sure she wanted to spend that much.

Mine was £650 almost 30 years ago. We chose it together, it's yellow gold with an oval ruby surrounded by small diamonds. It's very much of its time, but I loved it then & I love it now.

FoodGloriousFud · 24/09/2018 22:54

@Tomboytown Oh no, I'd be heartbroken. Had you had it long?

Less than £40 (cubic zirconia). Means I don't stress out over losing it although it obviously now has sentimental value and I'm not really a diamond person. I'm pretty sure my wedding ring was around the same price too.

itbemay · 24/09/2018 22:59

Same DHSmile

New ring set for special anniversary.

One of my friends has a £50k ring!! It's beaut but it would scare me wearing it!

Branleuse · 24/09/2018 23:00

I think it was about £100. I am worth it though ;)

Danteinferno · 24/09/2018 23:01

Mine was my grandmothers soninlov d it for sentimental reasons. She insisted we had it insured when she gave it to my DH ... we finally got round to it recently and it’s valued figure over 10k

heattreated · 24/09/2018 23:01

£2.5k but i chose one at £990. wish i'd gone for the £2.5k with larger stone as the one i have now looks miniature on my finger now i've got heavier. sigh!

bellsbuss · 24/09/2018 23:02

My first was £800 20 years ago but we've recently changed it and it cost £8300 , a lot of money I know but our circumstances have changed a lot.

Wifelife · 24/09/2018 23:02

£2500 but it’s valued at 3K - not sure how that all works, large very pale barely pink emerald cut sapphire, diamonds either side white gold band and 14 stone diamond band wedding ring, we only paid £500 for the wedding band to be made as I already had the stones from a late relative but would have cost 4 times that if bought new so very lucky - love them both DH designed the engagement ring with the jeweller and we have the original drawing framed 💕

WaitingForEgg · 24/09/2018 23:02

About £3000. It’s perfect

Longdistance · 24/09/2018 23:02

It paid just over £2k when we bought it in Antigua. Got it valued in the Uk, around the £4K mark.

MakeAWhish · 24/09/2018 23:03

@DramaAlpaca you've described my dream ring! OH knows when the time comes I want a yellow gold ring with an oval ruby surrounded by small diamonds. My engagement ring from my ex husband was a 1 carat marquise cut diamond ring on a platinum band. It was about £4K and flashy. I have no desire for that anymore. A few hundred quid will do.

Daftapath · 24/09/2018 23:03

I think about 5k but it was twenty years ago so difficult to remember. I love it still but sadly it is now in my jewellery box as I am in the middle of a divorce.

I miss my bling ... the only thing I do miss!

DigitalGhost · 24/09/2018 23:03

Over £2000 & I never wear it due to fear of losing it. Luckily my wedding ring was less than a quarter of that so I don't ever take it off!

Didsomeonesaybunny · 24/09/2018 23:05

My first was around £3k a halo affair and the second was extortionately expensive £20k but if I’m honest I preferred the first but maybe that’s because my first boyfriend was a lot bloody nicer!

icebearforpresident · 24/09/2018 23:05

Can’t remember exactly but somewhere in the £500-£650 region. It’s a thin band with a small diamond, not much to look at but it’s very me, I’m not a big blingy jewellery person. I had my wedding ring made (the band on my engagement ring is shapped but the jewellers didn’t do a wedding ring to fit) and that was about £400.

RocketPockets · 24/09/2018 23:06

£1200 palladium, single diamond, flower cut I think 🤷‍♀️ I love it, it's perfect for me!

justchangingagain · 24/09/2018 23:06

Some where around £2200, I had narrowed it down to 3, a cheaper one, a mid priced one and expensive one. DH chose it. It was a waste of money really as I've never worn either ring, not seen them in years.

CarriesNecklace · 24/09/2018 23:07

@FoodGloriousFud it is three stones, the central slightly larger than the two on either side. I can’t actually remember if it is white gold or platinum Blush. The stones are apparently of a really high colour and clarity. I think the weight is about 2.7ct. I don’t actually know how much it cost but have deduced apprx value from things he has said over the years (engaged approx 8 years ago).

Tomboytown · 24/09/2018 23:08

10 years- It’s worse- my husband died- it might still turn up- but we’ve been looking for 5 months

SleightOfMind · 24/09/2018 23:10

I haven’t got an engagement ring but my wedding ring was a fiver from the little tray on the Monsoon counter.
