How much was your engagement ring?

Feeling nosey! I was on another thread where the OP had £600 to spend on an engagement ring and the first comment was how it was a lot of money and was she sure she wanted to spend that much.

Collectively my rings are worth 5k i wear two engagement rings an eternity ring and obviously my wedding ring

I'm shocked that so many of you know how much it cost?! Did you ask?
No, why would I need to ask? I could read the prices just as well as he could when we went to buy it.

Find it a bit gross what people know how much they cost. I don't know and don't want to!
What an odd thing to post. If you want to keep your money separate and have gifts 'bestowed upon you', rathe than choosing something you will love yourself, then that's fine. Your choice, but to say couples who have shopped together - for, what, after all is going to be something worn by the recipient of this 'gift' for the next 70 years - is "gross" is just ridiculous.

NewLevelsofTiredness It is only a few who seem to feel it is necessary to spend ridiculous amounts on a piece of jewellery. If you read through the thread, there are many replies from people who spnt very little really.

What are you all planning to do with yours? I’m planning to offer it to my kids when any of them want to get married but I don’t want either them to feel like they are obliged or if it’s one of the boys, their partner to feel short changed. I do want to pass it on as something usable, not just something to sit in a box

Good points Back. DH doesn't shop and I'm the harder negotiator. I shopped for it, chose it, negotiated, and he paid. 30 years on ........
