Are these shoes acceptable for high school?

Hi,

Dd starts high school next week and I really don't have a clue what shoes to get her!

She doesn't have friends yet (struggles socially) so can't compare.

We were in Clarks earlier and I was asking the assistant who looked very young, what she thought of these shoes she'd picked out and she said that some girls would wear them, but most will still try and get away with trainers and Vans. The way she said it suggested that "some girls wear them" actually meant 'the girls who get teased wear them'.

My DD already stands out as being quite different, so just want to make sure I'm not making her stand out more. I know that sounds awful, but I'm sure some of you will understand.

TIA

It really depends on what the school allows but when my dd started high school they all wore brogues.
She wouldn’t be allowed trainers or Vans at her school but other schools might be ok with it

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 31/08/2018 16:35

How can we know without seeing them? Confused

Atthebottomofthesea · 31/08/2018 16:36

My dd has brogues. The uniform policy is quite strict and trainers etc aren't allowed.

She needs to be wearing appropriate school footwear as part of the school uniform. DSS would be sent home from school with a letter if we let him wear trainers to school even if they were black! He just wears standard black school shoes, he gets through them so quickly (no idea what he does with them Grin)

Sorry! My phone keeps freezing!

Our high school does not allow trainers.

SavoyCabbage · 31/08/2018 16:40

All the girls at my dd's school wear brogues or ballet flat style shoes,

My dd wears Clarks Hamble Oaks.

RedSkyLastNight · 31/08/2018 16:41

DC's school wouldn't allow trainers or Vans (and they would be pulled up if wearing them). Most of the girls wear brogues- a lot of the Y7 girls last year wore Clarks brogues!

Does your school's uniform policy not specify what types of footwear are acceptable?

Can't think many school would allow trainers or Vans, tbh.

hazeyjane · 31/08/2018 16:44

My dad wear DrMarten shoes - one Mary Jane's the other lace ups. They are hard wearing, comfortable and look good.

Kids that wear Vans etc have had them confiscated and the school have a stock of pretty awful shoes they 'replace' them with!

LoniceraJaponica · 31/08/2018 16:44

DD wore brogues. The girls wore brogues or ballet flats. They weren't allowed to wear anything with a logo or anything that didn't look like leather, and definitely no trainers or boots.

What guidance is there on the school website?

sexnotgender · 31/08/2018 16:45

They’re lovely. DD is 14 and wearing doc marten brogues.

Pieceofpurplev · 31/08/2018 16:45

Most of the girls in my school wear brogues. Lots of them patent brogues. Vans and trainers will be sent home

LoniceraJaponica · 31/08/2018 16:45

Cross posted. They look perfect.

loveisland · 31/08/2018 16:46

They look awful!

downinthejunglee · 31/08/2018 16:48

Sorry OP, they don't look great. However school uniforms aren't supposed to be fashionable.

dementedpixie · 31/08/2018 16:49

Dd also wears brogues. They are from schuh

Sorry, they’re awful!

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 31/08/2018 16:49

Those ones from schuh are much better

PhilomenaButterfly · 31/08/2018 16:50

They'd be fine for the school DD would like to get into next year. I think their policy is sensible black leather shoes.

LoniceraJaponica · 31/08/2018 16:50

What is so awful about them? Hmm

School isn't meant to be a fashion parade. That is exactly what DD wore and so did several of her friends. Ballet flats won't be as practical in bad weather.

Loopylou6 · 31/08/2018 16:53

My dd wears kickers, I'm not really sure about the shoes you have op, but my dd is very fashion conscious, so I'll show her the picture when she gets home from shopping in liverpool Hmm if you like?

InterstellarSleepingElla · 31/08/2018 16:57

They look very much like the shoes lot of the girls at my eldest child's school wear (it is an all girls school and they have a very strict uniform policy though).

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 31/08/2018 16:57

Brogues for dd here as well. Last year she had patent ones from start rite and his year she has dr marten ones. Onmy because I’m hoping that they will Last and wear a lot better.
