Inspired by a thread about hygiene - carpets in kitchens and toilets, I thought it could be interesting to recall some of the diabolical tat from the past.

Why are you posting pictures of my past all over the Internet???

I still think these are kind of genius. Although ours just ended up being used as a cupboard with interesting door configurations.

My crockery in the early 70s....

Look at the processing power on that! You can make the text different colours if you’re really clever

I had a knitted bikini in about 1982 when I was 6. I was rather too compliant as a child

We had on of these in our bar room when I was younger. I'd love one now but I've no place to put it!

My engagement present was a complete set of Eternal Beau crockery - I will point out I no longer have it, although dh is even less impressed with the Cath Kidston plates we have that I found in a charity shop; they are brilliant at hiding bits that didn't wash up properly 🤢
I do however have a very fine macrame plant holder hanging from my curtain pole that I made myself - sorry not sorry 😂

Growing up in the 70s and 80s we'd holiday in Butlins every year. Our entire house was full of Butlins branded stuff that my gran had nicked!

Particularly the bathroom set which was a reversible pink/mauve toilet mat thing, bath mat and towels emblazoned with Butlins. We also had a full Butlins cutlery set!

And for years I didn't realise that normal people bought salad cream, vinegar and tomato ketchup in bottles. I thought they came in sachets.

Aww my parents are both dead now but I remember growing up with most of the stuff pictured ( my kids watch the back in time series about the 70s and 80s with horror ) all happy memories for me.

We had one of these. An ashtray on a stand!

I got one of these for my 21st birthday as I'd just got my first house!
I can't believe they still sell them. It was only ever used once, after my mum explained what to do with it that was!

60s and 70s crockery flies out of the door at the charity shop where I volunteer. It's become trendy again.

Eternal Beau - not so much.

I have my Mum & Dads Hostess Trolley, it lives in the garage and sometimes comes out at Christmas! To go with the ashtray I give you the table lighter - height of sophistication!

That drinks trolley with the pineapples is ACE!

torn I resent your disdain for the teasmade. I’ve used one for 5 years and I love it - you can always set the alarm for Radio 4 as well and have a hot brew and the farmers forcast. I don’t share the tea though.

I’m 31. Maybe they’re easier to love if you missed them the first time round?

If your dad was into his DIY, you would most surely have had a coffee table with a tiled top? Clearly this is the shop bought version

And we have a pair of those same red kickers [oops]

You are all bringing back memories for me. I got married in 1972 and had so many of these things then. Fortunately I have updated my house over the years.

@Jamforlunch I always wanted this set, told DP's it was what I'd have in my own house Sooo glad they didn't slowly buy a few bits to present me with, when I moved out.

How did I ever think that Eternal Beau was nice?

As a child it was my aim to get a teasmaid when I was older, along with the drinks globe that would sit proudly in my window for all to see. I used to walk past a house that had one in their window and I thought they must be very clever people.

I have a table with a tiled top, I love it. It has been in the family for decades. I can see it being passed down to my DS.
