Inspired by a thread about hygiene - carpets in kitchens and toilets, I thought it could be interesting to recall some of the diabolical tat from the past.

Woody was my favourite! Blush

HelenaDove · 15/08/2018 02:53

i had one of those Top of the Pops albums in the early 80s. Terrible cover versions especially their version of Princes Lets Go Crazy.

TornFromTheInside · 15/08/2018 02:53

and no serious young lad about town went without a lovely pair of these (which I had) Kickers

And if you had a TV in a cabinet, you were posh. Genius a TV with doors on the front. Pure genius. Once those doors were closed, there was no way you'd ever know there was a TV inside that big square box in the corner of the room was there?

And don't get me started on these things.
3 hours to set it up to make two tiny cups of tea in the morning.
A boiling pot of hot water right next to your head in bed. What could possibly go wrong there?
If I want a nice pleasant start to the day, I'll set the alarm for Radio 4 thanks.

I used to visit a relative who had the TV in a box thing. I was only about 5. I remember being so excited at being allowed to open and close the doors, as appropriate. Grin

Your mother's drinks trolley looks very similar to something I saw in an interiors magazine just the other day. She should have held onto that...

TornFromTheInside · 15/08/2018 03:17

My mum would go mad if I dared open the doors. We couldn't watch telly half the time because she wanted to show off that it had doors! (Seriously)

Crocheted granny squares every where.

She couldn't keep hold of something like that. Not enough room in the coffin!

I never had a crocheted granny!

""And talk about unPC sexist record covers! There was always some scantily dressed, pouting 'babe' on the front. What that had to do with chart music,I don't know.....""

Top of the Pops, Dancers, Legs and Co!

In the Church that I'm involved with. We still use a trolley similar to the one in the picture. It's a lot easier than carrying trays of hot tea.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 15/08/2018 04:28

I want that drinks trolley, it's amazing!

3luckystars · 15/08/2018 04:31

You are mistaken about the drinks trolley. They are lovely and totally in.

My parents had one of these. Yes, it’s a drinks cabinet. My mum’s Shire horse ceramic collection sat on the top

We had a house full of these beauties.

Birdsgottafly · 15/08/2018 05:43

Sidge, they were in fashion this year, everyone was selling them and people must have been buying them, because they didn't go into the sale stuff.

Bluntness100 · 15/08/2018 05:44

These made me laugh 🤣

I wonder what people will post about us in 40 years.

I'm guessing big fuck off tvs stuck to the wall and cheap laminate flooring will be well up there.

bushtailadventures · 15/08/2018 06:13

My gran had one of these, but it was bigger (my grandad built extensions to it!) It had a well stocked drinks cabinet full of things no one ever drank. My gran kept her ornaments in the other compartments, including her shire horses, and coloured glass fish etc. I wish I had one now, tbh, could hide a lot of crap in it Smile

Omg bushtail, that was my df's pride and joy! His was G-Plan don't y'know and we weren't allowed to touch it ever.

iklboo · 15/08/2018 07:03

My nan knitted me a bikini in the 70s and was most displeased I wouldn't wear it.

Jamforlunch · 15/08/2018 08:03

Eternal beau crockery anyone?

PanPanPanPing · 15/08/2018 08:15

Oh god. The Bay City Rollers! Back in the day my, then, boyfriend's younger brother had been discharged from hospital following an operation. So boyfriend decided we were going to take him to Bailey's in Watford to see TBCR live, as a recovery 'treat' Grin
