Thank you to the lovely poster who started a thread attempting to further embarrass me. Sadly, it was deleted. So here I am.. AMA!

OP posts:

We call them Cow Biscuits in my family too <fist bump>

CormorantStrikesBack · 23/03/2024 17:26

Never heard /seen wrestlers night before, love it.

i do like a good chester drawers.

some snotty sales assistant sniggered at me last week because I pronounce Bancha incorrectly when ordering some Farrow and Ball paint. She quite rudely told me “it’s ban-cha” after I said “ban-ka. I was tempted to tell her I was nipping to the cafe next door afterwards for a mo-cha 😂

Careforcarers · 23/03/2024 17:26

Do you leave your washing out to get darked on or do you bring it in?

Any cake left? 🎂

Mishearing phrases like this is so common there’s a word for it : Mondegreen

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondegreen

Brilliant, i did not know this so thanks for the link!

As Peter Kay might say "Just let me staple the vicar..." 😆

ItsVeryHyacinthBucket · 23/03/2024 17:27

If only you had two of every appliance in your kitchen, and ten cars, you’d have been fine.

RichardsGear · 23/03/2024 17:28

CharlotteBog · 23/03/2024 16:39

Pilates. But for the sake of this thread, I’m going to spell it Plaites

Or pronounce it pilots as I did for years.

"I'm taking a rest bite from pilots" works well I think.
You're a good sport OP

I did as well! Had only read the word and never heard it spoken, and I think I was thinking of Pontius Pilate. I bet he was actually Pontius Pil-ah-tee and all my teachers etc were wrong 😆.

devildeepbluesea · 23/03/2024 17:29

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/03/2024 16:37

I assumed it was a cute way to say it, maybe a family thing. Disappointed it's a mistake. You could have styled it out OP.

Oh she definitely has!

FrancisSeaton · 23/03/2024 17:30

Please don't mock the OP anymore
She's being used as an escape goat

storminabuttercup · 23/03/2024 17:31

I was well into my 30's when I found out it was respite!
I thought it was like a small bit of rest (hence bite)
People can be properly twattish

AutumnCrow · 23/03/2024 17:31

SabreIsMyFave · 23/03/2024 17:09

Also, fookey nell! Someone started a thread to further embarrass you? WTAF?WHY? Sad

There were two of them, at one point.

moofolk · 23/03/2024 17:33

Tbf rest-bite makes loads of sense. Like a like snack of rest, you're never sated.

I'm going to always hear it as this now. I love it. Thanks OP!

saraclara · 23/03/2024 17:35

I'm a bit of a SPAG pedant (though not perfect myself) when it comes to professional writing. But correcting people on the internet is usually* just plain rude, especially (and I've seen it here more than once) when people correct someone who's posting about something that's distressing or worrying them. I mean, who does that?

*If you want to spare someone the embarrassment of continuing to use the wrong term or spelling, there are kind and more subtle ways to do it, of course

Citrusandginger · 23/03/2024 17:35

OP it's genius. I love the idea of rest-bite. Sit down, have a rest, a bite and a cuppa. Perfect.

Style it out and ignore the twats.

Saucery · 23/03/2024 17:35

It certainly lit the blue touchpaper for some pedants. I think they should be made to read Riddley Walker and turn in a 4,000 word essay on it to prove they’ve learned something about how marvellously shapeshifting language can be.

Saucery · 23/03/2024 17:36

Yep. Like just continue to spell it correctly yourself.

saraclara · 23/03/2024 17:38

Rest-bite is an incredibly common error, along with Chester-draws. And it's really easy to see why.

I do have a bit of a smile at some ads on Facebook market place, where these kinds of errors are rife. But I don't think less of the people who make them.

Oh yes, I completely agree. I honestly do not mind being corrected.. but a thread? Also, I absolutely support the OP’s right to freely express their views. What surprises me is that I’ve re-platformed this topic after it was deleted and the OP’s have not joined us.

OP posts:
ThePartyPlanner · 23/03/2024 17:49

Good on you OP. That poster is a dick for doing that to you.

A while ago, I posted about something very difficult that I’d been through, on another persons thread who was going through similar. A reasonably well know poster commented on my post, only to correct a grammar mistake I’d made. When I said it was unnecessary given the subject of the thread, she continued to lecture. Then another couple of posters joined in with her.
None of them posted anything in support of the OP or acknowledged the awful situation both of us had gone through. It was really nasty. Not long after, I started to notice one of them was contradicting me on every post I wrote on other threads. Weirdo!

I deleted my account and made a new one, but I like your way of dealing with these twats much better.

How long do you expect your fame to last? Do you think you'll be able to get on reality tv off the back of it?

MummaMummaJumma · 23/03/2024 18:02

Oh that’s awful @ThePartyPlanner how sad of that poster to do that. Honestly, I think
the best way to deal with someone who is trying to humiliate me, is to own my mistake and then bat their intentions back to them. Once I’ve put my hands up, there’s nothing left for them to take the piss out of. Then they just look a bit silly.

Thanks for sharing my luv. ALL spelling/grammar mistakes are welcome here!

Pontius Pil-ah-tee 😂

My next step is to write a book titled “in hindsight it was not rest-bite”. Then I’ll tour for a bit and probably retire early.

OP posts:
Fellatfirsthurdle · 23/03/2024 18:06

I see this spelling all the time. How sad that someone started a thread about it. How empty their life must be. Clearly not in any need for respite themselves if they have that much time on their hands!

sheila47 · 23/03/2024 18:08

I would like to eat at your Rest-bite Cafe.
And hope the Menu includes a starter of Porn Cocktail and some Deserts for afters.
You have made my day turning a potential minus into an enjoyable plus.
