NC for this. I know MN as a whole has views on relationships with large age gaps so thought people might be interested. Or just curious.

@Gerontophile He's actually younger (slightly) than an ex of mine.
I'm older than you, however.

I'm still in contact with my ex who is very sharp mentally, cultured, educated etc but I'd never fancy him.

KnitWittedNan · 25/01/2024 16:35

Thanks for answering. Good for you op, it sounds like you're both happy with the arrangement so why not.

janeintheframe · 25/01/2024 16:37

Harrison ford is now 81. I think he’s aged very well, but personally I’d not. Not to start a relationship with him, but fine if you’d been together decades.

I do wonder what the responses would be if the genders were reversed and it was a 51 year old man and an 81 year old woman.

@housethatbuiltme That's interesting, I think I get where you're coming from. To me, there's a much bigger difference in every way between me and someone 10 years younger than me and someone 30 years older.

@EggyBreadBrekkie @janeintheframe and I'm not 51...so similar age gap.

EggyBreadBrekkie · 25/01/2024 16:30

errr....you must have led a sheltered life.

'Floats your boat' is common parlance.

Not float your boat.

Darling - made you sound patronising.

MeOldBamboo · 25/01/2024 16:40

I’m so glad of your thread OP. I am 50 and the chap I’m seeing is 78, though also looks and acts 10 years younger. I figure I’d rather have 5 years of happiness than 30 years of nothingness.
Glad to hear things are in good working order - I haven’t got that far yet.
What do you envisage your future together looking like or are you happy to keep it this casual?

Gerontophile · 25/01/2024 16:41

@janeintheframe That would be a VERY interesting AMA.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 25/01/2024 16:44

I think people only have any negative thoughts towards age gap couples when there are big differences of power/life experiences - and there doesn't seem to be any here.

Do you have children? If so, what are their thoughts?

sleepysleepytired · 25/01/2024 16:45

@janeintheframe I see what you mean. Well kept for a man in his 80s but still old and frail looking.

Tinaforshort · 25/01/2024 16:45

Yes if a man came on and said I’m 51 and sleeping with an 81 year old woman, and her kids are my age, I’m really not sure the responses would be good on you.

I don't imagine it will get much more 'serious' than this. We haven't talked about living together and I for one am happy with that. I like my life the way it is, but I like having him in it - like you, I think short(er)-term happiness is worth having. I wish you and your chap the best too.

No, I don't, so maybe that makes it easier for me to be in the relationship.

Are you in love POP?
Or is this more a FWB set up?

It's hard to understand the seriousness of your relationship.

Gerontophile · 25/01/2024 16:49

@aperolspritzbasicbitch No, I don't have children.

Love your username!

Sorry to focus on the bedroom side of things but does he get an erection at all without viagra?

'As long as you're happy then you crack on, it's nobody else's business really'
You replied 'I think the same' to this comment, yet started a thread asking people to question you? 🥴

Exactly.

EggyBreadBrekkie · 25/01/2024 16:46

I do not need to lighten up and I have definitely not lead a sheltered life Darling.

It just sounds silly and I read it in the voice of Edwina in Ab Fab😁

Is this a friendship with an older man and you happen to throw in some sex?

You call him your 'lover'. That's a pretty provocative title and very attention-seeking.

Is sex the most important thing or does it come bottom of the list?

Fantastic!

Edwina is fab!

eatdrinkandbemerry · 25/01/2024 16:53

Do you still
Manage to have an active sex life ?
I know that's a really personal question but I'm very unlikely to be able to ask anyone in person and my partner and I are knocking on so want to know if he's still able 😂

MassiveIrritant · 25/01/2024 15:51

I wouldn't fancy an elderly man with saggy man boobs, a belly , saggy bum, saggy balls, varicose veins, grey pubes.

This describes my DH, he is late 50s😂

Most men over 45 then hehe
