Off the back of another thread I thought I would put it up. So as the title says...I live in a tiny home! Ask me anything...

@Marmunia1975 you would be surprised what you don't really need and what you can live without to be honest. I know it's not for everyone though.

This is the floor plan of a one bed for sale nearish to me. I know there’s a conservatory adding space but I cannot see how this is 500+ and yours is less than 400 but you’re getting so many more useable rooms?

I live in a tiny home...ask me anything
tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 21:02

@JonHammIsMyJamm it's different layouts and different sized rooms
the bedrooms in my house are 1.9m x 2.3m give or take.
The shower room is 1.2m x 2m
We have very small rooms.

I’m sure you’re right. It’s your house and I’m (clearly) no architect Smile.

carnivalisover · 28/04/2020 21:16

This is my central London flat. It is about 490sq ft. No outside space. 2 kids (girl & boy). When they got older we separated off the front part of the living room with an ikea kallax and had a good quality sofa bed and a small fold down wall table - we parents slept there but with the bed up & table down it was a space for homework. Older kid went to uni & we felt like we had loads of space!

Oooh @carnivalisover that looks like nice size! I like that bedroom 1 has an en-suite! What a bonus!

I've just had a Google. They look really cute and tiny! Having the outside space must really help when the weather's good

Yes, a luxury. And somewhere to stand a heated clothes airer out of the way. Maybe you can squeeze one in when you do your extension!

Fishcakey · 29/04/2020 07:50

@tinyhouseliving You think my reply was rude? Are you new lol?
No my point being what is so unusual about the size of house? Why do we need an AMA? It's pretty normal!

LaureBerthaud · 29/04/2020 08:35

@Fishcakey

We don't need an AMA about anything but people are clearly interested in OP's thread and are having a chat about it. If it's bothering you press the hide button.

Toomboom · 29/04/2020 08:47

That's bigger than the very small 2 bed house that I live in! I have 2 smallish bedrooms, one small living room, small bathroom and a kitchen. Very small garden. That is is, no extra space.

LaureBerthaud · 29/04/2020 08:55

I live in a cardboard box by the M25 with my 5 kids and Irish wolfhounds.

tinyhouseliving · 29/04/2020 09:16

@Fishcakey the house is under half the size of an average U.K. house so by most standards I would say it's small.

@Toomboom awah that sounds lovely! What kind of floor plan do you have? How do you find it storing things? Is it just you or do you have a family living with you?

OP posts:
CanICelebrate · 29/04/2020 09:36

@tinyhouseliving thank you for your advice! Marie Kondo is now my hero and we have cleared out 15 bin bags in 2 days! Unfortunately we are storing said bags in the garage until lockdown in over 😂

tinyhouseliving · 29/04/2020 09:44

@CanICelebrate wow!! Great work!

OP posts:
Pasghetti · 29/04/2020 11:23

I do love the tiny house thing but I hoard so much shite 😂 Also during lockdown it's nice having a bit of space on wet days.

tinyhouseliving · 29/04/2020 11:43

@Pasghetti (I love the name btw) I will admit wet days are a bit harder! But before the Coronavirus we had the option of the usual places like soft play, swimming, visiting family etc.

We have a big house and garden which my DH and DD love, but I long for a very small house and few possessions. I really hate cleaning this house. I want to buy a VW camper van so I can go away for weekends and indulge my tiny house fantasy. Your home sounds lovely OP

Thehollyandtheirony · 29/04/2020 12:12

What size bed do you have?

tinyhouseliving · 29/04/2020 12:28

@Thehollyandtheirony we have a small double.

OP posts:
Fishcakey · 29/04/2020 12:33

@LaureBertbaud of course we don't need it. I just find it a bit insulting when half the country live in small houses. I don't see anything interesting or unusual about not having any space, it's just a crap fact of life that I can't afford a big house! Maybe someone could post 'I have a huge mansion' and I could ask what's that like! Grin

tinyhouseliving · 29/04/2020 12:51

@Fishcakey if you read the thread I based it off another thread that spoke about "small house living" my house is half the size of an average U.K. house. It's under 400sq ft...there's no two ways about the fact that it is very small. I'm sorry you find that insulting...i didn't intend on insulting anyone. I thought ppl might find it interesting as it's quite known that there is a small house movement at the moment. I am a member of many small house/tiny house movement Facebook pages.

I don’t know why you’re so upset about this. The house is tiny, it’s half the size of an average new build or a small terrace, and just slightly bigger than a caravan.

Sparklfairy · 29/04/2020 12:56

Teehee. My flat is 160sq ft Shock now that's tiny!

Jesus Christ! That’s so flat it’s practically two-dimensional...
