Off the back of another thread I thought I would put it up. So as the title says...I live in a tiny home! Ask me anything...

Ragwort - I honestly don't think most people have a spare room they could just go sleep in if their partner was sick...

Bluntness100 · 28/04/2020 17:46

Are your children the same gender op? It does seem a tiny little room for them to share.

Rebelwithallthecause · 28/04/2020 17:47

Gender makes no difference when it comes to the size of a room

My boy and girl share a bedroom, being larger makes it no worse or better as they play elsewhere

Bluntness100 · 28/04/2020 17:49

Generally it’s easier for two children the same gender to share, especially as they get older, usually the prefer privacy otherwise.

HelloItsmeAgain1 · 28/04/2020 17:52

How do you get your own space and 'me time'? Any new arguments or cons despite preferring it overall?

Parkandride · 28/04/2020 17:55

Hope do you handle laundry? We don't have a tumble dryer and in winter it feels like there's clothes every bloody where drying and that's in a bigger house than yours. I'd love a utility room.

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 17:55

@Bluntness100 no I have one of each.
Normally I get lots of me time as I work part time and the dc are in school! But obviously right now it's different. But At the moment will just go to my room or sit outside in the sun whilst they play. Etc

HelloItsmeAgain1 · 28/04/2020 17:56

It looks gorgeous op. Can you all sit somewhere at once for dinner and watching tv? Where would you do any homework or work?

ElizaCrouch · 28/04/2020 17:56

Sounds lovely. Especially with the land.

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 17:57

@HelloItsmeAgain1 sorry I forgot to tag you in my reply, see the previous post.

@Parkandride yes I have a dryer that I use in bad weather. Which is great! But we also don't have LOADS of clothing! So I can wash all of the clothes in the house in 2-3 loads!

I thought you meant one of those new build overpriced match stick houses or a new build flat.

Viviennemary · 28/04/2020 18:00

Do you have a system for not keeping too much stuff.

ArthurMorgan · 28/04/2020 18:00

My house is half the size of yours Hmm

ploopsie · 28/04/2020 18:01

Did you go for anything in between moving out of the big house as it's quite an extreme difference?

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 18:02

@HelloItsmeAgain1 yes we have a two seater couch that fits me and the two dc easily, or me and dh and one dc a bit more squashed. But I have bean bag seats for the dc (one in their bedroom and one in the main room)

The table that we eat at has two chairs and two stools stacked underneath it. That's where homework is done! And the tv is mounted on the wall to the side (in the corner) of the fireplace.

OP posts:
tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 18:03

@ArthurMorgan wow that's great! How many rooms do you have and for how many ppl? How do you find it? 200sqm! You must be so organized!

OP posts:
MitziK · 28/04/2020 18:04

Much bigger than my old council flat. Better laid out and constructed, too. And you get attic space and a fuckton of land with it.

I'm glad you have a nice house. But it's not tiny.

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 18:04

@ploopsie we lived in a 3 bed Victorian terrace before the "HUGE" house (as I like to call it) 🤣

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 28/04/2020 18:05

My house is half the size of yours

That’s smaller than the size of a caravan?

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 18:05

@Viviennemary yes "one in...one out" is my general rule.

OP posts:
tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 18:07

@Arnoldthecat no it's a renovated old Irish three room cottage with very thick walls! Not thatch though.

Rebelwithallthecause · 28/04/2020 18:07

I’m surprised about people living with families of 4 in 200sq ft houses or flats.

It wouldn’t meet any kind of regulation and not be big enough for even a bedroom.
Are people all living off a cold out bed in the kitchen / living space?!

I had a Tony 1 bed flat and that was 350sq ft

Once it had a double bed a wardrobe and a sofa there wasn’t room for anything else let alone another bed or a desk

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 18:07

@ArthurMorgan I meant 200sq ft

OP posts:
tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 18:09

@Rebelwithallthecause I think some ppl are getting their sq ft and sq meters mixed up?? 🤔

OP posts:
Ragwort · 28/04/2020 18:09

Squashed, I do appreciate that and I made the point that I am fortunate to have the luxury of separate bedrooms. But this is an ‘AMA’ thread and so I felt justified in asking the question.
