Off the back of another thread I thought I would put it up. So as the title says...I live in a tiny home! Ask me anything...

@saleorbouy I hated the bills!! I hated the cleaning, I hated the upkeep, I hated that I felt like it had to be filled (and mainly with useless not necessary items!) so we opted out!!

How big was the huge house?

Sparklingbrook · 28/04/2020 14:13

How old are your DC?

LaureBerthaud · 28/04/2020 14:13

Please can we have some photos!

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 14:14

@CendrillonSings 4bed, 4 bath, 2 reception rooms, kitchen/diner, sun room and utility and another workshop/store room
Sq feet- around 3800

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 14:16

@Sparklingbrook they are 5 and 7

OP posts:
tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 14:17

@LaureBerthaud I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that as Mumsnet wouldn't be the most secure platform.

OP posts:
Blackbeans · 28/04/2020 14:17

why? ok cleaning - but, you could sod cleaning?

Sparklingbrook · 28/04/2020 14:17

So 5 and 7 now but what's the plan for when they are teenagers, will you want to move to give them more space then?

saleorbouy · 28/04/2020 14:21

What do you love most about your lifestyle change?

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 14:22

@Blackbeans well it all boiled down to mental health and a better quality of life to be honest.

OP posts:
tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 14:23

@Sparklingbrook we do plan on building a small extension as our needs change.

browneyedgirl2018 · 28/04/2020 14:26

How much did it cost, if you don't mind telling us?

Ragwort · 28/04/2020 14:28

Do you never crave a nights sleep on your own? I hate sharing a bed with my DH so we have the luxury of separate rooms. Does it bother you that if you were unwell you wouldn’t have a separate room to sleep in, what if one of you needed to self isolate?

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 14:28

@saleorbouy I love the difference in having a space that I love, the ability to spend more time doing things that are more important, I try to live as simply as possible right now and it's doing great things for us!

Branleuse · 28/04/2020 14:29

so its the kind of size of one of those mobile homes on a caravan park. I reckon its doable. I bet the fact that youve got tonnes of outside space helps though. Do you spend a lot of time outside whatever the weather?

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 14:31

@browneyedgirl2018 it cost about €100k, That's about £89k I think. We have spent €25k renovating and doing it up.

OP posts:
tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 14:33

@Ragwort no, my dh does work away at times so I get space then. Obviously self isolating would be different, we haven't needed to so it's not an issue

Sparklingbrook · 28/04/2020 14:33

As the owner of a couple of teenagers I think that's wise OP, especially when they want friends round etc, and just to get away from their sibling for a bit. Plus they have a lot of belongings.

But with them being young at the moment it sounds idyllic.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 28/04/2020 14:40

That is dinky, IMO. Especially for a 2 bed. It’s around 20% smaller than the new build 1 bed houses near me, so it must be wee.

Etinox · 28/04/2020 14:44

Sounds lovely. I love camping because it’s pared down living with lots of outside space. BTW This is the advert I’m seeing on this thread.

I live in a tiny home...ask me anything
tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 14:47

@JonHammIsMyJamm my dh has actually just reminded me that I used external dimensions and that it has very thick walls so it's probably more about 380ish sq ft 🙈

We had to cut a bit out of the dc's bunk bed frame to fit it against the end wall of the bedroom. My dh has to build in our bed against the back wall too!! 🤣

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 14:48

@Etinox 🤣🤣🤣 too funny!!

CanICelebrate · 28/04/2020 14:49

@tinyhouseliving my house is bigger than yours but my family is bigger too so we are finding that we are having storage issues! What advice would you give on clever storage (papers/ shoes/ coats/ books etc) and also advice on having a clear out - we try to clear stuff out but the house is full of the dc’s stuff!

Musmerian · 28/04/2020 14:51

I live in a typical mid Terrace Victorian house. Not that small but we moved out of London and could have bought a mansion round here. I just don’t like really big houses.
