Panda 100% Bamboo Bedding Set review: “It’s the softest bedding we’ve ever slept on”

After four months of hot nights, regular washes, two children and two little white dogs, I’ve decided whether Panda’s 100% Bamboo Bedding Set is worth its premium price.

What Mumsnet users say

My verdict

My husband and I have slept on the Panda 100% Bamboo Bedding Set for four months and, honestly, it’s the softest bedding we’ve ever owned. That includes the Tielle Smooth & Silky 600 Thread Count Bedlinen Set we previously loved, which is no small claim. The Panda set felt cool, light and silky from the first night, then became softer and less slippery with every wash.

It has also coped with actual family life. Ours is the pure white super king set, a brave choice in a house with two children and two little white dogs who view our bed as communal property. After at least eight washes, it’s still white. There’s no pilling, fading, shrinkage, loose stitching or evidence of claws.

Opening the Panda 100% bedding set from its packaging box

The packaging is thoughtful and well branded

The one annoyance is the fitted sheet. Our mattress and topper create a combined depth of around 35.5cm, while Panda’s fitted sheet has a 32cm skirt. It fits neatly when I put it on, but my side sometimes works loose overnight. My husband’s doesn’t, which supports his theory that the problem is less likely the sheet and more the fact that I sleep like a fish trying to get back into the sea. A deeper option or elasticated corner straps would sort it.

How I’ve tested the Panda 100% Bamboo Bedding Set

My husband and I have used the pure white super king set every night for four months in our dormer bedroom. For most of that time the room has been very warm, including during the UK’s heatwaves, so one might say that the bedding’s cooling claims have had a real workout. More recently, temperatures have dipped enough to see whether it feels cold when the weather turns.

The included storage bag is a lovely design addition - and a useful one, too

I’ve washed the set at least twice a month and dried it both outside and on a heated clothes airer. It has been tested on a 29cm-deep Silentnight UltraGel Miracoil Pillow Top Mattress with a 6.5cm Simba Cool Foam Mattress Topper, giving the fitted sheet roughly 35.5cm of depth to cover. We’ve also used the duvet cover with the Panda Cloud Duvet, which has matching loops for its internal ties.

The set was gifted for review and delivered through Panda’s PR team, so I sadly didn’t get a chance to test the standard online checkout or ordinary retail delivery process. That said, delivery was quick and well communicated. Plus, the bedding arrived in a reusable bamboo pouch with plastic-free packaging and no noticeable smell.

Panda 100% Bamboo Bedding Set: what’s included?

The super king set contains one fitted sheet, one duvet cover and two envelope-style pillowcases. Everything is made from 100% bamboo viscose in a satin weave, with bamboo buttons on the duvet cover. Panda lists five colours available to choose from; I tested pure white, though I rather like the look of the urban grey option, too!

The buttons are well made, secure and not flimsy at all

The bedding has felt silky, cool and very lightweight straight out of the pouch. I did some digging and some customer reviews on Panda’s website describe the fabric as too thin, but that hasn’t been my experience. I agree that it’s light, but it doesn’t feel flimsy, and the seams, buttons, elastic and internal ties are all still secure after four months.

What is the Panda 100% Bamboo Bedding Set like to sleep on?

Soft. Ridiculously soft. It started out smooth and slightly slippery, then settled into something softer and more relaxed after a few washes. It doesn’t have the crisp feel of cotton percale or the heavier drape of hotel-style cotton sateen. Instead, it glides over the skin and feels light around the body.

The tie details is a welcomed addition that's compatible with Panda's duvets

That difference is most obvious first thing in the morning, when getting out of bed feels even less appealing than usual. This is, of course, a bit of an inconvenience when you have two primary school-aged children and a job, but very pleasant at every other time.

The storage bag is just as well made as the bedding itself

The pillowcases stay neatly in place and the fabric feels comfortable against my skin. Panda describes the bedding as hypoallergenic, too. While my husband has no issues, my own allergy symptoms have been better recently, but I have to admit - we’ve also started using an air purifier, so I’m going to avoid giving the sheets credit they may not deserve…

Does the Panda bamboo bedding keep you cool?

It has done for us. My husband usually notices the moment bedding feels too warm, yet he hasn’t complained about overheating once during testing. Given that our dormer bedroom spent much of the summer doing a decent impression of a greenhouse, that’s meaningful in the case of Panda’s bedding set.

A closer look at the label on the bedding set

The fabric feels cool when you first get into bed and never becomes heavy or clammy. When the weather cooled down, it still felt comfortable rather than chilly. Panda says the bamboo fabric is moisture-wicking and thermoregulating. While I can’t test those claims in a lab, I can share that neither of us has woken feeling too hot.

How well does Panda’s fitted sheet fit?

On a standard-depth mattress, the 32cm skirt should be generous. Admittedly, our setup isn’t standard: our Silentnight mattress is 29cm deep and the Simba topper adds another 6.5cm. The sheet therefore has more depth to cover than it was actually designed for, so really I shouldn’t be surprised if it shifts.

It goes on neatly and stays secure on my husband’s side, but I’ve had to pull my corners back into place several times. I’d recommend getting a deeper fitted-sheet option or elasticated straps for thick mattress and topper setups like ours. Then again, if you don’t use a topper, I don’t think this will be nearly as troublesome.

Due to our mattress topper, the fitted sheet doesn't quite fit - but that's our fault, not the bedding's

The duvet cover and pillowcases fit well, thankfully. The brand has applied some common sense and added hidden ties inside the cover, which attach to loops on Panda’s Cloud Duvet (and other duvets), helping to stop the filling sliding into one corner. It’s such an obvious idea that I’m now irritated that more duvet brands don’t do it. My husband and I have spent years accusing each other of stealing the duvet when the real culprit was clearly a cover full of migrating filling.

How does the Panda bamboo bedding wash?

Panda recommends washing the set at up to 30°C with an eco-friendly detergent, avoiding bleach and fabric softener. In the interests of stains, dogs and real family life, I’ve washed ours on a 40°C anti-stain cycle with Fairy non-bio pods. Yes, I know, that’s hotter than the care instructions, so I should probably say you follow Panda’s guidance if you want to play it safe.

A look at the creases in Panda's 100% bamboo bedding set

After washing, the bedding can be creased but they do soften after a while

Even with my less delicate approach, the set hasn’t shrunk, faded, pilled or lost its shape. The white has stayed lovely and white and the fabric has become softer. On a bright day it line-dries in under two hours. Draped over a heated clothes airer before bed, it’s dry by morning.

The Panda 100% bamboo bedding set drying outside on the line

On a nice day, drying the sheets takes no time at al

It does crease, though. Like, a lot. Line drying takes the worst of it out, while indoor drying leaves more obvious wrinkles. They relax once the bedding is back on the bed, but it won’t give you an immaculate hotel finish without an iron. I don’t iron bedding either way, so temporary creases I can live with.

Is the Panda 100% Bamboo Bedding Set worth the money?

£180 for the super king set (or £109 for a single)set isn’t an impulse buy, particularly when perfectly serviceable cotton bedding costs much less. It feels premium, though, and you get the fitted sheet, duvet cover and two pillowcases rather than having to build the set piece by piece.

After four months, I’d personally pay full price for it. The fabric still looks good, washes quickly and feels better than when it arrived. The fitted sheet is the only thing stopping it from being completely fuss-free, and our 35.5cm bed setup is asking more of it than Panda’s 32cm skirt promises.

A closer look at the sheets when the bed is made

Panda says its bamboo is organically grown in managed forests, its dyes are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified and the set is plastic-free, including the buttons. Bamboo viscose isn’t automatically impact-free, so I wouldn’t buy it for the green halo alone. The reusable pouch, plastic-free details and recyclable packaging are welcome, but the softness and comfort are the real reasons I’d spend the money on this one, in all honesty.

Final verdict: is this the right bedding for you?

The Panda 100% Bamboo Bedding Set has survived four months of hot weather, regular washing, children, dogs and my refusal to give up white bed linen. It’s still smooth, bright and free from damage. More importantly, it’s the softest set my husband and I have slept in, and neither of us has struggled with the heat.

It creases, and the fitted sheet can work loose if your mattress and topper are deeper than its 32cm skirt. Those are real drawbacks, but neither has made me want to take it off the bed.

If you like lightweight, silky bedding and don’t expect it to look freshly ironed without actually ironing it, this is an excellent buy.
