My verdict

If you like the smooth heavy drape of proper hotel bedding, this set delivers it. It’s expensive, but it feels like a treat every night and has held up impressively in a busy household with children, dogs and no time for ironing.

After four months of sleeping on it, I’d say it’s the closest we’ve come to recreating that “I wish I could take this home” moment we had during our stay at ERTH Abu Dhabi earlier this year. The fabric still feels new, the fit is spot on and it somehow manages to keep my perennially hot husband comfortable. The fact that it has survived a puppy who sees the duvet ties as his personal enrichment activity is a bonus.

The creasing is annoying, but only if you’re someone who irons bedding. I’m not. Life is too short and M&S sells non-iron school uniforms for a reason. That said, once it’s on the bed you stop noticing the wrinkles and you’re left with sheets that feel noticeably nicer than anything we’ve had before.

It’s definitely a splurge. But if you want the proper hotel feel every time you climb into bed and you know you’ll use it for years, the value starts to make sense. For us, it’s been a genuine upgrade to the bedtime routine and one of those things you don’t really want to go without once you’ve tried it.

The Tielle 600 thread count bedlinen set in real life

As someone who tends to go for the cheapest bedding option, this is a lovely improvement

What Mumsnet users say

Mumsnet users are huge fans of the 600 TC range from Tielle, and often compare it favourably with brands like Richard Haworth and The White Company.

How I’ve tested the Tielle 600 thread count bedlinen set

DH and I have been sleeping on the Tielle Smooth and Silky 600 thread count bedlinen set for four months now. It has been through weekly washing, two adults, two dogs, a superking bed and a husband who sleeps hot even in winter.

I’ve tested how well it fits our duvet, pillows and mattress, how breathable it feels overnight and how easy it is to put on - as well as how well it’s coped with constant washing and the occasional claw attack from our puppy.

The Tielle Smooth and Silky set in its packaging

Part of Tielle’s signature collection, this 600 tc set is luxurious

How the Tielle 600 TC set feels to sleep on

This is the part that matters most and it’s where this set shines. The fabric has that cool, smooth feel you get in a good hotel. My husband runs hot and usually complains about overheating, but even he’s admitted these sheets feel lighter and less sweaty than our old IKEA ones. They stay cool at bedtime, warm up gently and never feel clammy during the night.

The surface is soft without being slippy. It has a slight sheen, but it doesn’t cross into shiny. It’s the kind of bedding that makes you stretch out a bit longer in the morning.

So, does the Tielle Smooth and Silky 600 live up to its hotel-quality promise? Yes. After spending the most of our stay at ERTH Abu Dhabi earlier this year contemplating how we can steal the bedding - this is the closest we’ve come to that same feeling at home. Plenty of Mumsnet users also say the same, with HundredMilesAnHour describing the 600 TC range as so good it’s “almost impossible to prise [her] out of bed”. And to me, that checks out.

How well the Tielle Smooth and Silky set is made

The fabric quality is excellent, there’s no doubt about that. The stitching is neat and even, the seams feel strong and the pillowcases keep their shape.

Our nine-month-old puppy has already decided the duvet ties are a fun chew toy, though, but they’ve survived so far. The cotton hasn’t pilled and still feels new after months of washing.

The fit is one of the best things about this set - it’s deep enough for thick mattresses, it doesn’t ping off the corners and the duvet cover isn’t baggy. After the first wash everything settles into a perfect fit. And despite being an enticing chew toy for our puppy, the tie closures work well and the pillowcases sit neatly without gaping.

Smooth to touch and the tie closures make me feel very grown up

How the Tielle Smooth and Silky bedding washes

The duvet ties look smart and very grown up, but do take a little longer than poppers. The fitted sheet goes on without a fight, though, and actually stays in place - even with our 7cm mattress topper on.

Because the shrinkage is built in, the first wash tightens everything to the exact right size, which makes a big difference with a superking.

To add, it washes well. Each time I’ve found it’s stayed soft and dries at a normal speed for sateen cotton atop my heated clothes airer. The only drawback is the creasing. If you iron bedding, you’ll get a lovely smooth finish. If, however, you're like me - a person who doesn’t even iron school uniforms (I buy the non-iron on purpose for this reason), you’ll need to make peace with some creases. They don’t affect comfort, but they are noticeable.

Is the Tielle 600 thread count bedding worth the price?

It’s not cheap, that’s for sure. Even a single set starts at £248, and once you get to king or superking you’re in investment territory. If you want just white bedding that looks smart, there are far cheaper options. But if you want the feel of proper hotel sheets and you use them nightly for years to come, it begins to look more reasonable.

Mumsnet users have said the same. “[...] All of Tielle’s bedding is great. I started with their 300 thread count as a cheaper ‘tester’ and I’m very happy with it. But I ruined myself by buying their 600 count fitted sheet [...]”, shared HundredMilesAnHour

Final verdict

The Tielle Smooth and Silky 600 thread count set has been one of those rare upgrades that actually makes a noticeable difference to everyday life. It feels properly luxurious, it keeps a hot sleeper comfortable and it has survived four months of children, dogs and weekly washes without losing that freshly-made-bed feeling. Yes, it creases. Yes, it’s expensive. But once you’re in it, you stop caring about both.

If you want hotel-level bedding at home and you’re willing to invest, this set earns its place. It has quietly ruined cheaper bedding for us so if you can stretch to it, it’s a buy you’re unlikely to regret IMO.
