How we tested Bennetts Nipple Cream

Parent-tester Bethan, a mum-of-one currently breastfeeding a newborn, tested a selection of Mumsnet's top-rated nipple cream samples over a period of several months. During this time she took rigorous notes on each cream's effectiveness, ease of application, feel and value for money as well as her overall verdict on each nipple cream.

Bennetts Nipple Cream: first use

Bennetts Nipple Cream comes with instructions, which Bethan reported were 'very easy to follow' and were printed both on the box and on the tube of cream itself.

How does the cream feel to touch?

'The Bennetts Nipple Cream feels like the lightest, most 'cream-like' of all the nipple creams and balms I tested,' said Bethan.

It is definitely more of a cream than a balm texture and is a pretty thin consistency, but when rubbed in it doesn't totally disappear. It leaves the skin feeling soft.

How easy is it to apply?

'It's very easy to apply,' Bethan explained. 'It comes out of the tube very easily and isn't messy at all or sticky like some nipple balms can be. It also doesn't leave a sticky residue on hands either once it's been applied. It's so light as well that it doesn't drag the nipple when applied.'

Bennetts Nipple Cream

I would say this cream feels very moisturising. I’ve also been using it on a small patch of eczema flare-up on my arm and it’s been very soothing for that and calmed it a lot.

Does Bennetts Nipple Cream have an odour?

Although it is billed as fragrance-free, Bethan said she found the cream had 'quite a fresh scent.'

Can you feel the effects of the cream straight away?

'Yes, it's quite soothing and because it is more of a cream texture, it's light and easy to put on,' said Bethan. 'I'm not sure how much protection it offers as it rubs in so easily, but it seems to be very soothing and cooling.'

Bennetts Nipple Cream: Overall verdict

'I would definitely recommend this cream to other breastfeeding mums,' Bethan said. 'For the price and ease of application it really does feel very moisturising. If you struggle with the stickiness feeling that nipple balms can sometimes give, the Bennetts cream is a great option.'

Having only previously ever used more balm-like nipple creams, the Bennetts cream took me a little bit of time to get used to, but having used it for a while now I really rate it!
