Momcozy V2 Breast Pump review: taking hands-free pumping to the next level

Offering hands-free, speedy pumping with pain-free efficiency, the Momcozy V2 takes wearable breast pump technology to the next level. Our parent-tester Bethan found it particularly useful during several months of testing, particularly when her newborn was hospitalised and was too poorly to breastfeed directly.

How we tested

Bethan used the Momcozy V2 breast pump around four times a week over a testing period of two months. She took extensive testing notes rating the pump for ease of use, comfort, durability, discrection, practicality and value for money.

During this time she pumped exclusively for her baby when he was admitted to hospital at four weeks old and was too poorly to feed directly from her.

The pump was such a help when my little one was in hospital. I was able to pump easily while still having both hands available. It also meant I was able to keep my supply up until my baby was able to feed at the breast again.

What's included with the Momcozy V2 pump?

As well as the pump you also get spare flanges in a variety of sizes, an instruction manual and a charging lead.

How easy is the Momcozy V2 to set up?

'I found it really easy,' said Bethan. 'I actually went straight ahead and put it together without the instructions but did then get the instructions out to check I’d put it all together correctly. I had done, which shows how intuitive and easy it was to put together.

'As part of the instructions the box also had a ‘nipple measurement’ tool which was really handy to check what size flange is recommended and change if necessary.'

I found the pump really comfortable to use! On the lower settings it was totally comfortable. I didn’t need to go above level 4 really (it goes up to level 9), to get a really good output of milk.

How hands-free is the Momcozy V2?

'I found being able to pop the pump in my nursing bra so handy! It feels quite substantial within my bra so I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable being out and about with it but for use at home while running after my toddler, it has been wonderful.'

How comfortable is the Momcozy V2?

Bethan describes the pump as 'very comfortable,' adding: 'I can sit really comfortably using the pump and also move around. I don't feel tied to my chair which I have previously felt with other pumps. I also don't feel as thought I need to be leaning forward and have often used it while getting a quiet five minutes to watch TV leaning back on the sofa and it has worked great!'

How noisy is the Momcozy V2?

'The pump is quite quiet,' says Bethan. 'I would be comfortable using it in an office setting or out and about in terms of how noisy it is.'

Momcozy V2 breast pump

This pump has a very clever feature that when you’re finished pumping, it’s effectively a ‘no spill’ design when you put the pump down. You can measure the milk collected from laying it flat and then it drains when you’re ready by pulling out a little plug and pouring it out. I am very accident prone and haven’t knocked it over or spilled any milk!

Does the Momcozy V2 represent good value for money?

With an RRP of £200, the Momcozy certainly isn't cheap, but after extensively testing the pump, Bethan said: 'I think if you're looking for a pump that enables you to move around while collecting milk, I think it's worth it.'

I have also previously used a manual and can collect a similar amount of milk, but it's the ability to be up and about and hands-free that makes it worth the price in my opinion.

It's worth noting that the Momcozy is currently 20% off at Amazon.

How easy is it to clean the Momcozy V2?

'The pump is really easy to pull apart and clean. It comes apart in sections and everything is very easily popped out. Heat sterilising or using the dishwasher is not recommended, but I haven't found this a particular issue. I wash it in soapy water and then put it in my cold-water Milton sterilising tub for the required time and it's great. I also haven't found that it's faded after several washes.'

How discreet is the Momcozy V2 pump?

Although she didn't find the pump obstrusively noisy, Bethan said that on reflect she probably wouldn't use the pump at work. 'I have a very front-facing role so I would feel a little uncomfortable - it was very obvious to me that I was wearing it.'

It is very easy to transport and I probably would use the pump out and about in some situations. Perhaps in the car on journeys or around friends' houses. I wouldn't use it to just go shopping etc but others may feel happier to do that.

Overall verdict

'I wouldn't necessarily use it out and about, but for use at home while running after my toddler, it has been wonderful. I think slightly more streamlined cups would make all the difference. As I'm primarily breastfeeding and my little one is taking a bottle here or there, I'm not collecting more than 2 or 3 ounces at a time but it can collect up to 6 oz in each cup, probably more.'
