Lansinoh definitely! Use sparingly before and after every feed. Also good for baby's lips if they get a bit dry.

Our verdict
  • Ease of use: 4/5

  • Effectiveness: 5/5

  • Value for money: 5/5

The Lansinoh HPA Lanolin Nipple Cream contains the key ingredient, lanolin, which is known for its exceptional moisturising and soothing properties. Secreted naturally from sheep's skin, lanolin conditions and protects the sheep's wool. To extract lanolin for human use, sheep's wool undergoes thorough washing to remove impurities, followed by a purification process to separate the lanolin.

This purified lanolin is then used in nipple creams to effectively hydrate and soften dry, cracked nipples, providing much-needed relief and comfort between feeds. Lanolin is also commonly found in lotions, moisturising creams and lip products like the Lansinoh Lanolin Lip Balm.

When using Lansinoh HPA Lanolin Nipple Cream, I found that although I needed to rub it between my fingers for a few seconds before application, it quickly formed a protective shield over the nipple. This barrier not only promotes healing but also prevents additional irritation and chafing.

I appreciate that this nipple cream is safe for both mothers and babies, being hypoallergenic and non-toxic. Overall, Lansinoh HPA Lanolin Nipple Cream allowed me to continue my breastfeeding journey with minimal pain and discomfort.

How we tested the Lansinoh HPA Lanolin Nipple Cream

I used the Lansinoh HPA Lanolin Nipple Cream every day for three months when I was breastfeeding my newborn, applying it without fail after every feed.

For the purpose of this review and to fully assess the nipple cream’s performance, I scored it out of five in three main areas: ease of use, effectiveness and value for money.

How easy is the Lansinoh HPA Lanolin Nipple Cream to use?

The Lansinoh HPA Lanolin Nipple Cream is both thick in consistency and sticky straight out of the tube, so it needs to be warmed up between your fingers to make it easy to apply.

While it took a couple of uses to work this out, I found that a little goes a long way with this cream, so I only needed a pea-sized amount each time when applying on both nipples.

As a first-time mum, I felt reassured by the fact that this cream is safe for babies and doesn’t need to be removed before breastfeeding. It’s also hypoallergenic and approved by the British Allergy Foundation. Plus, it doesn’t smell or taste of anything, so it didn’t bother my newborn while feeding.

How effective is the Lansinoh HPA Lanolin Nipple Cream?

If I could use one word to describe this nipple cream, it would be ‘game-changing’. I suffered from sore and cracked nipples in the early days of feeding, particularly when establishing breastfeeding, so this cream made the whole experience a lot more comfortable for me.

It soothed almost instantly, healed the cracking in both nipples and helped to keep them moisturised between feeds. Even when the cracks and soreness went away, I continued to apply the Lansinoh HPA Lanolin Nipple Cream to prevent any recurring discomfort.

Is Lansinoh HPA Lanolin Nipple Cream good value for money?

Absolutely. This product was hugely helpful to me on my breastfeeding journey and is more than worth its price tag in my opinion.

While £11 for a 40ml tube might seem pricey, a tube lasts for at least a month or two, depending on how often you apply it and how much you breastfeed. You can also buy smaller 7ml or 10ml tubes to store in your changing bag or in your travel suitcase, should you need to keep it with you.
