I only know who they are due to DD watching their make up videos. They were on BBC 3s Glow Up program as a guest judge.
Apparently they were being blackmailed and so came out in a video, which is a bit shit for them.

Good for her - how terrible that she felt forced to announce it

GeordieTerf Mon 13-Jan-20 20:41:33

I really like Nikki. She’s very talented. Good luck to her. smile

Nobody should ever be put in the position of having to divulge something personal and private.

I watched her coming out video - she handled it incredibly well. I particularly liked her saying to her blackmailers "this one's for you".

I thought it was interesting that she doesn't believe in labels, that 'I am just me' - more people need to think like this and not try to compel speech or trample on rights. More Nikkies and fewer Stephanies are needed.

Cocolapew Mon 13-Jan-20 20:46:16

I wonder if she knows the blackmailers, it must have been an awful position to be put in.

UpfieldHatesWomen Mon 13-Jan-20 20:55:31

I like their attitude in terms of saying 'I'm just me', but it's the same old sexist stereotypes being trotted out about wanting to play with make-up and barbies and not wanting to wear trousers that convinced them they were really a 'girl'. Also sounds like their mother really wanted a girl and Nikki was psychologically damaged by that.

Have you posted on the wrong board OP? This is FWR.

Cocolapew Mon 13-Jan-20 21:28:16

Trans issues are discussed on this board all the time, why would I have the wrong one?

SpartacusAutisticus Mon 13-Jan-20 21:33:01

Trans stuff is generally discussed here in relation to feminism and women's rights, but there's no context in your OP that situates this thread as a feminist/women's rights issue.

NotTerfNorCis Mon 13-Jan-20 21:52:47

I'd never heard of this person, but they are obviously very into feminine stereotypes.

Doyoumind Mon 13-Jan-20 21:55:10

I don't think the thread belongs in this board either. I actually like Nikkie but it does explain the 6ft something height.

NeurotrashWarrior Mon 13-Jan-20 21:59:14

Never heard of them and fair enough.

What's annoyed me is that Kirsty blackman MP has just rt this trans poem which includes the line "we are 7 years old..."

NeurotrashWarrior Mon 13-Jan-20 22:00:17

Forgot pic

I'd never heard of this person, but they are obviously very into feminine stereotypes.

Not sure to what extent this is accurate:

Yes, granted, Nikkie does all the glam makeup and hair stuff and Instagram looks.

But: she's also a beauty icon despite really falling short of what is considered "conventionally attractive" for women: way too tall, far too big, round faced and blotchy skinned.

What I really, really like about Nikkie - despite her personal style being way too over the top for my own sense aestethics - is how upfront she has always been about what she looks like without all the gunk. Her Power of Makeup videos, in particular, expose the lies behind conventional beauty pretty spectacularly.

I've never felt that Nikkie thought "womanhood" depended on looking like an Instagram model, and have always seen her as someone who was radically blunt about what real women look like in everyday and just how far removed from reality that high glam look was - however much she might personally enjoy and financially benefit from managing to project it.

I actually really like Nikkie for this, despite lacking both the talent and the desire to achieve her looks.

Also, all trans politics aside: blackmailing people about personal matters is the hallmark of an irredemable arsehole.

HugsAreMyDrugs Mon 13-Jan-20 22:02:48

I'm honestly not trying to be harsh here but no shit sherlock...

GlitterToast Mon 13-Jan-20 22:02:57

For context, Nikki is one of the most popular make-up artists on YouTube.

I've been watching her tutorials for years, and I am very shocked by this news. I honestly had no idea.

TerribleCustomerCervix Mon 13-Jan-20 22:04:08

Good luck to her.

I’ve always had a lot of time for her, she’s clearly very talented.

Says a lot about her that she kept it private as opposed to thinking that being trans can be used in absence of an interesting and engaging personality and trying to market it.

However, with the combined followers of James Charles, Jeffrey Star and now Nikki, how many mega-influencers are “cis-women”, ie the vast majority people actually buying the products.

NeurotrashWarrior Mon 13-Jan-20 22:04:36

And that the bloody bbc has trotted out that poem that says "we are 7 years old..."

And Kirsty RT...

NeurotrashWarrior Mon 13-Jan-20 22:05:37

For context, Nikki is one of the most popular make-up artists on YouTube.

Ah ok.

HugsAreMyDrugs Mon 13-Jan-20 22:06:20

Don't get me wrong, I like her. She seems pleasant enough. But I am amazed that people are surprised by this news.

CuteOrangeElephant Mon 13-Jan-20 22:08:14

I really liked Nikki when she was on the Dutch reality TV show Wie is de mol.

Its really sad that someone tried to out her.

GlitterToast Mon 13-Jan-20 22:11:01

If you watch the full video, it's clear that Nikki's mother has, shall we say, heavily-influenced Nikki's transition. Nikki says that her mother "knew" from pregnancy that Nikki was a girl, and that when Nikki was born, was still a girl despite her biology.

Doyoumind Mon 13-Jan-20 22:11:06

Nikkie has 12.5 million subscribers so is not insignificant. The makeup style is of a certain type but Nikkie is one of the few people who really shows themself completely makeup free at the start of videos and looks completely unrecognisable by the end. Certainly a great artist.

NeurotrashWarrior Mon 13-Jan-20 22:12:41

I do feel for this person but they've just said they've were "born in the wrong body" to a huge number of young people.

And "live your life with no restrictions"- well that's a green flag to invade any space you wish.

This person seems lovely and it's a shitty thing to happen to them but we have a new dollop of blurred boundaries and ideology dressed up as science plopped into pop culture.
