Nikkietutorials comes out as trans

I only know who they are due to DD watching their make up videos. They were on BBC 3s Glow Up program as a guest judge.
Apparently they were being blackmailed and so came out in a video, which is a bit shit for them.

However, with the combined followers of James Charles, Jeffrey Star and now Nikki, how many mega-influencers are “cis-women”, ie the vast majority people actually buying the products.
I think there's a lot of sexism involved when someone born male is praised for doing something that women do every day. Those mentioned are talented make-up artists, but they somehow get bonus points for being born male, and I can't see why that should be the case. Similarly, I remember when Strictly Come Dancing's Johannes did a routine in heels. He's a fantastic dancer and no problem with him wearing heels, but the way he was fawned over for doing what the women on the show do every single week was ridiculous. It's not Nikkie's fault, but they'll no doubt be heaped with praise now simply for being born male and being a make-up artist.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 13/01/2020 22:36

I like Nikki like I like a lot of trans people. She seems like a really sweet person, and her talent with make-up is extraordinary. But liking & respecting individual people doesn't mean liking and respecting trans activism. Nikki seems to want to get on with her life, be herself & not jump on any bandwagons. People like Nikki are not the issue. Never have been. The things she asked for - acceptance, respect & to be heard - are all entirely reasonable & fair. What is really problematic for me is self-id, because for every Nikki there will be 50 blokes using trans 'rights' to perv, cheat and bully/abuse women & girls. They have entirely different motives & issues.

Doyoumind · 13/01/2020 22:36

Nikkie did train as a makeup artist, after starting the channel, which has been going for years. I couldn't come close to replicating those looks. Also, amazing English speaker. I don't really have a bad word to say despite my GC views.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 13/01/2020 22:37

Yeah I think that’s fairly likely.

It just pisses me off as there’s no arena where men are the majority of the market where being a woman is seen as anything other than at best, a bit quirky, or at worst someone who “doesn’t really know what they’re talking about.” or a sex object.

Men entering a women’s market though? OMG so brave! So creative! So many funny and catty comments calling actual women bitches!

They can fuck off with their double standards.

GlitterToast · 13/01/2020 22:52

Tbf, Nikki says that she didn't want to come out yet. She was smoked out, so I don't think she's doing this for attention.

Barracker · 13/01/2020 23:21

I feel heartsick that any mother would observe her young son playing with Barbies and liking pink, and yet conclude this was a problem and the solution was to tell him he was a girl.
A child raised this way, affirmed in the childish notion that 'girly' likes and behaviour - not my phrase, but one used in the coming out video - means a boy IS a girl, literally? That child spends his formative years with trusted adults telling him he's not a boy who likes pink, he's a girl with a wrong body. What chance does a child have to ever reconcile himself to the truth that he's actually, irrevocably, male? His memories will fight him all the way, he's never been given the opportunity to accurately perceive himself growing up as a boy, now a man - who can come to terms with who he really is.

An adult transitioner at least has a fighting chance of eventually accepting their own actual sex, having grown up with benchmarks and signposts and experience of their own sex, however much false gender associations might have blurred the reality.
But a child who has been deceived throughout childhood and who has developed their sense of self around a false identity? I don't know how or even whether there is a way back to accepting reality if your entire journey to adulthood has been a façade.

*MNHQ I've written this specifically in third person generically, in order not to directly reference or 'misgender' a particular person.
Should be within the guidelines.

I think it's a shame that anyone has been put in a position to reveal private information if they didn't want to - as allegedly has happened here.

Nikki's tutorials are good overall - very knowledgeable.

But to echo a poster above - no shit Sherlock (again not said with any bad feeling just it was obvious). I'd clocked that after I'd seen Nikki on the "Glow Up" TV show and tbh thought it was common knowledge.

Quite surprised by how many people commenting on the video didn't have a clue tbh.

Gingerkittykat · 13/01/2020 23:28

Lots of simpering and fake half crying in the coming out video.

My woke DD told me about her, apparently Nikkie has been in a long term relationship without telling the partner about the trans status. Surely a partner has the right to know who they are in a relationship with?

TerribleCustomerCervix · 13/01/2020 23:33

Quite surprised by how many people commenting on the video didn't have a clue tbh.

In fairness, I didn’t either.

She’s been doing YouTube since she was 16 or 17 and always presented as a girl. We’d only see her from shoulders up 95% of time, plus she dresses fairly conservatively and carried extra weight, so it was harder to clock the usual tell tale signs.

Extremely shitty that someone tried to blackmail her before she was ready to talk about it.

DeRigueurMortis · 13/01/2020 23:38

Terrible to be fair it was seeing Nikki on TV that I knew they were trans. I only saw the YouTube channel after that (and thought it was good).

If I'd not seen Nikki on TV it's possible I might not have suspected - I'll never know.

I just assumed it was a "known" thing tbh and quite admired the lack of reference to it in the videos (now I now why, but regardless it's clear they haven't been trading on it, rather their success is down to be being imho very talented).

Xyzzzzz · 13/01/2020 23:45

My woke DD told me about her, apparently Nikkie has been in a long term relationship without telling the partner about the trans status. Surely a partner has the right to know who they are in a relationship with?.

Isn’t nikkie engaged? That’s bad if they’ve not told the partner?

I think it’s appalling nikkie was being blackmailed.

GlitterToast · 13/01/2020 23:48

Nikki says in her "coming out" video that she held off from telling her partner initially. She says this was because everything was so magical and she didn't want to ruin the atmosphere. Her partner knows now and supports her.

FrivolousPancake · 13/01/2020 23:50

Ive always liked Nikkie but from what I father from the video she omitted the truth th her fiancé which I think is messed up.

It also worries me how many “young nikkies” as she put it, it will make think are born in the wrong body too.

Bluewater1 · 13/01/2020 23:54

Blackmailing someone is appalling, what a thing to do......

Doyoumind · 13/01/2020 23:55

I watched the video. It wasn't fake crying. That's not fair to say.

I've watched Nikkie on and off for quite some time and it's not that unusual for her to genuinely cry and despite keeping this secret I think Nikkie is a genuine person.

If you look back at the really old videos Nikkie looked very different but not boyish. I think if people just discover her and say it's obvious they are looking at the style of makeup that's become her trademark.

I didn't know. She's incredibly tall but I just thought it was because she's Dutch!

She's also fully transitioned so while she isn't female she's a million miles away from the TRAs and their lady dicks and just wants to get on with life.

WomanBornNotWorn · 13/01/2020 23:56

Poor love, she handled this blackmail with such grace and on her own terms, but jeez ... The mother. I always wonder about the motivations and mindsets of the parents who promote transitioning from a very young age.

snowblight · 14/01/2020 00:13

Lots of simpering and fake half crying in the coming out video.

Such compassion.

DeRigueurMortis · 14/01/2020 00:28

Agree Snow.

Being GC doesn't mean I leave my compassion at the door, especially for someone who has forged a career based on hard work and talent and found themselves blackmailed into disclosing their trans status (even though I thought it was common knowledge, but seemingly not).

Doyoumind · 14/01/2020 00:29

Oh here is Snowblight focusing on the one negative comment on the thread. Find another hobby.

snowblight · 14/01/2020 00:31

Interesting the number of 'I never realised' type comments on this thread. I thought GC women always claimed they could spot every trans person a mile off?

rocketmen · 14/01/2020 00:34

I've always liked her as a person, but not necessarily as a youtuber. 100% support from me, though!

I don't think one has to be 'woke' to know about one of the biggest beauty youtubers on the platform, though.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 14/01/2020 00:49

I thought GC women always claimed they could spot every trans person a mile off?

It can’t come as a shock to you that a very talented make up artist, who started their transition as a young teenager, and now has a vast amount of wealth to maintain their appearance, passes very well?

She’s the exception, not the rule.

I expect the blight slipped right past the mention that their status was obvious when they were on the TV show but not when on the Youtube channel.

UpfieldHatesWomen · 14/01/2020 01:12

... I mean, it's to transwomen's advantage if plastered on make-up to mask natural features is the fashion, as it makes it easier for them to then blend in, rather than if the trend was for a more natural look. With the male make-up artists mentioned all go in for this excessive style. Of course, it also means the sale of more and more products, all the more working to their advantage.
