I only know who they are due to DD watching their make up videos. They were on BBC 3s Glow Up program as a guest judge.
Apparently they were being blackmailed and so came out in a video, which is a bit shit for them.

It was in no way suggesting height was a giveaway. I didn't think she was tall because she was trans. I thought she was tall because she was Dutch. However, on reflection it's likely her biological sex played some part in her height. I'm not a feminine woman and I don't attach any importance to height as a marker of how feminine someone is.

GirlDownUnder · 15/01/2020 01:03

unwashedanddazed thanks for the intro to Jahkara J Smith and her Youtube channel is Sailor J.
She is very funny.

LangCleg the make-up tutorial that unwashed linked to is the first one I’ve watched. She’s worth it (to badly use a make-up marketing tag line).

.
You know it's honestly amazing that so many people think it's so obvious that she's trans but never mentioned it until today
Why would they ‘mention it’? FWR doesn’t trawl social media looking for transwomen to out. It’s not FWR feminists that are in to monitoring or policing other platforms.

...and it was deemed surprising enough to make the bbc news.
That it made the news, and hence this thread is the first introduction most of have had to Nikki and the only reason it is being discussed.

Creepster · 15/01/2020 01:22

Very few people look the same in person as they do on film with the filters available for editing images.
I had never heard of this person until this thread was posted.
Because they are an influencer with a lot of traffic I think the thread should be moved to celebrities or, barring that, make a transgender section so the gender advocates can discuss issues exclusive to them and their special interests @MNHQ

Cohle · 15/01/2020 01:45

Because many posters claiming "they always knew" quite patently had absolutely no idea but are obsessed with the blatantly transphobic idea that no tranwomen can "pass" and anyone GC can magically spot a transwoman at 100 yards.

Never heard of her before today, not sure why there's a thread about her, I think she looks like she's had a lot of plastic surgery.

Is that why she's been brought to my attention ? So we can have a feminist critique of cosmetic surgery ?! (I wish)

JanesKettle · 15/01/2020 06:04

As far as the question of where she belongs, in a third space! She's male! So male provision or third space/gender neutral.

If she does pass, then whatever. I guess she can choose to be ethical, and leave women's spaces for women, or to use our spaces, despite being male. I won't know, if she's so successfully 'womaning', so it's up to her and her conscience, isn't it ? You'd hope she'd choose the right thing, but maybe not.

CallofDoodee · 15/01/2020 07:11

There doesn't seem to be much about this on the usual suspects social media, given that this is a pretty significant 'coming out'. And one which, on the outside at least, appears to be a successful outcome of transitioning as a child. Even people like Bodyposipanda and Jameela Jamil who are usually all over this sort of thing haven't mentioned anything? The only one who has is Munroe briefly on stories.

I wonder if there is a bit of resentment that Nikkie has actually managed to keep this a secret for so long and managed to 'pass' for so long. Or that people think she is making it seem like being trans is something to be ashamed of. Obviously passing is the ultimate goal, and Nikkie has been able to do that for years in a way that people who actually trade on being trans cannot. I don't know... I just thought there would be far more about this from certain quarters.

UpfieldHatesWomen · 15/01/2020 07:34

Because many posters claiming they always knew quite patently had absolutely no idea but are obsessed with the blantantly transphobic idea that no transwoman can pass...
Did you read the link I posted above? It's not transphobic to trust your own senses, we are biologically programmed to detect the differences between the sexes. Very few transwomen pass. I'm sure there were also lots of people who didn't know Nikkie was trans too. I find it odd you're so heavily invested in thinking those terrible feminists standing up for women and children's rights were among those who were duped though, creepy even, I'd say you're the one who's obsessed - are you even a feminist? If not, why are you on this forum?
You say you're surprised there wasn't a thread about Nikkie before, yet it actually disproves your claim that this site is transphobic. Nobody cares if a trans person is simply getting on with their lives, and in this Nikkie sets a good example. What would the thread have been about? 'There's a trans beauty blogger' - so what? The threads about trans people on here refer to those using violence and threats against women, and concern the erosion of women's rights. You should try reading one rather than shouting at one, then you'd know, but I'm sure that's too much too ask and doesn't get you salivating quite so much.

Ereshkigal · 15/01/2020 07:53

are obsessed with the blatantly transphobic idea that no tranwomen can "pass"

That's a new one. Being able to notice biological sex is "transphobic" even if you never mention it. Just the very "idea" is enough.

Clymene · 15/01/2020 08:07

Funny how the word obsession is always used to denigrate women who object to male bodied people in our spaces. We're obsessed with genitals and obsessed with noticing the sex of people. Hmm

That'll be pesky old evolutionary biology at work, that well known transphobic bigot

Datun · 15/01/2020 08:16

but are obsessed with the blatantly transphobic idea that no tranwomen can "pass"

"Blatantly transphobic"

PreseaCombatir · 15/01/2020 08:26

Any man who has been through puberty will be identifiable as a man. Those who have unnaturally suppressed their puberty, and used synthetic hormones to look like women are a whole different kettle of ethics

UpfieldHatesWomen · 15/01/2020 09:08

CallofDoodee possible it was a trans person blackmailing Nikkie, in fact it would make a lot of sense. Nikkie might be resented for not coming out because then they couldn't be used for promoting the TRA agenda. Nikkie clearly said in the coming out video that they don't like labels, quite the opposite of identity politics driven TRA crowd.

LangCleg · 15/01/2020 09:25

LangCleg the make-up tutorial that unwashed linked to is the first one I’ve watched. She’s worth it (to badly use a make-up marketing tag line).

You can't tempt me!

JanesKettle · 15/01/2020 09:36

Links to make up tutorials ?!

I may just be a grumpy old Gen Xer, but sharing make up tutorial links wasn't how we did feminism in my day (harumph, shakes stick etc)

snowblight · 15/01/2020 09:53

*FWR doesn’t trawl social media looking for transwomen to out.^

I can think of one or two people sad enough to do that. There were a couple of threads deleted by the mods recently that were purely about picking apart the appearance of ordinary, not very well known trans people.

JanesKettle · 15/01/2020 09:57

snow, talk about how feminism relates to this story about a random make up artist, or go away.

Your endless criticism without any feminist analysis gives me a headache.

PracticallyFamous · 15/01/2020 10:05

People who have no feminist take on a topic under discussion are entitled to post here (even if it does throw up questions about why they would bother...questions that are sometimes then answered by their own behaviour) and the best thing to do is ignore and not engage, as you would with any attention seeker. Otherwise interesting and instructive posts risk becoming derailed...and then we're back to the second part of my parentheses.

JanesKettle · 15/01/2020 10:06

Fair enough, Famous

GirlDownUnder · 15/01/2020 10:09

Lang, Janes what can I say... you're missing out. I really think you'd like the tutorials.

She is definitely a feminist. And I wish more girls watched her take on make-up than the plastic fantastic version.

PracticallyFamous · 15/01/2020 10:13

That was a general observation rather than pointed at you, Janes!

JanesKettle · 15/01/2020 10:14

runs away and hides from Janes

Shaking my stick at you, Girl!

(I have a LOT to say on make up. None of which I will say tonight. I am too busy frothing over the transing of Frida)

JanesKettle · 15/01/2020 10:14

No worries, Famous if it was pointed that's all good too, not a problem and a good reminder!

OhHolyJesus · 15/01/2020 10:27

*There were a couple of threads deleted by the mods
*
I did find the Facebook profile of a trans man who was coming to FWR for their PhD research. This person shared their personal email which had their University and therefore gave away their location (City).

Their Facebook profile wasn't closed or private and once something is in the public domain it's no longer private. I wasn't outing them and I only searched for them because I wanted to find out if they had a biased approached to their research. They did. They had specific links to their views and are active in the defence of their POV.

This person subsequently posted on the Research Board and the OP asked for it to be deleted themselves as I think they realised the public nature of the post and the email addressed they shared.

You can't out or dox someone who gives their personal information and the internet is public, it's kinda the point....
