Gather LM is saying that they had to give up the previous post because they left the area (to go to Goldsmiths) but they're now standing for the women's officer post in Lewisham Deptford CLP. Voting is on Sunday, apparently.

It's very handy that there is a vacancy. What happened to the previous incumbent?

HilltopTractor · 23/10/2018 11:21

Lily is Momentum, Lewisham is Momentum, both are on a self destruct and scorched earth mission in my opinion.

HilltopTractor · 23/10/2018 11:25

Meanwhile in Telford CLP, people claiming to be Labour party member partners - threaten people with an army that will cause your death in Asda.Confused

I thought there was news last week that LM was elected LGBT+ Labour officer.

sorenipples · 23/10/2018 11:45

Is it common in university constituencies to have positions taken by enthusiastic students? If I had a choice I'd prefer someone who had had a longer connection to the area. Then again maybe these roles are hard to fill and they are grateful for a steady stream of volunteers.

ScarletBegonias · 23/10/2018 11:47

According to Lily, that's a branch position. Women's officer is a constituency position.
Or possibly the other way round. I have little understanding of how the Labour Party organises itself at local level.

Yeah, I didn't understand that either. Constituency parties have official officers and Lily was posting all that about a council ward. It was a bit odd.

I have got out the world's tiniest non-existent violin here...

With credit to FPFW for posting the link on FB, this is Lewisham Momentum:

====================================
Text of the FB post but do visit the actual page as the comments are GOLD (and written by Momentum members/supporters, no less!):

Given recent disagreements in Lewisham Deptford, our group would like to express sincere regret at the level of animosity and factionalism that has been allowed to develop amongst the local Labour Party membership.

On Tuesday night this culminated in the blocking, by others on the left, of Momentum-backed candidates in Brockley including prominent trans rights activist Lily Madigan.

By deciding not to back Lily and other comrades, delegate spaces were left open for the right-wing of the Party, with some on the left effectively choosing this over the alternative of a united left.

Last year, Lily was the first trans woman in the Party to be elected a CLP Women’s Officer. She suffered terrible harassment for what soon became a national news story, and became an inspiration for young LBGT+ people everywhere for her fearless stand in defence of basic principles of equality.

We are immensely proud to be supporting Lily in her candidacy for Women’s Officer in Lewisham Deptford CLP. Regrettably, her ability to even stand for this role has been made more difficult by these unprincipled manoeuvres.

We are calling for all women party members in Lewisham Deptford CLP to come out to their Women’s Forum at 1400 on Sunday 28th at New Cross Learning to vote for Lily and give her the fair chance at election that was denied her in her local branch on Tuesday.

On both this count and on the count of the other prominent young activists excluded, this cannot be allowed to happen again.

We need a united left to diversify our party, and be in the forefront of the struggle for equality at all times.

RedToothBrush · 23/10/2018 11:57

Lily thought it was a shoe in, right?

Oh dear. If even Labour members in a Labour area in London are struggling at a local level won't support at first attempt, that says a fair amount. Lily has profile others don't.

Gncq · 23/10/2018 11:59

I just kind of want to shout F* off LM...

ScarletBegonias · 23/10/2018 11:59

The comments on the FB page are interesting and extremely encouraging

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Local party resists bourgeois entryism.

SHOCK! HORROR!

pennydrew · 23/10/2018 12:01

Oh darn, I don’t have a Facebook account!

RedToothBrush · 23/10/2018 12:04

People might want to reflect on this for various reasons.

It's not who will win an election, but its about the level of enthusiasm and support for Corbyn there is.

"6) GETTING THE GRA WE WANT

This was a workshop with 3 experts sitting with groups and talking through activism. They were:

Helen Belcher (Lib Dems, Trans Media Watch)
James Morton (Scottish Transgender Alliance)
Alex Moore (GenderJam). Moore is from N Ireland.

James Morton gave some insight into tactics the TRAs will probably start using in England and Wales as they were successful in Scotland.

He said the TRAs need to build allies in mainstream women and children’s organisations so it looks like they care about them." (continues)

Momentum scare me, there seems something very wrong with their outrage that labour branch members decided to think for themselves and exercise democracy.

Fat fucking chance. Fuck off, Labour.

BiologyMatters · 23/10/2018 12:09

Is that the first pro women thing Lily has ever said?

ShotsFired · 23/10/2018 12:12

Christ on a bike, these snippets were the BEST of all the takes?

That was a handy way to FB block two extreme TRAs.

I found the man who caused a CLP exec to resign and Cllr Clit.

UpstartCrow · 23/10/2018 12:22

Expresses mild surprise at the accusation of 'right wing' for everyone who didnt vote for LM.

R0wantrees · 23/10/2018 12:23

Anne Ruzylo speech November 2017 includes description of her treatment by the CLP, Labour Party, Lily Madigan and allies with important insight into prisons and the vulnerability of women held there.

Anne Ruzylo described the risks which were realised this year by the sexual assaults committed by Karen White against female prisoners in New Hall Wakefield.

cf Lily Madigan's response when details began to emerge of White's crimes against women in screen shot.

"Marginalised groups of women will always get it worst."

It goes downhill from there.

Did everyone see this one from Liberty the other day BTW?

Liberty @ LibertyHq
"If feminism is fundamentally about inclusivity, equality and empowerment then the fight for trans equality should be a feminist issue."
