I am a bit concerned about this one. Widespread gusts to 60mph, but reaching 80mph in parts of the NE. Winds from a NW direction will bring down more trees than you would expect for this level of gusts as it is an unusual direction.

There is of course a snow risk too, especially for Scotland.

wind and snow....the country will grind to a standstill. Nobody seems able to tolerate a bit of hardship/uncertainty anymore!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/11/2021 11:37

Thank you for that helpful comment.

I'm feeling concerned about this too.... I've got a really busy weekend that includes lots of driving....
Never worried about things like this before kids!

Perihelion · 25/11/2021 20:17

We're predicted to get up to 63mph gusts, which for Edinburgh normally doesn't alway warrant a weather warning. But this isn't even a NW wind, it's a Northerly Shock It's going to be Baltic. Got an Amber wind warning from 3pm tomorrow until 9am Saturday.
Hello winter Grin

AlohaMolly · 25/11/2021 20:20

We’re in the mountains in Notth Wales and there is already snow on the tops!

Joystir59 · 25/11/2021 20:24

All Christmassy events cancelled, foreshore roads will be closed, no sea swimming, all garden furniture taken in, plant pots moved into shed. We are read in my Norther coastal town

Justmuddlingalong · 25/11/2021 21:46

Just been out to move pots and the garden furniture so that it's a bit more sheltered by the house. The wheelie bins are jammed together but they always get caught by strong winds so I'll maybe weight down the lids tomorrow, save me chasing the recycling round the garden.

Fadette · 25/11/2021 21:55

Will it come down south do you think?

longtompot · 25/11/2021 22:02

I'm down south and we are forecast 40+ mile an hour winds with sleet and snow showers.

Titsywoo · 25/11/2021 22:32

The South east isn't under the weather warnings so shouldn't be more than a bit windy

DillonPanthersTexas · 25/11/2021 22:33

I thought I had stumbled onto the baby names forum.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/11/2021 23:47

There is some cross model agreement for gusts of 90-100mph around the NE England/SE Scotland border tomorrow night.

Thank you OYBBK

As a result of those winds, warnings for parts of the NE have been upgraded to RED.
Red means danger to life.

Dh works in Aberdeen and has just texted saying it’s blowing a blizzard there….meanwhile in Dundee bright blue skies and sunshine with a low wind!

Justmuddlingalong · 26/11/2021 10:41

I don't ever remember a red warning for wind. We're right under it, so I'm going to hunt out the flask in case the power's knocked out, so I can at least have a coffee. Or a pot noodle if thing's get really desperate.

weegiemum · 26/11/2021 10:45

Beautiful pretty much still late autumn day in Glasgow, but I've got MIL flying in from Belfast later this evening, so not sure if she's going to be disrupted/delayed/cancelled.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2021 10:50

Justmuddling - I'd very much prepare for power cuts and not just short ones. I know infrastructure is more ready for wind where you are, but it's going to be difficult for electricity companies to get out to do any repairs for a bit.

I thought this was a names thread for a moment.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2021 10:53

I think it's important to remember that the exact track of the low pressure may still differ from forecasts. Impacts have trended a little more south easterly between yesterday and today.

I'm in the Red zone... better batter down the hatches. The Christmas light switch on has been cancelled by the local authorities. The wind is getting up here but its lovely and sunny at the moment.
