I am a bit concerned about this one. Widespread gusts to 60mph, but reaching 80mph in parts of the NE. Winds from a NW direction will bring down more trees than you would expect for this level of gusts as it is an unusual direction.

This is a website that shows global winds, though I've zoomed in to the relevant bit:

earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/1000hPa/orthographic=2.44,48.57,1280/loc=4.872,51.278

I haven't looked at any forecasts for an explanation as to why the winds are so strong on the east coast, but presumably they're being squeezed by the low pressure in the North Sea.

It also looks like the west coast of Scotland and Ireland aren't faring too well either.

Hope everyone stays safe.

Minniem2020 · 26/11/2021 21:01

I'm North Northumberland on the coast and I'm sitting here listening to the wind terrified! I can't remember it being as scary as this before. Thankfully we have power, I know some in a village 10 miles away have lost theirs

ZealAndArdour · 26/11/2021 21:03

I’m worried about my new little rescue cat who is still terrified of us and hiding under the kitchen units inaccessible to me. He’s going to be so scared if he hears the storm outside.

colouringindoors · 26/11/2021 21:06

minniem2020 thinking of you! Tea and chocolate an option?

Unescorted · 26/11/2021 21:16

It is getting breezy here too.

DementedPanda · 26/11/2021 21:17

Sounds like it's over.. all quiet now.

Toottooot · 26/11/2021 21:21

Far from over NE Scotland.
OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2021 21:26

Definitely not over!

Really? Should we expect more?

ScarlettDarling · 26/11/2021 21:31

Well we’ve got water teaming in through the flat roof over the kitchen extension. It’s too dark and horrible outside to see clearly but it doesn’t look like there’s any damage, don’t know where it’s coming in. It’s going to be fun trying to get a roofer tomorrow isn’t it?😩

colouringindoors · 26/11/2021 21:35

Some sobering tweets and photos on Twitter tonight...

NE Scotland here, on the coast just west of the red zone - but it's been a red zone storm for us. Loads of trees down. Village was cut off for a while but local heroes went out with chain saws to move some of the fallen trees. All buses and trains in the area are suspended until tomorrow. There have been power cuts but my village seems to have missed that so far. We had a hail storm a few minutes ago, but things seem to have subsided a bit now.

I think so, for a while yet I'm afraid.

We are okay in the Mearns thankfully but the tenants at our rented-out house in Aberdeen have sent us pics and oh my goodness, Fences all down, two giant trees in the road behind fallen into our garden and across the road, tiles coming off roof. Apparently the whole neighbourhood is like that. Awful. Will see what it looks like in the daylight tomorrow.

oh no :( hopefully you'll get some local roofers offering emergency repairs.

We're in Cheshire so 'just' yellow here, its got very, very windy in the last hour or so!

PuddingOfTheXmasType · 26/11/2021 21:47

I'm on the ne coast and it's absolutely wild. (1/2 mile from the coast ish) I've not seen weather like this for a few years.
We've already had huge branches falling onto the road, wifi is off, emergency devices to clear the roads

Unless you're in it I really don't think you can understand the magnitude. It's not a breeze, this weather blows trees down and moves heavy articles.

Our house is detached and complex surrounded by old trees

ListenLinda · 26/11/2021 21:47

When is the storm meant to cease @OhYouBadBadKitten?

DementedPanda · 26/11/2021 21:49

Started up again, trees are down blocking all roads into my area

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2021 21:50

It depends where you are Linda.

Same on the NW coast.
ListenLinda · 26/11/2021 21:55

I’m in West Yorks but I was thinking of the red zone.

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 26/11/2021 21:55

Same in south Cheshire, Tokyo
Fluffy I thought you were just in the Amber area?
Lots of sirens out there...

bg92 · 26/11/2021 21:56

My trampoline has just blown out my back garden over 6ft fences

I should have put it away when I asked do ffs

JeanBrash · 26/11/2021 21:56

Thank you so much for this OYBK

My elderly parents are right under the red as is my brother's family. They are staying put and hunkering down.

I hope everyone is ok
