I am a bit concerned about this one. Widespread gusts to 60mph, but reaching 80mph in parts of the NE. Winds from a NW direction will bring down more trees than you would expect for this level of gusts as it is an unusual direction.

Thanks for the head's up OYBBK. I've charged up my phone and tablet, I'm going to check the batteries in the wee lanterns and I've plenty of candles.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2021 11:02

Well done!

Just had a flood alert on my phone too. 😳 It's kind of hard to fathom, because the sky's bright blue and sunny just now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2021 11:19

I can imagine!
It looks like you have about 7 hours of gusts above 70mph forecast, with about three or four hours of very severe wind. It then unfortunately has a long tail of winds above 50 mph into tomorrow afternoon.
The low pressure may still wobble on its forecast track still, so that may change some between tonight and, well through the period it crosses.

I'd take the flood warning seriously too, especially if you are in a location vulnerable to northerly winds.

I love these updates ! How do you think it will hit the Midlands OYBBK?

Justmuddlingalong · 26/11/2021 11:24

Boats and tankers have come into the bay to shelter already. Hope DP gets sent home from work early.

TheCanyon · 26/11/2021 11:32

We've got an amber warning for wind and flood warning, town was just flooded a few weeks ago too. Looks like a beautiful autumn day outside the now too. Suppose I better go take the trampoline sides down and dismantle the greenhouse and make sure the dds haven't used all my candles Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2021 11:36

Thankfully I think tides are low during the peak winds off the northumberland coast.

In terms of the midlands, still a nasty day and trees will come down. Gusts 40-60mph over a prolonged period. Snow and rain looks to clear through in the morning (timing depending on where you are). Eastern Midlands and East Anglia could see a mix of rain, sleet and snow through the day.

I think I maybe should put some clothes and do some work Wink

Oh wow my sister is on the coast covered by the red warning. Not seen a red warning in a while for any reason.

PastramiNoRye · 26/11/2021 11:44

Ooft - we're just outside the red warning BUT wind is our worst weather (draughty windows and not much to shelter our house from the wind) Confused

Fleur405 · 26/11/2021 11:46

I’ve already been out to move a small potted tree into a sheltered (ish) spot, put bricks on the wheelie bins and take down the solar lights we have in the garden. It’s pretty wild in aberdeen already (and trying v.hard to snow) and the severe weather warning doesn’t actually start until later this afternoon.

Justmuddlingalong · 26/11/2021 11:47

I've just been out to upright the recycling wheelie bin. I think that'll be the first of many times over the next day or so.

Level75 · 26/11/2021 11:47

Sis has just told me she's driving up the A1 to Edinburgh after school today. Trying to dissuade her!

Changecountetextraordinaire · 26/11/2021 11:47

Scottish Borders here - the wind's starting to pick up. We're just inland from the red warning area, thankfully. Hope everyone on the coast is OK.

DementedPanda · 26/11/2021 12:34

Oh I should say, I'm on the Northumberland coast. Winds are getting strong and the red warning isn't until 3pm. Dh has nipped to get a bit of shopping that we need, school run at 3 then we are planning a cosy night and hoping the roof doesn't blow off!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2021 13:06

If you store stuff in your lofts and are in the very exposed part of the red warning, can I suggest that your bring anything precious out of it, or at least move it from underneath ridge tiles and from the gable ends of buildings where tiles tend to be more exposed.

If you can put wheels bins in garages that would be sensible.

Really weight down trampolines, remove safety nets and if it is possible, turn them upside down.

Perihelion · 26/11/2021 13:21

Level75 I would tell your sister not to do the A1 to Edinburgh this evening. It's totally cover by the red warning.

FourTeaFallOut · 26/11/2021 13:21

I'm on Teesside, not too far from the red warning. I've got the net and legs off the trampoline and put the bin in the shelter. It's a bit breezy right now but nothing noteworthy...and there's a warning for snow too? Is that likely?

Perihelion · 26/11/2021 13:26

Wind really starting to pick up in Edinburgh now.

DementedPanda · 26/11/2021 13:29

Very very windy on the Northumberland coast and the sky has clouded over. Big change from the lovely sunny morning.

Auntieobem · 26/11/2021 13:33

Dd is travelling by train this pm to us on the east coast of scotland. Snow/sleet just blowing(quickly!) Through here just now. And it's bloody freezing!

emummy · 26/11/2021 13:41

We’re in Aberdeenshire, in the red bit. So far breezy with frequent heavy snow and hail showers. And freezing! Good luck all

Justmuddlingalong · 26/11/2021 13:43

Sky's gone that snowy grey colour here in Fife.
