Morello’s baby and Red’s dementia was so sad but Doggett dying was just awful. I cried and then proper cried when Taystee saw her certificate for passing the exam

I guessed as soon as she died that she’d have passed, but I was still utterly gutted for her. Suzanne’s memorial to her was fabulous though.

The whole ICE shitty situation. Just awful.

It was the stuff of nightmares. Especially Blanca’s friends (Carla?) and the desert scene. I’m genuinely quite distressed by that. Her children will never know how desperately she tried to get back to them.

I love how the flashbacks gave the chance for past characters to reappear, and I sobbed my way through the last five minutes even though some of it was proper cheesy (ok look, Alex got transferred to a prison where all of the former cast members just happen to be!)

Just finished it. I thought it was a great way to end the series. And yes, thank god they got shot of Badison early on.

Maritza disappearing on the plane was terrifying - indeed all the ICE stuff with people just coming and going in the night was truly grim. Karla in the desert - so awful.

Doggett and the GED - also heartbreaking.

I thought Taystee was a gonner for sure when I saw Samira Wylie was guest starring in the episode. So pleased she made it back to life.

And the Poussey Washington Fund is real.

I was delighted for Blanca

I thought Morello’s storyline was a bit ham-fisted, to be honest. I know the point was to highlight how delusional/escapist she is, but Vinny just rocks up to tell her Stirling is dead (with no involvement or pastoral care from the prison or any other authorities), quickly followed by him wanting a divorce, then the odd flashbacks and the car crash ~ it was all a bit clumsy. Was the suggestion that she became an erotomaniac after accidentally killing a recently engaged couple?

I’ve seen a lot of bitching online about the fund being real but in a fictional characters name but if it gets people donating then does it matter what it’s called?!

I agree color I kept saying surely her husband will have told the prison staff. I know they shut the psych ward so couldn’t really do much but I thought it would have been mentioned at least.
I think that was the suggestion but it was a bit odd.

Are we assuming Aleida did kill Daya?

I was really annoyed with Daya's storyline. I really liked her in the early seasons.
Absolutely gutted about Doggett. I wish Boo had been in somehow.
Heartbroken about Martiza but buzzing for Gloria and Blanca.
Nicki was always one of my faves so I love that she became the new Red. Although I don't like how the dealt with Red.

It was also quite sad to see Daya and Aleida story line just kept going round in circles, shows how generations can end up in the same cycle.

The ice stuff was horrible but very true.

So happy badison left, felt bad for the ward cause she was just trying to be good like Caputo.

Thought it was an amazing final season. the best in a while.
Properly blubbing with taystee and doggett storylines. Brilliantly acted by both.
Such sad stories for red and morello but loved nikki in it all. Shes always been my favourite.
Loved Joe and fig all the way through. Nice ending for them.
The last scenes with all the old characters was lovely.
Am I the only one who didn't care about alex and piper? I lost interest in them many seasons ago!
All in all a fantastic season

@Biancadelrioisback I didn’t like later series Daya either however I think it showed quite well how easily prison can change you.

@HeyAssbutt nope you’re not the only one. I’ve never been a Piper fan though, it was the other characters keeping me watching.

I think we're not supposed to like Piper and Alex though. Piper's character doesn't really have many redeeming qualities and her obsession with Alex is frustrating, but we all know someone like that.
I think the show tried to show as many different types of characters under the microscope, flaws and all.
For me, Piper's obsession with Alex was indicative of how isolating prison is, she didn't have much else to focus on and she just couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Then when she got out, she was completely lost.
In the end, she had the option of being free, but she chose not to be. It wasn't a "true love always triumphs" type situation, it was more a fear of letting go and a fear of the future that held them together.

Very few characters had a satisfying character arc, most had a spiral. But that is true of real life.

Taystee for me (and I'm sure many others) was the main character. She overcame the impossible and, even though she didn't get her justice, she made a difference.

I think the character spirals were also because theres not a lot of ways to finish an arc when it's set in prison. I think Blanca had one of the most satisfying endings. So choked up when she got to see Diablo. Also Joe and Fig had great character development

I feel like certain events were predictable (Doggett, especially) and the whole series was spoiled by being so political. I get that they have a platform to express views on some horrific real-life situations, but I feel that they didn't do justice to 6 years worth of character development.

I never got or liked piper and Alex either.
Piper was whiny and Alex was quite one dimensional if you think about it, compared to someone like Red or Taystee.

I felt for Doggett. It was quite sad to see her built up and then broken down.

I was glad Gloria was released and Blanca was reunited with her boyfriend on her terms.

Really felt for Maritza but I wonder how it wasn’t picked up when she was originally in prison that she was an illegal immigrant. I mean how does it work if she wasn’t in the system wouldn’t have that flagged? Is that a stupid question lol

I never thought that they may have purposely made it so we weren’t supposed to like Piper/Alex but it definitely worked if that’s what they were going for.

I didn’t see Doggett dying either! I figured a main original character would go but not necessarily her.

I liked this series.

The only thing that felt a bit tacked in was Shani, she was a vehicle for tackling FGM and gay discrimination in Egypt, and the had Nikki deliver a few lectures on the subject. Then again, it’s a big topic and it’s important so I’m prepared to overlook it.

Also, when Taystee called Judy King and Caputo with all the statistics on the loans was all written with the subtlety of a sledgehammer, but again, it was for a good cause, so that’s ok on the whole.

And it was a shame to see Daddy go so early, but it was important in the development of Daya’s characters.

I like how they wrapped it up. They had the same female guard in the final scenes as the the very beginning, when Piper came in and they brought back the chicken. I liked Suzanne’s chicken jokes.

I don't know if I liked it or not. The whole season was such a downer until the last 10 mins, and that just felt like they had to cobble together a few happy moments to make it worthwhile. I know it's about being in prison and isn't meant to be happy, but it was like sitting there going 'OK another episode, what the hell is gonna go wrong now?'. Just wish they had spread out a few more happier things through the season rather than leaving it all til the end. I did like the end though, and seeing the other inmates.

Namechange drug overdose. She wasn’t given the extra time in her GED exam because Luscheck didn’t fill out the forms so she felt stupid and thought she’d messed it all up. Daya’s gang were doing drugs in the laundry so she did it too :(

I loved it. Taystee has been the standout character and actor for several seasons now imo, and I thought she was bloody wonderful this season. I wept like a baby when Poussey appeared in the flashback. But where was her goodbye? 😭

Taystee appeared with Suzanne when they distributed the forms the the loan and then she had an appearance when the last credits rolled, alongside the rest of them.
