So happy Badison was moved near the start.

Morello’s baby and Red’s dementia was so sad but Doggett dying was just awful. I cried and then proper cried when Taystee saw her certificate for passing the exam Sad

The whole ICE shitty situation. Just awful.

I meant Poussey!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 31/07/2019 13:08

I wonder if they used archive shots of her.

colourlessgreenidea · 31/07/2019 13:09

Really felt for Maritza but I wonder how it wasn’t picked up when she was originally in prison that she was an illegal immigrant. I mean how does it work if she wasn’t in the system wouldn’t have that flagged? Is that a stupid question lol

I wondered this too - doesn’t make sense really, and it seems like it was wedged in just to give a bit more shock value to their topical issue.

LoseLooseLucy · 31/07/2019 13:15

I liked it.

Shocked to learn though that the actresses who play Aleida and Daya are 38 & 36 respectively, I always thought Aleida's character was about 48 until she said in one of the episodes she was 37 😬

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 31/07/2019 13:17

The actress who played Aleida was in the first season of Fear the walking dead.

Morgan12 · 31/07/2019 13:22

Some of the endings were grim. Carla's got me the most as it's literally happening right now. The scene with the kids in the court room was really hard hitting. It's just awful all round.

I like the Daya/Aleida ending. There was no final ending with them and it makes me think that their fight will just go on and on and around in circles forever. With more of their family being affected. Sadly very true of alot of minority families in America.

I feel for Maria despite her being a cunt during the riots. It was a nice end scene for her though.

I wasn't fussed about Piper or Alex.

HeyAssbutt · 31/07/2019 13:32

I didn't see the doggett thing either. I think I was too worried that taystee was going to go through with it.
The scene with nikki and alex got me going too. Poor nikki went through so much this season.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 31/07/2019 13:37

The children in the courtroom scene was so sad. How can I judge sit in proceedings like this? Don’t they have morals?

hardyloveit · 31/07/2019 14:06

I've just finished it 😢 I loved that whole series! I think I missed what was in nickys letter she got in one of the last episodes and she started crying? What was in it?

LoseLooseLucy · 31/07/2019 14:42

The beginning of Nicky's letter was:

"Dear Nicky, they are taking me back to Egypt today. I wish I could have thanked you for adding a little bit of humanity to this place. It is people like you that keep people like me alive. You meant more to me than..."

hardyloveit · 31/07/2019 18:19

Ah okay ! Thank you!

Tigresswoods · 31/07/2019 18:26

I actually thought Red was faking just to get moved to Florida & get to Freeda.

I was quite surprised when it transpired she actually was ill.

Doggett was a great character & I love how she developed through the seasons.

I agree Taystee is in fact the main character but Piper is whose story it all started with.

Like above I saw Samira Whitley's name as guest star & thought we'd see how waiting for Taystee in heaven!

I love caputo but he did need a #metoo reality check.

Loved Pornstache making a cheeky appearance at the end. We were only missing Bennet really.

AmateurSwami · 31/07/2019 18:30

Ah I loved it! Cried on and off for the entire season binge.

SallyCinnamon3009 · 31/07/2019 18:40

Loved it! It didn't feel like it dragged in the middle like a few of the other seasons. Didn't even find Piper as annoying as before either.

Loved the end bits where all the old faces like Yoga Jones and Boo came back. Defo wanna rewatch it all from the beginning now.

Was gutted at first Taystee didn't get out but then felt like even though she was innocent she's maybe happier in prison. Sounds strange I know but she really found her niche and made a difference in there. When it did the flashback to her when she was first released it made me think sadly was there anything for her outside of prison.

Morgan12 · 31/07/2019 18:53

I never thought about Taystees story that way Sallycinnamon. Of course that's what the flashback was trying to convey. Can't believe I missed it. That makes me feel much happier about her ending now.

themouldneverbotheredmeanyway · 31/07/2019 19:10

I really wanted Piper to choose a happier life with Zelda. I thought Larry's assessment of her attachment to Alex was spot on!

I wanted to know what happened to Bennett. He was keen to raise his baby and wait for Daya, then he disappeared abruptly. Where did he go and did he have regrets?

Who was raising Daya's baby- did Daya give the baby to Pornstache's mum in the end?

The ICE stuff was awful. It's a shame it couldn't have been introduced earlier in the series to explore it more.

I wasn't crazy about Taystee tbh. I wanted to shake her during the riot when she refused the negotiated offer of better education, facilities etc, holding out for something that would never happen.

I thought there would be a twist that Morello's baby was alive and her husband had fabricated the death to cut ties with her. As she wasn't invited to the funeral, didn't have any official input from prison pastoral or chaplaincy services, I assumed the death wasn't real.

AmateurSwami · 31/07/2019 20:45

I wondered if they were going to cover real- life piper getting back with real life Larry. I fast forward all the piper/Alex bits 🙈

AmateurSwami · 31/07/2019 20:45

I agree, it’s s brilliant observation.

Thinking about it, didn’t she purposely get sent back to prison after her first release, because she feels happier when she’s in ‘the system’?

colourlessgreenidea · 31/07/2019 21:24

I thought so too. It was so weirdly written: Vinny just turning up during normal visiting hours to let her know over the phone. Surely under those circumstances there’d be arrangements made for her to be told under more compassionate circumstances? It’s not like Lorna is dangerous or violent, so I can’t see why Vinny couldn’t have told her privately and face to face.

Lorna’s past and present plots were a bit of a mess, really. Sad

SallyCinnamon3009 · 31/07/2019 21:51

@colourlessgreenidea it's years since I watched the first and second series but yeah I think that's what happened

Aside from Vee prison was the only place she ever really had a family and people who cared about her. Loved that she had Suzanne helping her in the last scene as well

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 31/07/2019 21:57

I thought Lorna was in prison for stalking. Remember when she kept going to a man's house when she was the driver?

Teacakeandalatte · 31/07/2019 22:17

I quite liked the ending except for Doggett dying I thought her character had progressed so much she deserved to live and have her second chance, although I did enjoy her memorial service with Suzanne singing the Mountain Dew song.

I also thought it would have been good if the new warden Tamika had turned out to be more of a match for the evil Linda and we would have felt that the prison would be a more humane place with her in charge and Taystee would have more of a chance to make a difference from the inside which seemed to be her fate.

CodenameVillanelle · 31/07/2019 22:25

I absolutely loved this series. I was gripped. Sobbed so many times. Perfect end. I'm so relieved that Taystee survived and found her place. I did think that cindy might try to get her out again but I think the whole point of the Poussey Washington fund was to show that Taystee needed to help others and was best placed to do that from inside.

itstoobloodyhot · 31/07/2019 23:43

Loved the season, loved the finale. Just wonderful and so cleverly highlighting so many themes. Taystee was the hero.

So many complexities that I'll be thinking about for weeks!

Sobbed at Dogget dying- such a very vulnerable character when you stripped back her layers and like many of the stories, she was doomed from the start, but we hoped there would be a better outcome.

I love the fact that they have used the show to create a fundraising campaign and used Pousseys character as a symbol of all of the themes that they were trying to highlight.

The tying up of all loose ends was wonderful and loved the overall main characters journeys. Going to miss it so much!

Wonderfully produced.
