Heads up - we're about to introduce a wee (it's really not that big) site update...

Morning folks,

As some of you pointed out at the time, the new navigation bar we introduced a little while back on the desktop site sits a little uncomfortably with what goes underneath it, design-wise.

So today we're introducing a little refresh of the rest of Talk. This update is also a bit closer to the mobile version, which it currently clashes with, so those who frequently switch from desktop to mobile will get a less variable experience.

If you use Mumsnet solely on mobile or tablet: as you were! Nothing’s going to change for you.

For desktop users, the functionality is unchanged (except for the addition of a threads I'm on button on the left hand side) but the fonts will look a little different.

We realise that any change can be difficult (and not necessarily welcome!) but please do give it a few days, as very often, we find, things like this just take a little getting used to and soon enough you've moved on and won't remember the difference.

As ever, we’re really keen to have your feedback, though, so do post below with your thoughts (we’re confident that you will grin). Also, if anyone fancies getting involved in the testing of this kind of stuff, do shout, we're always looking for volunteers.

We’ll switch everything over in the next hour or so - let us know what you think! We’ll keep this thread stickied in Site Stuff and Active Conversations throughout at the day.

Excellent! Not that I get the chance to MN whilst using a desktop these days.... Hope it works out for you.

Change is good! :D

I think mine has changed already.... different font...

Lweji Wed 16-Mar-16 11:23:55

It's like magic.
You update your screen and you suddenly have a whole new experience. I thought I was on drugs.

Don't do this again without fair warning or during the morning, FGS.

nauticant Wed 16-Mar-16 11:24:09

The font has changed.

I'm going to write to my MP.

00100001 Wed 16-Mar-16 11:24:20

oooh and a new drop down menu.... exciting smile

Lweji Wed 16-Mar-16 11:24:38

I'm just glad it wasn't something I did to the computer.

Maryz Wed 16-Mar-16 11:24:51

I'm not a fan of change as you may have noticed but I rather liked the last one because it was so clean and minimal.

I will reserve judgement grin

00100001 Wed 16-Mar-16 11:24:53

nauticant make sure you write to the MNHQ school governors too.. grin

00100001 Wed 16-Mar-16 11:25:24

maryz if you want minimal, install an adblocker.. it's BLISS.

Maryz Wed 16-Mar-16 11:25:29

Oh, and mine changed as I was posting.

My eyes have gone funny <blinks>

Lweji Wed 16-Mar-16 11:25:46

Actually, the font size on the "I'm on" list is too small and very hard to read.

TimeIhadaNameChange Wed 16-Mar-16 11:26:22

I'm finding it harder to read.....hmmmm

JanetOfTheApes Wed 16-Mar-16 11:26:42

Its horrible.

squoosh Wed 16-Mar-16 11:26:46

I don't usually mind site tweaks but I'm not a fan of this font change. It's much harder to read than the usual font.

FruStefanOla Wed 16-Mar-16 11:27:02

I like the font. Haven't got time to check out the other changes as I've got to go out now - will have a look later!

00100001 Wed 16-Mar-16 11:27:13

to be fair... the font is harder to read.

It's kind of .. narrow.

oooh and a new drop down menu.... exciting smile

Change is indeed, good.
<salutes Justine>

squoosh Wed 16-Mar-16 11:27:22

And when I click threads 'I'm On', I can barely read it.

Maryz Wed 16-Mar-16 11:27:25

<whispers: I have adblocker, don't tell mnhq>

The font is very, erm <blinks rapidly> faint and spikey. What is it (and what was it).

moonbells Wed 16-Mar-16 11:27:58

OK I find the new font a lot harder to read. The old one (still there in the Trending box so I can compare...) has thicker lettering. This new one, though more 'open' is harder if you are optically challenged and not reading with prescription specs as the letters fuzz out too much. Can't really explain easily.

Are you planning to make it possible to change to the bolder letters in the customisation settings?

SagaAndMartinsLiftConvos Wed 16-Mar-16 11:28:20

This explains it! Aaargh, I hate change.
