Heads up - we're about to introduce a wee (it's really not that big) site update...

Morning folks,

As some of you pointed out at the time, the new navigation bar we introduced a little while back on the desktop site sits a little uncomfortably with what goes underneath it, design-wise.

So today we're introducing a little refresh of the rest of Talk. This update is also a bit closer to the mobile version, which it currently clashes with, so those who frequently switch from desktop to mobile will get a less variable experience.

If you use Mumsnet solely on mobile or tablet: as you were! Nothing’s going to change for you.

For desktop users, the functionality is unchanged (except for the addition of a threads I'm on button on the left hand side) but the fonts will look a little different.

We realise that any change can be difficult (and not necessarily welcome!) but please do give it a few days, as very often, we find, things like this just take a little getting used to and soon enough you've moved on and won't remember the difference.

As ever, we’re really keen to have your feedback, though, so do post below with your thoughts (we’re confident that you will Grin). Also, if anyone fancies getting involved in the testing of this kind of stuff, do shout, we're always looking for volunteers.

We’ll switch everything over in the next hour or so - let us know what you think! We’ll keep this thread stickied in Site Stuff and Active Conversations throughout at the day.

Flowers Justine

Ooh! I just refreshed my screen & it looks all different!

I quite like it, actually.

fourquenelles · 16/03/2016 11:29

Stop it! Stop it now!! The font is awful. Too square and hard to read.

PS Me too Maryz shhhhhhhhh.

MTPurse · 16/03/2016 11:29

This is horrible on the eyes, The font is horrendous.

I am really struggling to read.

momb · 16/03/2016 11:30

Ah, just wandered down here to find out what's going on and realise that I missed the update information.
Thanks for the new improved functionality. The fonts are too square though. It's hurting my eyes.

It looks a bit stretched and spaced out.

I'm not sure - I don't hate it but it's making my eyes go a bit funny Confused

LatinForTelly · 16/03/2016 11:31

Woah, that was strange, everything changed as I clicked between threads.

Well, I sort of prefer the other font but I too will reserve judgment [luddite].

FaithlessOne · 16/03/2016 11:31

I'm not feeling the love for the new font. Sad

Jasonandyawegunorts · 16/03/2016 11:31

It's a bit... spaced out....

Were you going for the empty white room look?

UsernameIncorrect · 16/03/2016 11:31

Can you widen the font on threads? Headers and all are lovely and clear, but the font is too narrow. I don't need MORE wrinkles.

PestoSkiissimos · 16/03/2016 11:32

God this new font is so clinical Sad

EcclefechanTart · 16/03/2016 11:32

The font is much harder to read, for me. It's narrower and fainter, somehow.

JustineMumsnet · 16/03/2016 11:32

Re the font - It's Roboto which is a Google font and passes all the accessibility tests etc. The line height is also greater now, which helps readability for some people but, of course, everyone is different so we're very keen to get your feedback.

What I would say is use it for a little bit though, as often it's the change that you're getting used to - but if you still find it tricky after a bit of use then please do let us know.

I thought I'd hit a button by accident - was about to start the time honoured tradition of turning the iPad on and off again whilst cursing all before me. It's a bit jarring - I don't think I like it.

WorraLiberty · 16/03/2016 11:33

Oh I love it Shock Grin

The font is much larger, so easier for my elderly eyes to read.

My new TIO button is on the right hand side though, underneath active.

MaidOfStars · 16/03/2016 11:33

Love it.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 16/03/2016 11:34

it would be easier to read if the letters were slightly wider/more spaced out - it's all a bit scrunched up at the moment.

Plus TIO is almost unreadable as the font is so small Sad

paxillin · 16/03/2016 11:34

I find the new font hard to read. I do have bad eyesight though, so it might be ok for most people.
