Heads up - we're about to introduce a wee (it's really not that big) site update...

Morning folks,

As some of you pointed out at the time, the new navigation bar we introduced a little while back on the desktop site sits a little uncomfortably with what goes underneath it, design-wise.

So today we're introducing a little refresh of the rest of Talk. This update is also a bit closer to the mobile version, which it currently clashes with, so those who frequently switch from desktop to mobile will get a less variable experience.

If you use Mumsnet solely on mobile or tablet: as you were! Nothing’s going to change for you.

For desktop users, the functionality is unchanged (except for the addition of a threads I'm on button on the left hand side) but the fonts will look a little different.

We realise that any change can be difficult (and not necessarily welcome!) but please do give it a few days, as very often, we find, things like this just take a little getting used to and soon enough you've moved on and won't remember the difference.

As ever, we’re really keen to have your feedback, though, so do post below with your thoughts (we’re confident that you will Grin). Also, if anyone fancies getting involved in the testing of this kind of stuff, do shout, we're always looking for volunteers.

We’ll switch everything over in the next hour or so - let us know what you think! We’ll keep this thread stickied in Site Stuff and Active Conversations throughout at the day.

Just saying.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 16/03/2016 11:58

Why do you keep changing things that didn't need changing in the first place?

Jasonandyawegunorts · 16/03/2016 11:58

Sort of Mumsnet in ghost form.

I like it! But I'm on my PC with an enormous screen.

bungmean · 16/03/2016 11:59

Font is really hard to read - it is giving me eye strain.

Personally I prefer a serif font, but if you are going down the sans serif route, this is not a good font to choose.

If you're sticking with a Google font, my suggestions would be Roboto Slab (but that's a serif), Merriweather (again a serif font but very readable), Noto Serif (yup, a serif again), or Muli (a sans serif).

Verdana is a very readable sans serif font.

Blimey, I'm getting a headache from this font!

SagaAndMartinsLiftConvos · 16/03/2016 11:59

At least the jumping-down pages have stopped

Not for me, they haven't Sad

Italiangreyhound · 16/03/2016 11:59

I hate change too! But if you have to do it, you have to do it.

puzzledbyadream · 16/03/2016 11:59

It looks a bit unprofessional in my opinion. Like a mobile site on desktop. The In The News bit looks particularly poor.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 16/03/2016 11:59

You may find that some of us move on completely though...

Nanny0gg · 16/03/2016 12:00

Re the font - It's Roboto which is a Google font and passes all the accessibility tests etc. The line height is also greater now, which helps readability for some people but, of course, everyone is different so we're very keen to get your feedback.

Does that mean it's actually tested on people with bad eyesight?

I think the font is much easier to read - it's properly formed. Everything will move over to this type of font in time, it's more accessible.

badg3r · 16/03/2016 12:01

Ooooohhh! I like it! It's a bit Windows 10.
The strike through is harder to see on my screen now
Sore head
Can't ..... tell .... if ..... being ..... serious ....

Esspee · 16/03/2016 12:01

I'm finding it much too difficult to read. Please can you change it back.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 16/03/2016 12:02

Yep, pages still jumping down here too. :(

Nanny0gg · 16/03/2016 12:04

And Justine - that's a very strange definition of 'wee'...

Just sayin'...

GrouchyKiwi · 16/03/2016 12:05

The more I read the new font the more my eyes feel strained and I feel a headache coming on (also a migraine-with-aura sufferer).

Lweji · 16/03/2016 12:06

I don't like the settings on the Message box.
The letters are too thin and big, so they're difficult to read.

NanTheWiser · 16/03/2016 12:06

Hitting the back button after reading a thread takes me to an earlier page in the old style! Having to refresh to get updated page, awful!

iseenodust · 16/03/2016 12:07

On active discussions the topic headings are too small and when it's blue on blue particularly hard to read. Thread titles are a reasonable size.

I'm on a laptop at usual 100% setting and don't need glasses !

Lweji · 16/03/2016 12:07

It's your cache. Delete it.

AShiverofSharks · 16/03/2016 12:07

Ooooh, pretty Grin

openthecurtains · 16/03/2016 12:08

After a few pages the font is blurring on me and I'm having to squint. I also get migraines and I'm closing this down now as it's just not worth it. It's amazingly hard to read for something plain-looking. On Desktop Mozilla if it makes a difference.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 16/03/2016 12:08

I can't read it
