Low-carb bootcamp

January 2019 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 1

Well happy new year!

Here's a sparkling, brand new, Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for us all to get this new Bootcamp off to a good start.

Remember, you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to - and if you don't want to declare your actual weight, you can index it - which means that your starting 'weight' is 100. Then for every pound you lose, you take off one. So if you lose 4lbs in week 1, then your 'weight' starting for week 2 will be 96.

There are over 170 people signed up, so the thread will move very quickly - but please, please, please read all the posts. Don't just jump on and post your own stuff without reading what other people have posted. That's especially the case if you're posting with a question - read the thread to make sure it hasn't already been asked.

Have a good look at the spreadsheet and all the tabs at the bottom, as there's a huge amount of information there - not just the rules, but also the list of vegetable carb counts, and some really interesting reading/videos too.

I hope everything there is clear, but if not - just shout.

Looking forward to getting going!

Hi BIWI I've not done this before. I've looked at the spreadsheet and found my name, but how do I put my weight in? There's a tab that says I have to ask the owner for edit access... do I click on that?

littlebillie · 14/01/2019 07:02

I can't add mine either

Day 1 ready to go.

I'm also having spreadsheet problems. I have the app but it says it view only. I'm probably doing something wrong.

Onward with the water!

Good morning, thanks BIWI for all the advice and time you dedicate to this thread.

Very excited to be here!
Not that excited about hopping on the scales this morning Blush

View only for me as well

I, too, am confuddled. Clicking on the link opened the spreadsheet on a webpage, but I couldn't access it. It told me to download the Google Sheets app, which I did, but I still don't know how to access the spreadsheet. I'm on an iPhone.

Also waiting for spreadsheet instructions!

Just had big cooked breakfast, twice as much as I normally have but my tummy is wailing "where's my slice of toast???"

Sitting here with my green tea. I downloaded ‘sheets’ on iPad but still says ‘view only’.

I'm here. I'm having spreadsheet issues too. Start weight is 73.3kg 😥 I know this woe works as I got down to 63kg for my wedding last year.

Thanks for doing a new bootcamp 👍

Moring everyone! Glad to be back on bootcamp this morning. I had a break over Christmas but got back on it before new year and I'm just under where I was at the end of the last bootcamp in December. Will add my weight to the spreadsheet later on when I have more time.

Good luck everyone - it really does work and makes you feel much better in so many ways! Flowers

Ah. Sorry. We've had this problem before, but I don't know how to rectify it. I'll alert @AthelstaneTheUnready!

@BalloonSlayer - ignore it! Your tummy doesn't know what your brain knows.

Morning fellow boot campers!

Thanks BIWI for the new camp. After being rubbish on the last one I am determined this time. Lots of reasons I was rubbish, but one was definitely not posting regularly on the threads, huge support and inspiration, plus the accountability which I really need.

I’ll try the spreadsheet on my laptop once I’m in the office.

Good luck everyone!

I've sent a message to @AthelstaneTheUnready, so hopefully it will be fixed soon!

In the meantime, keep posting ...

One thing I should post is my regular disclaimer:

I am not a medic. I have no formal training in nutrition or science, and I'm not a dietician or nutritionist. Everything that I post here is based on my own reading and experience. You take responsibility for your own involvement by taking part.

And also:

If you're on any long term medication, especially for hypertension (high blood pressure) or high cholesterol, or if you're a diabetic, please consult your GP. The effects of low carbing are likely to mean that your medication dosage could need to be adjusted

I weighed myself this morning and realised that I have gained 120lbs in the last 8 months - unfortunately I know it’s going to take longer to lose than it did to gain. Anyway onwards and downwards!

Don't focus on the big number! Focus on smaller, more easily-achievable losses, so aim for half a stone at a time. Much easier psychologically

Also, bear in mind that a reasonable weight loss is around 1-2lbs a week.

In the first couple of weeks of low carbing you're likely to lose a lot more than that, especially if you have a lot to lose, but then it will slow down to this 'normal' rate of loss.

Checking in too. A repeat BCer here trying to shift Xmas lbs and a few more.

My suggestion to new folks is to measure yourself and jot them down. I think you'll be surprised how your body changes even in moments when the scales don't seem to move.

Rshard · 14/01/2019 08:28

Would absolutely second brassica’s suggestion to measure.

Morning everyone, Just checking in. I did May bootcamp last year then started the Oct one but was going through redundancy consultation and couldn't deal with it all so gave up. The consequence of that (and xmas) is 10lb up. Would like that to go in this bootcamp.

BalloonSlayer Don't worry, your tummy will forget about toast in no time Grin

I'll be lurking. Putting the ginger spiced pork shoulder in the slow cooker as we speak!

I've made a start! Unsweetened soya milk in my tea this morning (can't/won't give that up) and it was perfectly drinkable. Poached eggs and spinach for breakfast and now about to drink my own body weight in sparkling water. Also weighed myself for the first time in a year; I've been avoiding the scales. Not happy with the number, but not actually as bad as I thought.
