January 2019 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 1

BIWI · 14/01/2019 00:59

Well happy new year!

Here's a sparkling, brand new, Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for us all to get this new Bootcamp off to a good start.

Remember, you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to - and if you don't want to declare your actual weight, you can index it - which means that your starting 'weight' is 100. Then for every pound you lose, you take off one. So if you lose 4lbs in week 1, then your 'weight' starting for week 2 will be 96.

There are over 170 people signed up, so the thread will move very quickly - but please, please, please read all the posts. Don't just jump on and post your own stuff without reading what other people have posted. That's especially the case if you're posting with a question - read the thread to make sure it hasn't already been asked.

Have a good look at the spreadsheet and all the tabs at the bottom, as there's a huge amount of information there - not just the rules, but also the list of vegetable carb counts, and some really interesting reading/videos too.

I hope everything there is clear, but if not - just shout.

Looking forward to getting going!

Mine has minused off the next column too. Oh well!

Bungalowbeth · 14/01/2019 14:36

Seems ok now.

I made up a 20 per cent fat lamb mince pot that I’m going to have for a late lunch and evening meal. It’s just lamb mince with mushrooms, onions a few sliced cherry tomatoes and a lot of spices.

I’m aiming for 5000 steps per day too. I’ve been a sloth for ages.

Bungalowbeth · 14/01/2019 14:49

I actually started last Tuesday, I’m ok to put my (hopeful) weightloss in the sheet tomorrow, yeah?

TimeIhadaNameChange · 14/01/2019 14:51

Hi Athel. Thanks for that. Have just checked again and I can now put stuff onto the spreadsheet, so it's working for me now, at least.

Buns are fine. Wee bit of annoying each other going on but I think that's because spring's around the corner and they think they're procreating. They definitely won't be!

And we still have our hedgehog visiting. I suspect there's more than one, which would mean hoglets soon. Let's hope so!

How are you doing? And the cats?

tootstastic · 14/01/2019 14:57

Hi all and thanks to @BIWI and @AthelstaneTheUnready for making this possible.

Just checking in having entered my weigh-in on the spreadsheet. I've carried on since the end of the pre-Christmas bootcamp. Started out at a whopping 262 lbs and now a still massive (but 36.2 lbs lighter) 225.8 lbs.

I intend to just keep going with this WOE, firstly to lose the weight, but then to stop ever gaining it again. Having been a serial yo-yo dieter all my adult life, this feels like the answer. Sugar appears to be my enemy, so I've decided to stop battling it and just walk away.

I still feel much bigger than everyone else and have a long way left to go. Just this morning I've been in tears after seeing a friend's photos of me from the weekend, looking unbearably huge in a dress I'd felt I looked ok in. But, I have consoled myself that 16st 1.8lbs still feels and looks a lot better than the 18st 10lbs I was in October. Those photos have just helped me strengthen my vow to never look that awful again.

Good luck everyone, it's nice to have the company.

SheldonTheWonderShlong · 14/01/2019 15:13

Quick question. I won't be able to weigh in every week as I don't have scales at home. Is it ok to log total pounds lost in the column of the week I am able to weigh e.g. I won't be able to weigh on 21st but shoukd be able to on 28th so would I just leave 21st blank and fill in 28th with my 'new' weight?

Lost5stone · 14/01/2019 15:26

SheldonTheWonderShlong I think that's fine! You don't even need to weigh if you don't want to (although I find it helpful)

BIWI · 14/01/2019 15:30

Sorry for absence. Irritatingly I had to go to work this morning!

I'm afraid that I'm already going to have to wield The Big Stick ...

@venusandmars:

Woo hoo! I'm on the spreadsheet, now I feel like I've really started - well that and the avocado for breakfast, followed by bullet proof hot-chocolate (coconut oil, butter, cream, raw cocoa powder, tiny bit of stevia)

Why are you eating cocoa powder and stevia? Both are forbidden in the first two weeks of Bootcamp, along with these:

some of these bombs in the fridge - great for a wee snack or if I feel the need for a treat with a mug of herbal tea. PEANUT AND COCNUT BALLS

NONE OF THE INGREDIENTS IN THE PEANUT AND COCONUT BALLS ARE ALLOWED ON BOOTCAMP!

Have you read Bootcamp rules?

We're also supposed to be avoiding sweet things, as we're trying to break the hold that sweet things have over us.

BIWI · 14/01/2019 15:32

... and keto bread isn't allowed either, as it uses almond flour

Rshard · 14/01/2019 15:32

Don’t dispair toots, you’ve done so well! It’s all about the mini goals remember. Also, if you’d not started this woe back in October, how much more weight would you have gained? You’ve got this!

The only issue I can think of is that the cumulative formulas on the spreadsheet might not work if you didn’t enter anything, but you could get round that by simply entering the previous weeks.
If that makes sense sheldon

BIWI · 14/01/2019 15:34

But now I see that you've figured that out Grin

Ketostix are things I don't recommend on Bootcamp. Because if you're drinking the amount of water that you should be, then they will only show pale pink anyway - so they're a waste of money

BIWI · 14/01/2019 15:37

@samii1989 have you downloaded the app? I don't think you can access it on your mobile without the app.

BIWI · 14/01/2019 15:40

@tootstastic - Flowers you've done brilliantly! Look, the weight didn't go on overnight, so it's not going to come off overnight either. It's a case of KOKO (keeping on keeping on). But we're all here to keep you going as well.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 14/01/2019 15:41

Hi again everyone. Great to be back!

Im waiting on the spreadsheet to be fixed too so i can put on my name.

Still hovering around my usual weight of 13st ish but started low carbing early on wednesday and have already weed out 5lb and got through keto headache thank goodness.

Im giving up breastfeeding finally in a couple of weeks so going full low carb with no reservations!! and will incorporate some fasting perhaps in the later stages if needed.

Lets go!!

tootstastic · 14/01/2019 15:46

Thanks @Rshard for your lovely words of encouragement and well done to you for getting back on the wagon. You're totally right of course; if I hadn't started in October, I'd be 20st by now!

And thanks too @BIWI, I know it takes time, it's just hard to see the pictures. I'll just have to keep them in mind when I feel like giving up. KOKO all the way!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 14/01/2019 15:47

Hi, @Iamnotacerealkiller - you're on! There isn't a problem as such with adding names, it's just that last time someone unfortunately deleted a load of people's names so this time round I've stopped people being able to edit column A.

If anyone wants adding, just shout for me and it will be done! Grin

1stMrsF · 14/01/2019 16:02

Thank you @BIWI and @AthelstaneTheUnready for setting up bootcamp for us.

I was doing LCHF last week to get used to it but drinking wine yesterday has meant that today has been more difficult again!

B-smoked salmon and hard boiled egg
L-Meatballs in tomato sauce. veg and salad
D- will be turkey curry with full fat yoghurt and lots of tenderstem broccoli
W- already drunk 3l

I am just drinking tap water during the day, but have replaced my morning coffee with a big thermal mug (450ml) of hot water and lemon which is really helping to up my liquid intake. One of my Christmas presents to myself was a soda stream to attempt to replace wine with fizzy water in the evenings...

JellySlice · 14/01/2019 16:09

Pleased to report that I have managed not to eat any of biscuits and chocolates that invaded work today. And I have walked past every tempting sweet shop without going in. And, best of all, I have done this without saying "No" to myself.

My new mantra is "I'm looking after myself".

(And "I'll have a nice, big snack when I get home." Grin)

Iamnotacerealkiller · 14/01/2019 16:18

@AthelstaneTheUnready

Thankyou!

@JellySlice

My willpower is great while I'm losing but wobbles when I don't. I'm usually a daily weigher but I think I may try going to weekly from next week to forestall my 'sod It' reflex that usually makes an appearance at that point.

ilovecherries · 14/01/2019 16:21

toots, you are doing really well, and it’s not a case of it WILL happen for you - it’s already happening. I think I’ve shared on the last BC that I was so mortified about my weight on my first bootcamp that I adjusted it to be the same as a few other ‘heavy’ people rather than be a complete outlier. Don’t be hard on yourself - I think sometimes the process of accepting how we look as we change is tougher than the years of denial that preceded it.

Cheeseandapple · 14/01/2019 16:24

Eek feel like 4-7 is prime sugar hit time. I've just had a bowl of yoghurt with cinnamon in for a snack and going to top up the water bottle. I've had 2 of 4l today.

tootstastic · 14/01/2019 16:48

@ilovecherries thanks, you are where I want to be in a few months time and it's sometimes a case of convincing myself that it really is happening for me, albeit slowly, but surely. It's a mindset that needs working on, definitely.

KiteMarked · 14/01/2019 16:51

I have no idea what I'm doing for dinner, which is a problem.

What's a quick, easy meal I can make for the family?

Otherwise, today I've had boiled eggs with cream cheese and celery for breakfast (weird, but satisfying) and fish, butter and broccoli for lunch. Halfway through my 3l of water, but gosh, I've been to the toilet a LOT today. Will have to invest in more toilet roll as well as healthier foods. :)

I have at least 2 stone to lose. I lost a lot of weight 12 - 18 months ago, but it's been creeping back on.

I've definitely got a sugar/carb addiction, and I'm trying to rewire my brain to think of all that stuff as poison. I don't even properly enjoy it when I do eat it, so why do I bother?

BIWI · 14/01/2019 17:14

@KiteMarked - lack of planning is a surefire way to guarantee you'll fall off the plan!

What ingredients do you have to hand - let's see if we can help you.

BIWI · 14/01/2019 17:18

We're having stir-fry tonight, which I'm going to make with a couple of pork chops, that I'll cut into thin slices and will marinate in some garlic, ginger and soy sauce.

Then the stir-fry will be with beansprouts, shallots, thinly sliced green cabbage and mange touts. I may throw a couple of chillies in there as well, because everything is improved with a bit lot of chilli!

DS1 is coming home for a few days, so depending what time he gets here, and if I have to cook for him as well, I'll bulk this out further with some Bare Naked noodles (zero carbs). I'm also making some chicken stock that I'll use to add to it as well.
