January 2019 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 1

Well happy new year!

Here's a sparkling, brand new, Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for us all to get this new Bootcamp off to a good start.

Remember, you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to - and if you don't want to declare your actual weight, you can index it - which means that your starting 'weight' is 100. Then for every pound you lose, you take off one. So if you lose 4lbs in week 1, then your 'weight' starting for week 2 will be 96.

There are over 170 people signed up, so the thread will move very quickly - but please, please, please read all the posts. Don't just jump on and post your own stuff without reading what other people have posted. That's especially the case if you're posting with a question - read the thread to make sure it hasn't already been asked.

Have a good look at the spreadsheet and all the tabs at the bottom, as there's a huge amount of information there - not just the rules, but also the list of vegetable carb counts, and some really interesting reading/videos too.

I hope everything there is clear, but if not - just shout.

Looking forward to getting going!

@Carobaro - you're on!

Don't know what happened with the sheet - it was set so you could all edit, so don't know why it came over all secretive and reverted to view only. Confused

Will keep a stern eye on it from now on.

@Cheeseandapple - I think that would be lbs - can your scales show stones, lbs and ounces, or does the display just show you that? (I have old spring loaded scales so have to crouch really awkwardly if I want to see the smaller divisions between the lbs! I don't bother, in fact...)

AthelstaneTheUnready · 14/01/2019 10:24

@VenusStarr - you might need to delete your cached files, which could be taking you back to the initial page you saw displayed, rather than the current one. Depending what browser you're on, that will be in your settings somewhere. First, just try clicking refresh on the page, in case that works.

ElasticFirecracker · 14/01/2019 10:25

Hello, I have checked in on the spreadsheet.

I had breakfast in two parts. 6:30 am 200g full fat yog, then 10:00 two eggs, one small avocado and 2 walnut halves (I don't think I should have had the walnut halves).

Planning tinned fish with olives for lunch.

ChangoMutney · 14/01/2019 10:27

Morning all, just checking in. I did one of the earlier bootcamps but am now much bigger than ever. I've got a tricky day ahead as I've got to drive DD back to Uni so will be on the road for most of the day. I'm planning to fill up before I leave and hope to find a salad while I'm out.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 14/01/2019 10:29

Just remember to cover that salad in lots of lovely full fat stuff, @ChangoMutney - fill it with cheese, or cover it with mayo or olive oil (take your own in a container) if all you can find to buy is bare leaves.

prettybird · 14/01/2019 10:39

bibliomania - unless you're veggie or only wanting to maintain, you shouldn't be having chia seed or flaxseed in this initial 2 weeks.

Hefzi - the "getting up during night to wee" does settle down as your kidneys get used to the extra fluid Grin

MrsKoala · 14/01/2019 10:43

Morning all. My planned Sunday of shopping and cooking went out the window yesterday when I woke to the boiler broken and then waited in all day for the plumber who never showed. This morning I've had a 4 egg, spinach and cheese omelette cooked in butter and 2 cups of herbal tea. I am so cold I would normally eat toast and drink milky tea all day to keep warm but today is going to be fruit tea and water and spicy pork mince and fried eggs for lunch. Broccoli and stilton soup for my 4.30 dinner with the children and then Spanish chicken and cauli rice for second dinner at 9pm with DH.

I have done BC before and had fantastic results. It really does work but I've been living off the children's leftovers and takeaways for the last 4 months and a stone has crept on. I am 12st10 and really like to be 11st 10 (I know that still sounds heavy but i'm massive so that's me at a size 10/12 which is as slim as I can go before I start looking awful). I can't remove temptation from the house so I am going to have to be strong. The hardest thing for me will be not drinking for 2 weeks! Good luck everyone i'm looking forward to doing this together. :)

prettybird · 14/01/2019 10:45

Fail in my Maths Blush

It's 9lb I need to lose to get to my initial target Blush - although 7.5lb would get me to an initial initial target, ie breaking through the 11st barrier Smile

I think the 5lb (half a stone having been calculated on the basis of 5lb+2lb Confused) stuck in my head because I'd put on 5lb Blush

bibliomania · 14/01/2019 10:46

Okay, thanks prettybird. I'd better read the rules again rather than rely on memory.

CassieStuart · 14/01/2019 10:47

I've added in my weight on the spreadsheet but I think something went wrong as it's also showing my total weight loss as -171lbs.

Not sure what I did, and sorry if I've broken the spreadsheet.

venusandmars · 14/01/2019 10:48

Woo hoo! I'm on the spreadsheet, now I feel like I've really started - well that and the avocado for breakfast, followed by bullet proof hot-chocolate (coconut oil, butter, cream, raw cocoa powder, tiny bit of stevia).

I loved the recipe ideas at ruled.me
The recipes have all the macros, and I found it helpful to keep eating high fat.

This pot pizza dipper with keto flatbreads is lovely for a chilly evening in front of the telly, POT PIZZA DIPPER and I also keep some of these bombs in the fridge - great for a wee snack or if I feel the need for a treat with a mug of herbal tea. PEANUT AND COCNUT BALLS

Rshard · 14/01/2019 10:49

I've managed to use the spreadsheet on my laptop.

Weighing in a 156lbs, which means I've managed to put on 12lbs since October - did I mention that I'd be rubbish at the pre-christmas boot camp?

But the line has been drawn and I've had a stern word with myself. I know I feel better, sleep better, have more energy following this woe - the weight loss is an added bonus really.

B - full fat yoghury
L - lots of leaves, cucumber, mayo, cheese and ham
D - hm chicken curry, veg (to be purchased)

W - nearly 1 litre gone already.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 14/01/2019 10:51

Morning everyone. I had a sausage, egg and spinach for breakfast and am on my second litre of water so at least the first quarter day is going well (only 69.75 to go - woohoo!

I don't have to much to lose to get to my target weight, maybe 9/10 pounds, but it's been the same 9/10 pounds for two years now and I'm fed up of only wearing half my wardrobe. I also need to wean myself off the sweet stuff.

Good luck everyone.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 14/01/2019 10:56

Hi, @CassieStuart - looks like you figured it out!

The start date and start weights columns are there to keep track of where people started out - so as I started last year I put that date and my original weight in. Today's weight has gone in today's column.

If you're starting out for the first time, just put today's date and weight in those columns and it will all work out beautifully!

CassieStuart · 14/01/2019 10:59

Thanks to whoever fixed my line in the spreadsheet

Hefzi · 14/01/2019 11:04

Prettybird thanks! I couldn't remember why it gets better - I'm wfh today and tomorrow (which is why I'm on MN [Grin) but luckily, my office is just across from the loo Grin

I'm just having a coffee break - I've only managed 1.2l of water since I started work at 6.30: I think I need to set an alert or something - when I'm in the zone, forget to drink. And blink enough Grin

venusandmars · 14/01/2019 11:06

Oops Blush, I just read BIWI's rules which says to avoid artificial sweeteners, so my bullet proof hot-chocolate and the peanut fat bombs may have to go Sad. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, so maybe I'll try them without any sweetener.

BIWI I assume that rule applies to stevia and erythritol too, if it's about trying to change our palate and expectations?

venusandmars · 14/01/2019 11:10

I'm a newbie to the boot camp, so wondering if any of you bother with keto sticks? I used them last year when I was on a lone HFLC diet, and I found them helpful in showing what I could and couldn't tolerate. For example, I know that most reports say that some alcohols are acceptable e.g. vodka and soda, but I found that any alcohol threw me out of ketosis and knowing that helped to keep me on the straight and narrow.

latebloomingleo · 14/01/2019 11:15

Hello all! I’m very excited about starting this BC having lurked in the past. Think I’ve worked the spreadsheet out.
Been doing BC Lite for the past week with no booze, but some fruit and noticed 3kg or so off since start of the year (will try to start working in lbs).
Like others just want to say thank you to @BIWI and @Athelstanetheunready for organising!

CeciliaMcFlange · 14/01/2019 11:16

Hi all, I've been lc'ing since 1st Jan. Start weight was 154 lbs and am now 147 lbs. I'm really pleased to have found you all and to join this group, I have another 15 - 20lbs before I hit my target weight range. I need to shift the weight for health reasons - need to give my poor joints a break, so am very motivated.

Thanks BIWI and Athelstane for your tech/admin/jollying us all along.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 14/01/2019 11:43

I ranged wider than planned over Christmas and put on 6lbs, even though I was mostly eating HFLC. It was the wine (it's always the wine...), in conjunction with the high fat, and more sugar than intended. Began strictly bootcamp again last week, especially no booze, and can already report:

  • lost 5lbs
  • my cheekbones are back!
  • 1" off waist and hips
  • flatter stomach
  • hugely improved happiness, energy, and all-round positivity
  • wonderful wonderful sleep
  • skin has gone so soft and face an even creamy colour (no more red nose and blotchy cheeks)
  • pores closing up
  • bits of eczema around my hairline almost gone

Also stopping smoking as of today - hoping each health effort will support the others, iyswim.

prettybird · 14/01/2019 11:49

venusandmars - if you're drinking enough water (you are drinking enough water, aren't you? Wink) then ketostix aren't very effective.

We're not trying to go into ketosis per se anyway - we're just trying to get out bodies to become fat adapted.

I like the way someone on Boot Camp once put it: WM

Rshard · 14/01/2019 11:50

Well done on stopping smoking athlestane, my mum did it after smoking for 45 years.

A colleague has a reminder on her phone hefzi it sounds like the descending submarine noise.

prettybird · 14/01/2019 11:51

....posted by accident (cat jumped onto my lap Hmm)

....encouraging our bodies to "dine in" Grin

Threeminis · 14/01/2019 11:55
