January 2019 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 1

Well happy new year!

Here's a sparkling, brand new, Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for us all to get this new Bootcamp off to a good start.

Remember, you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to - and if you don't want to declare your actual weight, you can index it - which means that your starting 'weight' is 100. Then for every pound you lose, you take off one. So if you lose 4lbs in week 1, then your 'weight' starting for week 2 will be 96.

There are over 170 people signed up, so the thread will move very quickly - but please, please, please read all the posts. Don't just jump on and post your own stuff without reading what other people have posted. That's especially the case if you're posting with a question - read the thread to make sure it hasn't already been asked.

Have a good look at the spreadsheet and all the tabs at the bottom, as there's a huge amount of information there - not just the rules, but also the list of vegetable carb counts, and some really interesting reading/videos too.

I hope everything there is clear, but if not - just shout.

Looking forward to getting going!

Morning all from Dublin.
Took measurements & weighed in, I need to lose several inches off waist to reach a healthy waist/hip ratio...and 15lbs! Definitely achievable in 10 weeks.

Todays menu
Bacon, spinach, mushroom eggbites from I.P, 4 of them
Roasted cauli, smoked mackeral, mayo
Chicken alfredo casserole & salad.

Right, off to work..cake maker!!

prettybird · 14/01/2019 09:04

Signing in again too Smile

I'll third the advice to take measurements as they can be immensely motivating. This WoE is excellent for reducing visceral fat, so you should see a great impact in particular on your waist measurement. Plus, as has been said, there will be times when your weight will stall but your measurements are still reducing.

There was a time when I stalled on 11st 4lb (and also fell off the wagon and had to go back "through" that weight Blush), yet lost over an inch off my waist ConfusedSmile

Dh said recently that he read somewhere that you need to lose 8.5 to 10lb per inch off your waist Hmm. That has definitely not been the case with me: I've lost c50lb but have lost c12" off my waist Shock Didn't measure from the start, so the first 6" is based on a belt. Based on the period from which I started measuring, ie actual measurements, I lost 6" while I lost 24lb ShockSmile

Morning everyone.
Stupidly forgot to weigh this morning, dressed now so will do in the morning.

Breakfast is scrambled eggs and asparagus fried in butter. I'm so desperate to do it this time.

Have a lovely Monday!

Condamine · 14/01/2019 09:15

Good morning. I'm checking in too. I'm normally a lurker on these threads but I've decided to get more involved this time as I feel it will be more successful!
I've just got weighed and realised I could actually qualify for the Biggest Loser tv show. Shock

CassieStuart · 14/01/2019 09:15

Weighed myself and made a note and will add to spreadsheet later on, almost as heavy as when my daughter was born 5 years ago / so some work to do!

Breakfast is two hard boiled eggs mixed with fully fat philly cheese.

Almost finished my first 1/2 litre glass of water. Worked out I need 5-6 of these a day which is doable if I get in the habit.

Good luck today everyone

prettybird · 14/01/2019 09:19

Forgot to mention my start weight: 11st 7lb, which is 5lb up on where I'd got to in the Boot Camp before Christmas Blush

But it is still 49lb down on where I started in May 2017 Smile

I've been trying not totally successfully Blush to get back into this WoE for the last week or so and have lost a couple of pounds, so I'm not expecting a great big Whoosh in Week 1. The thing I've had most difficulty with is getting back into the habit of drinking lots of water and reducing the tea with milk.

My target for this Boot Camp is a) to get to a normal BMI (half a stone for that, to 10st 12lb) and b) get to 10st 7lb and then review my targets.

Mandelinka · 14/01/2019 09:20

Just sitting at my dentist, hoping this is my last appointment. My issues started last summer and annoyingly peaked during the last BC so affect my eating
No breakfast yet, will have a brunch instead after the dental

2019IsGonnaBeMyYear · 14/01/2019 09:22

Cassie I'm the same as you! Only 3lb lighter than after giving birth to my youngest, he is now 5 and a half

Been losing and gaining the same stone over and over again. Have 3.5 stone to lose overall so going for a round 50lb loss. Starting with my first 5lb as a small goal.

Looking forward to doing this! Sick of all the faddy diets which obviously aren't working. Looking forward to proper food and some body changes.

Batshittery · 14/01/2019 09:22

Good morning all
Just checking in. Weighed this morning and could do with losing 2 stone but small steps at this stage. Good luck everyone and thank you BIWI Flowers

Doilooklikeatourist · 14/01/2019 09:26

On my first glass of water , and deciding what to have for a late breakfast
Have a stressful day ahead , shopping with DD for a last minute few bits before she goes off travelling to Indonesia

Did really well on the last Bootcamp , and lost a whole stone
The bad news is that 5lb really missed me and came back over Christmas
Start weight ( will do spreadsheet when it’s fixed ) 11 stone 1 lb

GuyMartinsSideburns · 14/01/2019 09:29

Morning all Smile

Will weigh tomorrow morning as I forgot first thing!

Have a good day

YessicaHaircut · 14/01/2019 09:32

Morning all, checking in!

Feeling positive this morning and determined to make it work.

Today’s food:
B: full fat yoghurt, a few blueberries, a boiled egg, cup of tea with Lactofree whole milk.
L: avocado, tuna mayo, chunk of cheddar. Decaf coffee with cream.
S: a few hazelnuts (10ish)
D: baked haddock fillet, leeks cooked in butter mixed with cream and cheese, steamed buttered broccoli. Camomile tea.

I have hypothyroidism and we are ttc, so I’m going to include a very small amount of berries and nuts. If it stalls me I’ll have a rethink!

Current weight 11st 9.6.

Hope everyone has a good first day!

bibliomania · 14/01/2019 09:33

Checking in while I wait for the spreadsheet to allow us entry. FF natural yoghurt for breakfast with chia seed, a teaspoon of flaxseed and some cardamom, plus coffee and cream. Lunch will be some smoked mackerel with salad, and dinner based around broccoli rice.

I've been having a nosy through the cookbook section of the local library looking for lc recipes, and I'm really liking Annie Bell's Low Carb Revolution. The recipes are simple and don't require fancy ingredients, but she's really good at methods, eg. she has a suggestion for chicken breasts (poach in stock at a low temp for 15 mins then fry for another couple of minutes) that makes them juicy on the inside and crispy outside. And the lamb kleftiko, oh my goodness. I'm focusing more on veg this week, but she has some interesting suggestions there too.

Hefzi · 14/01/2019 09:38

Just checking in too.

I struggle with breakfast, so I had already portioned out some Total 5% ready to go (only non fat free yoghurt I can get hold of)
L. Egg mayo and lettuce and celery
D. Vegetable stir fry

I have been trying to get a jump on the water over the weekend - I was up weeing every hour last night, but did manage 5.5l. Today's goal - drink that before 6pm Grin

Have a good day, all!

Cheeseandapple · 14/01/2019 09:43

Just checking in! Morning everyone.

Weighed this morning and am 13.6 stone. Can I ask someone to help me... what is the .6!? Is that oz or lbs? Never sure and feel silly asking. Had fried eggs, halloumi & garlic toms for breakfast with a cup of coffee and a few glasses of water. Off to fill my water bottle up so I can keep an eye on how much I've had to drink.

Is there an amount of carbs to aim below each day or to look for in food per 100g?

nowlook · 14/01/2019 09:45

Spreadsheet seems fine now!

WhatTheFronti · 14/01/2019 09:46

So excited for this!
Have been low carbing since mid dec. so far so good!
Am in Aus so at days end...
B - 1/2 large avo, diced chicken, full fat mayo & coffee with almond milk
L - Mexican beef chili with cheddar & mozerella, side of salad greens
D - chicken thigh in creamy mushroom sauce & small serve green beans

3.2 litres of water (its 40c today so prob should have drunk more!)

Have a lovely day/evening all!

bibliomania · 14/01/2019 09:47

Thanks nowlook, you're right, the spreadsheet works now.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 14/01/2019 09:54

I'm back. Can hopefully last longer than the two weeks I managed last time.

I'll add myself later when the spreadsheet's behaving, but just to make a note, I was 9 st 6.5 this morning. Want to get back down to 8 stone 7 if possible.

Doilooklikeatourist · 14/01/2019 09:54

@bibliomania , a really good way to cook chicken breast is
Using a meat mallet , flatten the chicken breast so it’s about the same thickness all over
Fry in a hot covered pan in butter and / or oil for 10 minutes
Turn off heat and leave for 10 more minutes
Obviously check ( I have a meat thermometer) to make sure , but it should be all lovely and white and succulent juicy

bibliomania · 14/01/2019 09:57

Thanks, Doilook

boldlygoingsomewhere · 14/01/2019 10:01

Morning!
This has come at the right time for me - birthday at the weekend so bit of cake consumed, taken out for lunch. Have woken up with growling stomach which is usually a sign I’ve gone carb-heavy.

Still fluctuating the same half stone though although I’ve managed not to put so much on my trousers don’t fit anymore. I’ve been much more vigilant since last Bootcamp. As soon as things start to feel tight, I know I’ve gone too carby for maintenance and need to dial back.

Laska2Meryls · 14/01/2019 10:07

checking in, Hmm... weight isnt looking so good this morning .. this was because was out for a family birthday meal out over weekend and many carbs were consumed (after a week of LC last week!! ) .

So sad to say I have a stone to go to get back to where I was at the end of last summer BC!! Sad (and ideally Id like to be 7lbs lighter than that ) but I know this works, ..

So far today just coffee, but ill be having buttery eggs in a bit..

Many Thanks Biwi, Athelstane and everyone else who does the admin work on this for us .. Really appreciated ..

bella1426 · 14/01/2019 10:14

Morning all, checking in and good luck with the bootcamp

B - Turkey rashers with spinach and egg mayonaise
L - Lettuce Wraps with Ham and Philadelphia
D - Chicken cooked in cream and pesto with mushrooms and brocolli

Lost a bit before Christmas after PILING on about 5 stone during my pregnancy. Still have a good 2 / 2.5 stone to go so looking forward to chipping away at it with a bit of support and solidarity on this group! Remembering to drink tons of water is something I need to work on. Have 3 x 1 Litre bottles filled and want to have them emptied by the end of the day!

VenusStarr · 14/01/2019 10:19

I can see some people have inputted @nowlook but it's still view only for me on the spreadsheet
