January 2019 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 1

BIWI · 14/01/2019 00:59

Well happy new year!

Here's a sparkling, brand new, Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for us all to get this new Bootcamp off to a good start.

Remember, you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to - and if you don't want to declare your actual weight, you can index it - which means that your starting 'weight' is 100. Then for every pound you lose, you take off one. So if you lose 4lbs in week 1, then your 'weight' starting for week 2 will be 96.

There are over 170 people signed up, so the thread will move very quickly - but please, please, please read all the posts. Don't just jump on and post your own stuff without reading what other people have posted. That's especially the case if you're posting with a question - read the thread to make sure it hasn't already been asked.

Have a good look at the spreadsheet and all the tabs at the bottom, as there's a huge amount of information there - not just the rules, but also the list of vegetable carb counts, and some really interesting reading/videos too.

I hope everything there is clear, but if not - just shout.

Looking forward to getting going!

Feeling so so tired. I've just had some coffee with double cream (I don't even like coffee) to try to perk me up. Annoyingly I've come on my period today (10 days early) so just want to eat stodge and curl up. Still no heating so I can't even have a bath when DH gets in. (i'm feeling sorry for myself Grin )

CassieStuart · 14/01/2019 17:58

Going to make myself pork belly strips tonight - it will feel like a right treat as normally avoid as it's so fatty. Just trying to decide what veggies to have with it and what marinade to make. Ideas welcome!

MrsKoala · 14/01/2019 18:07

I love pork belly roasted in herbs de provence.

MonaChopsis · 14/01/2019 18:20

Checking in... On plan so far though I only eat two meals a day (this is normal for me so I'm not changing for bootcamp!!) I eat brunch at work and an early dinner at home with DD. Really struggling to get my water in after not drinking enough at work today! That's #1 on the list for tomorrow... Will aim to have a bottle of water morning, afternoon and evening and keep a steady intake up!

Darkbaptism · 14/01/2019 18:30

BIWI thanks for the zero noodles reminder, going to get some tomorrow.

B -ff yoghurt
L -omelette
D -meatballs, cauliflower rice (with butter) and salad.

GerrysSuccessor · 14/01/2019 18:32

Today has been:

B- scrambled eggs with avocado fried in butter (I have recently been converted to frying avocado and I can not recommend enough! Delicious!)
L- wasn’t very hungry, this is actually my second week of boot camp so I’m seeing my appetite go. But I knew I’d want to pick later otherwise so had some ham, cheese and a coffee with double cream
D- bolognese sauce with sautéed cabbage instead of pasta while kids and DH had it with pasta.

This is my second boot camp. Lost 50lb 5 years ago but then had another baby and it’s all crept back on. I have a huge incentive this time though, I need a medical procedure that they’ll only do if I lose 15kg in the first instance, and the procedure is more likely to be successful if I continue to lose weight after that (I’m currently 18st. Yikes!)

I actually started boot camp last Monday, although the knowledge that today was the official start meant that last night I allowed myself a couple of roast potatoes and some gravy, and some red wine 🙈 however despite that transgression I think I’m through the carb flu/body demanding sugar stage.

Anyone else notice when they’re lc that for the first week or so they can feel that their muscles aren’t getting the type of energy they’re used to? Everything feels like such hard work. But I went for a big dog walk today and think I’m through that too. 🤞

nowlook · 14/01/2019 18:35

Day 1 done (well, the food and mandatory water part!)
B: Poached eggs and spinach
L: Big Portobello mushrooms stuffed with spinach and full fat cheese with a green salad
D: Courgette and aubergine ratatouille with plenty of chili flakes and parmesan shavings (DH made that; I'm not much of a cook; bloody lovely).

Think I'm going for Greek yoghurt; chicken with leftover ratatouille; tuna and veg omelette with salad tomorrow.

Sparkling water definitely best for me...constant weeing though.

Doilooklikeatourist · 14/01/2019 18:42

Day 1 food all eaten
B buttery scrambled eggs
L stir fried veg , with grated cheese and butter
D pork Loin , cauli cheese ( sauce made with double cream and cheese ) carrots , Brussels and gravy with no thickener
Loads of cold water , a few black coffees and will have a herb tea later
Feeling full 👍

IHeartMarmiteToast · 14/01/2019 18:48

Omg I'm just tucking into a big bowl of slow cooked coconut ginger pork!!! Smazing! 😍😍😍

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 14/01/2019 18:52

Checking in, I did the pre Christmas bootcamp and lost about 6lbs, but I've been so rubbish over Xmas I'm back up about 4lbs. I'm doing it more because carbs and sugar mess up my skin and IBS so if I'm strict I feel so much better, also although I don't weigh that much I'm flabby and think I probably have quite high body fat.
Today I had no breakfast, as I'm used to it now, big salad with avocado egg and chicken, then leftover roast with just the veg and lamb.
Going shopping tomorrow to prep for the week ahead. Hoping to run 5k tonight if DH ever gets home..

Carobaro · 14/01/2019 19:04

I hope I don't get the ‘The Big Stick’ from @BIWI...but was wondering if the whey shake fromThe IPD was permissable during bootcamp? Its quick and filling and low carb from my calculations. I use almond milk, water, and soy protein with a tsp of peanut butter.

nikkidoll · 14/01/2019 19:04

Can I have wine at least 2 nights a week or vodka ?? It says on the sheet you don't recommend but this is my vice I'm ashamed to say 🍷😝😂

Notlostjustexploring · 14/01/2019 19:15

After using a notepad app on my phone to lovingly prepare extensive lists of recipes and meal ideas after trawling the recipe threads, I put my phone through the washing machine...and my notepad app was alas not backed up. * Sigh *

Other than that, bacon eggs and mayonnaise for breakfast, salad for lunch and pork belly with veg for dinner. Although I've eaten many eggy "muffins" today (I'm breastfeeding therefore constantly starving) and struggling to drink enough liquid to meet bootcamp requirements! I'm blaming the tiny demanding human for that!! I'm usually really good at drinking water, so I'm sure I'll catch up before the day is out.

Regarding recipes, one was a gruyère and shallot tart? I will trawl the recipes again, but I was planning to cook that tomorrow so does it ring any bells with anyone if they might have it to hand....?

prettybird · 14/01/2019 19:26

nikidoff - no, not the first 2 weeks. It's only 2 weeks after all and you are trying to get your body to become fat adapted. Alcohol gets in the way of that, as it will use the alcohol as girl instead (rather than "dining in" Wink)

prettybird · 14/01/2019 19:27

Carobaro - avoid the whey shake for the first 2 weeks while we are on strict Boot Camp (no nuts unless you are veggy). After the 1st 2 weeks, they are permissible on Boot Camp Lite.

Methemummy · 14/01/2019 19:35

Can i join you all? if so how do i get myself on the spreadsheet. Having started working from home last year I have seen my weight creep up to 16st. Tried a few diets in the past and low carb always work best for me.

I started low carb diet today, have been hungry today (not uncommon after a busy weekend) but feel like I have eaten too much, just seems so fatty. Now fully stuffed though! Think i have probably ruined it already.

B: bacon, mushrooms, asparagus & fried egg x 2
L: Tuna mayo & salad with olive oil & cheese
D: Spinach & red pepper cheesy frittata & rocket salad.

I work from home & very sedentary so i have decided not to snack unless needed. I do have a sweet tooth and sure i will miss chocolate in the next few days.

Littleorangetree · 14/01/2019 19:45

Today was fine foodwise as I've been following bootcamp since October (with a break for Christmas!) and I'm well into the swing of things now.

BUT I really need to drink more water!!

I haven't weighed myself today, but will do it tomorrow and put it on the spreadsheet. It's my TOTM and feel really bloated.

I've been weighing daily and putting my weight into a spreadsheet (because I love them!) and the graph is one of the main things that keeps me motivated, especially if there's a while where I don't lose anything. I'll try to attach it to show you - the blips at the end are Christmas Grin.

Littleorangetree · 14/01/2019 19:45

Oh, the graph's tiny! Well, maybe you can see it anyway! Grin

Littleorangetree · 14/01/2019 19:49

Hopefully here's a bigger one....

Onlyaprawn · 14/01/2019 19:51

Checking in!
B: Eggs, spinach feta
L: Greek salad
D: Stewed beef with buttery leeks and sprouts

MrsEricBana · 14/01/2019 19:57

Thank you BIWI and AthelstaneTheUnready for doing all this. It is very much appreciated. I have been doing BSD since Oct 19th and lost 16lb but lost my way a bit (lot) over Christmas so need to get back on it and this is really helpful. Have managed the spreadsheet. Good going today everyone! Got lots of ideas from other people's menus too Smile

CassieStuart · 14/01/2019 20:05

Thanks for the suggestion @MrsKoala, I coated the pork belly in herbs and it was yummy! Had it with some green beans and shallots fried in garlic and chilli butter. Feel completely full now. Have also just hit my water target for the day.

Hopefully nothing in next hour or so will through me off track! End of a good first day! (Must resist temptation to weigh myself tomorrow!)

Laska2Meryls · 14/01/2019 20:09

so

buttery eggs with smoked salmon trimmings

small bowl of h/m turkey leek and veg soup (it does have some carrot in but just one for the whole pot which is about 6 portions)

stir fried savoy cabbage with mushrooms ginger garlic spring onion chilli and turkey (I cooked a large turkey leg last night, to make the soup with and for cold meat) drizzled with sesame oil and soy

small bowl of Greek yoghurt 10% with some creme fraiche mixed in..

I feel like I have eaten too much ..

BIWI · 14/01/2019 20:12

@Carobaro

I hope I don't get the ‘The Big Stick’ from @BIWI...but was wondering if the whey shake fromThe IPD was permissable during bootcamp? Its quick and filling and low carb from my calculations. I use almond milk, water, and soy protein with a tsp of peanut butter.

No, not really! On Bootcamp we're aiming to eat fresh, unprocessed food, and you should be eating a proper meal instead of using whey shakes

@nikkidoll

Can I have wine at least 2 nights a week or vodka ?? It says on the sheet you don't recommend but this is my vice I'm ashamed to say 🍷😝😂

No absolutely not! There's a reason why we don't have alcohol in the first two weeks (and why it should be in moderation for the rest of Bootcamp). Alcohol is the easiest source of fuel and your body will burn that in preference to anything else, so all the time you're drinking, you're not burning fat.

And, wine has carbs in it - so don't do it.

@Notlostjustexploring you should able to find that recipe in the recipe threads, stickied at the top of the Bootcamp topic. It's posted, I think, in both meat and vegetarian, as one version has bacon in it but the other doesn't

@Littleorangetree that graph is brilliant! Really inspiring

You're on the sheet, Methemummy, and that's a fantastic first day you've had!

B - double cream coffee & avocado
L - babybels... [embarrassed] really bad planning there - left my massive chopped salad on the side at home
D - broccoli and steak smothered in butter.

Not enough water yet, but only 1/2 litre to go. I can't emphasise enough how good my skin gets on plenty of water and slabs of butter. Packs of butter. The salted Isigny stuff is beyond gorgeous.
