Mad March Fledglings Fly in to action 2020

A warm welcome to the monthly thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) with lots of virtual wine, chat and mutual support along the way. The thread leader of the month will post a link to Flying activities daily. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Very simply, Flylady is a zone-based cleaning system which we follow to varying degrees, depending on our individual homes, circumstances and energy levels. There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and Zone 5. When you first start decluttering, cleaning, and organizing your zones, Flylady encourages you to spend 15 minutes per day decluttering in the current zone.

Each week, we work in a different zone. Each month, we repeat all the zones. After a few months of following this system consistently, you should start to see an improvement in the main areas of your house.

Pop on to the Flylady website to have a closer look about how to get started here but signing up for emails will probably lead to very many landing in your inbox. Also there has been some concern about securely downloading pdfs from the site so proceed with caution.

The Babysteps system is a light 31-day introduction to the system which familiarises you with Flylady routines (such as dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc) and with her philosophy, which emphasises self-care, her abhorrence of perfectionism and the adage that you’re never behind - just jump in where you are at - even if you only do 5 mins work, that is so much better than doing nothing at all!

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour (which most of us find tight!) to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. We've found over the years that the system isn’t brilliant for major decluttering so you might want to supplement with Kondo or another decluttering system. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean and declutter with focus, then stop and do something more interesting instead!

In addition each day has a purpose, see the daily focus here:
Monday: weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week)
Tuesday: plan and play (menu planning, family event planning, doc appts etc)
Wednesday: anti-procrastination day
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clear out purses, bags, cars, date night
Saturday: family fun
Sunday: lift your spirits.

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any qs. And remember, there is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, so feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! And don't be put off by the barftastically twee language of the Flylady site, as the underlying system is sound.

And if/when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our candelit, specially adapted, virtual "naughty" corner where you can retreat and enjoy all manner of lovely things such as fluffy pillows warm blankets, fine teas, strong coffee, and platters of sumptuous foodstuffs offered with lashings of support from fellow fledglings.

There may be mention of Ned (and his cousins Ted and Fred) who started their lives as autocorrections, but who have morphed in to virtual helpers, and are borrowed by thread members from time-to-time when the going gets tough on Mount Washmore.

Most days we pop on to post our "to do" and "ta da" lists of what we’ve managed to do and have a bit of a natter. Please don't compare your list with someone else's as this is all about individual progress.

More info follows (but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them):

** launch pad (general guidance and info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) [[http://www.flylady.net/d/br/2017/09/02/please-explain-the-zones/
here]]

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/zones/
here]] and here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Habit of the month: here

An explanation about the March habit of the month: Getting Dressed to Shoes here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Many thanks to Tinselette from whom I have stolen and adapted quite a bit of this introduction! Flowers

And last, but definitely not least, a huge thank you to Expletive for running a really fast-moving February thread so splendidly Flowers Cake Gin Halo

Signing in! Thanks SC :)

Thank you expletive too, for February.

I think I may actually be ready to try missions this month. Even if just a very feeble attempt. It’ll build up gradually. Want to get my control wall up and running ready for tomorrow as well.

Also I think I will try and do the zones as well - I guess the missions do that automatically, but I can try a little zone decluttering too. Probably not even fifteen minutes! I seem to go over the edge into flare up pain very easily at the moment. In any case I do need to focus on the living room early this month as we have two visits coming up (family support worker and nursery nurse from HV team) - neither of them would judge, but it’s got to hovel status and I’m embarrassed! The hallway and stairs are a death trap too.

Morning fledglings!

I won't be posting links in this detail every day, but to start everyone off for the month of March (and in case we have newcomers lurking) here we go ...

The baby-step for 1st March 2020 is here (scroll down)
We are in Zone 1, the Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room this week (unusually for the entire week but we get a bonus relaxation mission on Friday).
The Detailed Cleaning List for Zone 1 is: here
The habit of the month of March is getting dressed to shoes
Any other information: launch pad link here

Have a productive start to the week everyone!

Morning all.

Planning the missions for the week in flylady “adapt it to suit your home” style! Will try and do this every Sunday to make sure I do them.
Monday - sort the epic shoe pile - will delegate to Caglets, after school so DD1 can join in. Will get them to look out for any chuckable pairs. I’ll declutter the end of the banister where coats get hung up (we can’t get to the coat hooks or the shoe drawers ATM due to DSD’s stuff in the cupboard! So just have to make do for now) and hang one coat each back up.
Tuesday - we don’t have a dining room but the living room table is a massive hotspot so we will do that - clear and clean it after school so the Caglets can both help.
Wednesday - clear off windowsill and move plants back from kitchen, will water/remove dead leaves too.
Thursday - hotspot at the bottom of the stairs, will have to fit this in earlier in the day
Friday - Epsom salt bath once we are home from planned day out
Will also try and do 15min decluttering in the hallway every day. I’m not sure that will make much of a dent 😳

Must take meds, get vaguely dressed and change the toddler then I’ll have a think of today’s to do list. I feel half motivated and half overwhelmed 😅

I am so tired

Baby ds up 130-3
Then 4-5
Up for day just after 6

I definitely need a nap today

Report
LaneBoy · 01/03/2020 09:37

Oh no that 😣 hope you can rest today.

Well I’ve had plenty of time resting on the sofa while I rewrote the to do list! Was writing it on here when it refreshed and deleted it all 🤬 must remember to put it in my phone notes first time instead, which also makes it easier to refer to during the day without getting distracted on MN!

So... to do
🔰more laundry including putting away by the end of the day
🔰air out every room of the house
🔰check if it’s recycling this week (get Caglets to bring bin back round if not) 😳
🔰future friend (will try and do some earlier as DH usually struggles in the evening on Sundays - that’s when he takes his osteo meds and they make him feel rubbish)
🔰15 mins decluttering hallway
🔰15 mins decluttering living room (I know it’s a later zone but it’s so bad and we have visitors in the next couple of weeks so I’m doubling up)
🔰stick weekly control wall sheets up and write tasks we’ve got so far (not much)
🔰type/print future friend list so far and stick on wall
🔰find and screenshot some nursery pics on website (obv without other kids in!) for Now and Next board
🔰choose/print more maths work for DS, collate and staple into 10 page weekly workbooks
🔰gather person/country of the week sets DS has done, staple into books (also checking he’s not left any out which he will need to catch up on)
🔰make sure DD has packed school bag
🔰whites wash for school shirts (DH will be ironing)
🔰quick counter tidy/clean while DH washing up
🔰PotW/CotW sheets for this week
🔰arrange with friend about starting paired study stuff tomorrow with her DS (English plus maybe others)
🔰find out and tell friend where DS got up to with chemistry so same friend can catch up (then they can do science together too in future)
🔰plan tomorrow’s phone calls
🔰everyone showered and nit checked
🔰pay for chess club
🔰DD1 maths homework
🔰print and plan (with her input) DD1’s chore and homework chart for the week
🔰decide finally on readaloud and find book (meant to do this last week 😳)
🔰choose (and check for missing pieces) a couple of small simple games for Solihull play themed session next week (some of you may recall board games are my obsession so I will enjoy this 🤓😄)
🔰wrap DSS’ present (also a game, he shares the same interest!)
🔰Solihull write up (may just make phone notes for today)
🔰ACEs write up (ditto)
🔰Solihull homework
🔰ACEs homework
🔰write up “forgotten stuff” from therapy (barely anything, which shows how well the meds work now! 😂❤️)
🔰journal including February summary/hopes for March as I was too tired last night
🔰go through charity clothes pile and dig out older girl stuff for a friend
🔰remind DH about bank transfer
🔰write St. John Ambulance dates from letter into diary
🔰find ballet show/workshop dates and write in diary
🔰art time to relax (tattoo design related)
🔰discuss fees with DH and email ballet teacher about costumes etc
🔰discuss how we can make Tuesdays easier as both of us are now doing Difficult Stuff at the same time and we are both a bit of a wreck by the afternoon 😐
🔰dessert date at the pub with DH ❤️assuming DSD can babysit - need to arrange this around a couple of brief visitors

Best get on really 🤯🤯🤯 am very aware it is overly ambitious so some may end up transferred to another day/week/multiverse dimension!

Thanks for last month Expletive and for this month SC

Apologies for absence. Have just finished mega clean of zone 5 ( living/dining for me) today

Zone 1 for me is upper and lower hall and cloakroom. Will need to give doors and skirtings a scrub. Our hall is the width of the front door initially with cloakroom off it and then there is a door leading into an inner hall with stairs and door to living/dining/kitchen. Sounds massive but it's not so the walls get filthy.

Fixed two door handles and squeaky doors so very pleased.

Sorry to hear news of man child and non sleeping baby that 💐

🤣🤣🤣 SC I was reading your introduction and thought gosh I should base my intro next time on this - I honestly didn't recognise any of it!! If you found my previous intro useful just use away!

I'm breaking up zone 1 into parts over the week. Husband is ironing so off to help him put away clothes.

Expletive thank you for Feb thread.
SC thank you for doing March thread. What a relief for no more visitors for a while.
That your "D"H needs a kick up the arse for sure. I hope you get your nap today.
lane those lists are amazing, don't get overwhelmed with them though.

Yesterday I sprayed oven cleaner in the oven (obviously!)before work, and wiped it out after work. Still a couple tough spots so resprayed it and will wipe it out again. I need to see if I can find that pink stuff here, although doubtful.
Today I will be going grocery shopping, once I get motivated to get dressed. I'll need to get some meal prep done for the week before I go to work this afternoon. I do need to s+s bathroom too so really should get moving. (Almost 11am here!)

Ah thanks hazel :) so much of the list is very small things, I often feel like they wouldn’t even occur to most people as a Thing That Needs Mentioning but meh, I need to work that way.

Just had a brief date with DH as Cagletini fell asleep. Nice to get away but he’s really not himself at all. Trying to just accept that it’s going to be like that for a while.

Quite tired since getting home and enjoying the YouTube videos DS is watching (Rube Goldberg machines), Cagletini woke up in a bad mood too. Will crack on in a bit - DD asked to watch a Harry Potter film so I’ll probably disappear upstairs to continue the other stuff at that point, since I’m not fussed about watching it again.
