From Bette Davis, who was too canny to name names. smile

Here is the old thread:

And Mueller, who is equally canny.

Sorry for jumping the gun there, Lion!

I've put a link to this thread on the one I started.

It's almost time for Rachel here. I sure hope she can make some sense about today's goings on!!!

TheClaws Sat 19-Jan-19 01:57:40

Thanks for the new thread lion. I hope I didn’t add to the confusion, Across!

Trump is of course jumping all over the Mueller team message. I don’t see it as an all-out denial, but aimed aimed a specific issue in the Buzzfeed article. MAGAts are have the opportunity to hee-haw over it, but I don’t think it will last.

TheClaws Sat 19-Jan-19 02:02:31

Buzzfeed stands by its reporting:

Thanks lionheart. I don’t post much because I don’t know much. But I know a hell of a lot more than I previously did because of these threads.

UnsureOfOutcome Sat 19-Jan-19 07:14:49

Hey - longtime lurker, first-time poster. Just wanted to say how much I appreciate these threads - both the aggregation and the analysis. Many an early morning conversation in our house begins with me saying "well, according to the Mumsnet thread..."! thanksthanks

Interesting thread on Twitter. It's true, what is this docility that means workers from all walks of life are obliged to go in to work knowing they won't be paid for their time and effort? Why the hell aren't they rioting against Trump?
vanessa a. bee

thinking this morning about the incredible docility of the american workforce. can’t imagine 46,000 french civil servants showing up to work unpaid. there’d be strikes, riots, and guillotine installations at roundabouts. are you kidding me

I think you can read the whole thread there. Apologies if this has already been discussed on the last thread, I missed it. Oh, and thank you for the braggadociously bigly covfefe great #90th thread, lionheart. Double #45, is that an omen?

Roussette Sat 19-Jan-19 07:35:21

Hi borntobequiet and Hi UnsureOfOutome, it's good to hear we have posters in the background, believe me born I really don't know much and it's the same for me, these threads are invaluable grin

And lion thanks for aptly named thread!

Even Ivanka is rattled.... good..

Minimammoth Sat 19-Jan-19 07:49:11

Just joining the thread.

TheNorthWestPawsage Sat 19-Jan-19 08:45:27

Thanks for the new thread lion and Hello and welcome to all!
Maybe Mueller's office is trying to down play the Buzzfeed news because it could actually be very close to the truth and they don't want Individual 1 and his cronies to be spooked? (Hopeful)

MerdedeBrexit Sat 19-Jan-19 09:01:31

More heartlessness.
Arizona women convicted for kindness to migrants though that's not what the judge called it

And May is looking at axeing the Human Rights Act after Brexit, apparently. I despair of the human race. Well, their political leaders, anyway. What a future. angry sad

Roussette Sat 19-Jan-19 09:08:58

I read that Mueller only disputed a small part of the Buzzfeed news. I have that man on such a pedestal grin

TheNorthWestPawsage Sat 19-Jan-19 09:12:45

From Daniel Dale - good source for fact checking DT.

The Washington Examiner article the president is quoting is very bad. The “prayer rugs” claim was made by a single rancher who would not allow her name used and who apparently provided the journalist no evidence.

It’s also worth noting every time that the president is making an ongoing effort to stoke fear of Muslims.

Here's a defense of this story from a Washington Examiner person. I think it is a very bad defense.

There is a long history of evidence-free "prayer rugs at the border" claims.

‘Inaccurate’ isn’t the same as false. Buzzfeed’s reporting implies that there was clear evidence that Trump had committed a criminal offense which would require immediate action from congress. From what Mueller says that isn’t the case.

However it’s suspicious that Trump’s initial response was witness intimidation (tweets about Cohen’s father in law).

Obviously we don’t know all the facts about Cohen, but it’s really strange that Trump’s apparent tactic is to threaten to stop concealing his knowledge of criminal activities carried out by an employee/employee’s family.

Normal for a mobster, not for a president.

Lweji Sat 19-Jan-19 09:24:59

Why the hell aren't they rioting against Trump?

Yes! Or Democrats. In fact, against the whole Washington set up that allows things as Government shut downs.

Thanks for the new thread. 🖒
No danger of thread shutdowns here.grin

TheNorthWestPawsage Sat 19-Jan-19 09:30:43

Because it's the weekend...

Casting for “All The President’s Men II” complete.

TheNorthWestPawsage Sat 19-Jan-19 09:57:39

The "President's" public schedule for this weekend. Good to see that they're still living in the past. The incompetence never fails to disappoint.

Wordthe Sat 19-Jan-19 10:25:12

Is it just me or is there more talk of impeachment?
I'm peachy keen for impeachment, it'll be peachy dory

Lweji Sat 19-Jan-19 10:43:56

While public workers go without salaries for a wall, tunnels.
Some of the press seem to make a point of talking about it, for some reason.

lionheart Sat 19-Jan-19 11:35:48

Sorry, Across I was a bit slow and tired and it was late in the day.

Hello to borntobe quiet and UnsureofOutcome.

I think that Mueller runs a really tight ship (who's want to spill something, even accidentally and have to face him?) so it is more likely to be SDNY leak.

lionheart Sat 19-Jan-19 11:42:37

Vanity Fair (although I see Ronan Farrow says on the twitter that he passed on the Buzzfeed story)

Thanks for the new thread Lion. That's 90 threads in 2 years. shock

Welcome to everyone who reads the threads.

I'm thoroughly confused now and a little worried that the misinformation wars have been dialled up a notch. sad
