What are ADs?

Here's the copy and paste job...

Definition of AD
^AD stands for anti dementor.
There are creatures in Harry Potter called dementors, who suck all hope and happiness from you and eventually take your soul. Way back at the start of the pandemic thread after thread was posted on by posters like this and anyone who'd dare question anything or disagree with anything (like putting cheese in your coffee) was bullied off these threads. And so any actual discussion disappeared and it became an echo chamber of misery.

We are the antidote to that. We follow the rules, but not the "roolz" and we question and discuss with respect to each other. It's all very civil.

I sat in a tea room this afternoon it was lovely to be indoors againSmile

Worldgonecrazy · 17/05/2021 18:03

Can’t wait to eat indoors at a proper restaurant again. Roll on weekend!!

Worldgonecrazy · 17/05/2021 18:05

So the conspiracy theorists get proved right again.

ISaySteadyOn · 17/05/2021 18:13

I went to a cafe today. Twas lovely! Also, thank you for all your finger crossing! DS has a place in a new school. I am determined to be more like you lot in getting his needs met. You are all good examples and I wish I could give you all a hug.

NeedWineNow · 17/05/2021 19:17

Checking in!

TabbyStar · 17/05/2021 19:39

Hello. I went to the gym but forgot my mask for walking in and walking out but no one seemed bothered! I'd have loved to go and sit inside a cafe today but too busy with work. Maybe tomorrow!

DrRamsesEmerson · 17/05/2021 19:41

Marking place before I lose you all again! Thanks for the new thread.

I was meant to have a drink with two old friends on Thursday. They’re both so excited about being able to meet without being soaked or frozen that it’s morphed into a posh dinner out Smile.

flower11 · 17/05/2021 21:13

Aww Isay hope everything works out well for your son in his new school x

LivinLaVidaLoki · 18/05/2021 06:47

Hi all! I've got a pub tea booked tonight. Can't wait. I've to get through an economics exam and a governors meeting first though.

Favourite restaurant booked for Saturday. I'm never taking eating our for granted again. Especially in smaller independent pubs and restaurants. Use em or lose em.

In other news I'm fucking shattered today. Woke up at 2am and didn't get back to sleep til after 5. Usually I can listen to a mindfulness podcast and switch my overactive brain off. But I can't find my earphones.

So after a bit, thought I'd read my kindle. And my beloved kindle is broken. It just won't switch on. So now I'm tired and fed up. But I can see the pub at the end.

LemonCake79 · 18/05/2021 09:52

DD had a friend round last night. It was so nice to have an extra person at the dinner table. Booking the cinema and a pizza for this weekend. Yippee.

@LivinLaVidaLoki, how old is your kindle? Amazon do sometimes replace them even outside the warranty... at least they used to. I'd be heartbroken. My kindle is one of my very favourite things.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 18/05/2021 09:56

@LemonCake79 I think I'd be pushing my luck....I've had it about 11 years, when the first paperwhites came out. I love my kindle so much. Ordered a new one click and collect at Curry's.

mightbealittlebitmad · 18/05/2021 10:46

I'm going out tonight to sit in a pub inside at a table! I'm semi excited but my husband has voiced his disapproval because I'm meeting a male friend and he's worried I'm going to end up sleeping with him or something. I wanted to get a bit dressed up in something other than jeans, a hoody and Uggs but I know it's going to cause tension because he disapproves of the outfits I wear when I go out with my female friends, let alone the male friend.

We started walking together during lockdown with the kids but apparently that was romantic and weird despite the fact we couldn't do anything else. Now we can do other stuff he's still not happy.

I feel a bit flat now because he is clearly unhappy with me going and if I go I'm ignoring his feelings.

LemonCake79 · 18/05/2021 11:07

Oh, yes, that doesn't owe you anything @LivinLaVidaLoki. Grin

Enjoy your new kindle. I'm on my second after the original one with a keyboard and no backlight gave up. The paper white felt like a significant upgrade after that one.

Iheartmysmart · 18/05/2021 16:36

I had one of the original kindles with the keyboard. I knelt on it accidentally when on holiday a few years ago and cracked the screen. Absolutely gutted. I’m nowhere near as fond of my replacement one.

BogRollBOGOF · 18/05/2021 16:47

I still like books, although my reading in the past year has been so poor I've only made it to The Deathly Hallows. There are so many bits with reference to the Ministry of Magic that sound horribly contemporary!

I have got The Ickabog that needs starting. It's my 40th birthday present that I found in the car 6 weeks after my birthday as DH forgot to give it to me! 🤦‍♀️

I've still got an original keyboard Kindle. It needs charging quite often but is otherwise still going strong. (I hope I haven't jinxed it)

They must be going to bring out some new version, or maybe several, fairly soon and I'm hoping to hold on until something amazing, and cheap (optimist!), turns up.

Curlygirl06 · 18/05/2021 18:48

There you go, swans swimming not sleeping! They only have 4 this year, last year they had 7 and 6 survived.
The Canada geese were a bit twitchy when we walked past and it looks like more eggs are being incubated on the islands. Mind you, the heron was stalking the banks looking for unattended babies, someone said that it had a duckling last week.

Love my new kindle. Got it on click and collect at curry's. Confident I smashed the exam and ate so much at the pub I feel like I'm gonna pop.

Today has been one of the best days in a long time.

MrsEWeatherwax · 18/05/2021 20:37

Just checking in. I hugged my DP’s and had a cry. My DM cried too. How sad is that. My DD has been four times since yesterday Blush.
My other DD has had a second vaccine, she was very brave. Roll on June.

Ah that is lovely @MrsEWeatherwax catch up time for sure.

Well after foray yesteray to restaurant, today picked up two grandkids from school treated them to italian ice cream in a cafe, then spent an hour in the park talking to other parents grandparents we were all having a grand time. Tomorrow I will be out again too...

MrsEWeatherwax · 18/05/2021 21:30

I’ve been out shopping everyday since we were allowed Blush.
I’m just going out because I’m allowed, I know we will be back in lockdown because people like me are going out. But I just don’t care anymore.
I would love an Italian ice cream what a lovely grandma, you are.
I keep looking for the cygnets at our local park, but I can’t see them, plenty beautiful swans though.
Our hospital has 6 patients with COVID and 2 of them are in ICU. It’s not going to get better than that.
