Im up to Chapter 5 of The State Of Fear My God reading it is like coming home!

justasking111 · 20/05/2021 23:38

Grandson swimming lessons proper started again but only 20 mins allowed coz of ze roolz. The younger one goes with mummy and gets twice as long in the pool. It really beggars belief.

I cannot face reading that just now. What I have taken away from this pandemic is how badly educated so many people are, how gullible and easier to herd than sheep.

Absolutely. What astounds me too is a lack of awareness or perspective of people's reactions. For instance, I was reading a thread the other day, something like "Indian variant. Why the panic" and so many posts going on about "exponential growth", "the nhs is on its knees" and "have you seen what's happening in India".

I was gobsmacked to read post after post of "I don't see any panic op. Its all in your head" that thread alone was full of it but no one can see.

My own personal favourite "people aren't panicking, they are just cautious"

I swear mask-wearing is going to kill my DM, yet she's so worried about authority that she won't just not bother. She's 88 and has severe COPD, and she struggles with walking. She went to fill her car with petrol (I would have done it if she'd asked me), got to the door of the petrol station, realised her mask was in the car, walked back to the car to get her mask, went in to pay, got back outside and was so breathless she had to stop. A man had to help her back to her car, and she said it took over half an hour for her to get her breath back once home. Yet she's worried about what people will say if she doesn't wear a mask. It's ridiculous.

We've been back for a few weeks. They get the full half hour but having been in the building to get them changed (one item of clothing only allowed) I then have to wait outside and watch them through a window. This is despite the venue being huge and the (massive) cafe that is next to the pool being closed. Confused
RockaLock · 21/05/2021 07:41

DS2 has a hospital appointment next week.

The appointment letter is full of covid guidelines, but these ones stood out:

"All patients and visitors will be required to wear face coverings" - fair enough, except they forgot to add "unless exempt" Hmm

"In line with Government guidance, we would also encourage you to wear face covering from when you leave your house until you arrive at the department". WTAF. Is it really government guidance to wear a face mask at all times outside your house? No? I didn't think so either. So why is the NHS putting this in their letter?

BogRollBOGOF · 21/05/2021 08:03

My two got "lucky" with their swimming. They still get their 30 mins and have been back when permitted since Sept. It's a large public centre with 3 pool spaces. For DS2, I go in, he strips, I go to the spectator area and he can use changing after. DS1 is supposed to go in around the back of the building, stip poolside, then put his outer layers back on over wet trunks. Fortunately both lessons are at the same time so I bring DS1 with me as that system is not suitable for a child struggling with ASD/ sensory issues and dyspraxia, and I'm not playing at the book leaving him around the outside of the far end of the building while I'm dealing with DS2 inside for longer.

I've woken up and it's like a leafy incarnation of November outside. I'd love to just go for a swim today, but that's just not practical (I'm not a member and miss the days of just turning up at a public pool)

The NHS seeks to have had several lapses on understanding guidence which is rather concerning!

I cannot understand why more people are not angry. The government are not hiding their manipulation and propaganda or the loopholes they are creating to allow their lives to carry in as normal. The government are laughing at us.

Why are people not more angry when all of this is being done in plain sight?

How can it be a conspiracy theory when this is all public domain knowledge?

Worldgonecrazy · 21/05/2021 09:39

Does anyone know what Wales is like ? Venturing to Cardiff today for some shopping

justasking111 · 21/05/2021 13:27

Well 28 cases and 3 deaths. We are killing more here than in England if you believe the shit being churned out.

Anyone else really struggling with never having the house to themselves? Husband has been working from home since last March. Company keep dithering about returning to office. I work part time so was used to having bursts of time to myself before fetching the children from school. I got so much done, both jobs and just things for myself. My craft room has been taken over and it was my sanctuary. Now I just do nothing. Fed up with hearing, "I'm on a call" and not being allowed to hoover etc. Fed up with hearing all said calls booming throughout the house as he's like Dom Jolly "I'm on the train". Fed up with awful weather. Fed up with not being able to do my hobbies. No motivation to do anything beyond existing.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/05/2021 18:09

I get that @Pleasenomoreglitter

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/05/2021 18:10

Anyone else think this hysterical fear and doom mongering isn't going to go anywhere until they stop publishing daily cases.

justasking111 · 21/05/2021 18:26

OH hung around most of the day because of the weather, I was looking forward to a movie this afternoon and a bit of peace, no chance. I feel guilty because it is not anyones fault that we are getting on each others nerves. @Pleasenomoreglitter

I went on BBC forecast for next few days, cold, wet, windy, with the chance of an occasional burst of sunshine. I then looked at Spain, Portugal weather wise. Sunny warm weather 24c just what I like, gawd now I am really peed off.

Agree. People have no sense of probability.

And @Pleasenomoreglitter, you are not alone. The best gift I got for my birthday this year was three hours by myself in the house.

110APiccadilly · 21/05/2021 19:15

Hello all. Lovely kitten!

We've just spent a couple of days with my in-laws, so I'm now a complete convert to lockdown. Only kidding, I'm reasonably fond of them, particularly FIL, who I have more interests in common with than MIL. They were delighted to spend time with us DD, which was great.

NannyGythaOgg · 21/05/2021 20:21

The newly identified 'Yorkshire' variant is producing more fun than fear on the Covid board. Very definite change of tone.

ISaySteadyOn · 21/05/2021 20:34

That sounds like good news. Is it?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/05/2021 20:42

@NannyGythaOgg I saw that. I laughed so hard at some of those responses.

Well yes... but DH has been in the office this week due to network issues... I have cracked on with a deep clean of the hall with lots of noisy vacuuming and have been pressure hosing today. They wouldn't have got done in his presence.

I have kind of missed him though Blush
We keep to ourselves in the day but there have been moments that I've wanted to tell him about something straight off and I've had to wait well into the evening and then he's tired. He also often works long hours (and is short staffed with a big project on) and that's a bit easier with him in, particularly for dinner time.

Normally I'd be in and out more and helping school during the day, and the days have felt longer for missing that. And just the general demotivated flatness that seems to have got so many people.

I have LOVED getting my car the right way round on the drive though. I've really missed the 9 point turn to get her parked neatly to face the right way. With his car in near permanent residence on the drive, mine only slots in skew-wiff and it's a pain to walk past.

It's practice for retirement! Drove my DM up the wall my DF being home all the time. I've sometimes felt sorry for myself being single and alone a lot but I'm glad I'm not stuck in with someone else.

Pleasenomoreglitter · 22/05/2021 09:37

@BogRollBOGOF network issues you say.... wonder how I could engineer such an issue 😂
@TabbyStar this is actually making me seriously concerned about retirement. Although the way things are going with pension ages etc, could see that being vanishingly short anyway.
