I plan to be very busy in retirement... rambling... WI... Trefoil Guild.... I shall replace the playhouse with a lovely shed Grin

Plus we've got a nice big age gap so statistically as I slow down, I should get the house to myself and fit in one generation of being crazy cat lady.

I've got it sussed Grin

He's just announced they're allowed to go in once a week now! I'd rather it was more, but at least I can come home from work once a week and have peace to do as I please at long last. I'll take that for now. I think I'm much less tolerant having been in almost the whole time in school either for the keyworker/ vulnerable groups or when schools have been in anyway. I just don't have the same level of fear and reluctance to mix that he has. He's also very much a "must obey rules at all times" sort, which doesn't help.

Watched the Eurovision at my parents tonight. I LOVE this.

BogRollBOGOF · 23/05/2021 19:49

Had quite a decent weekend. The glitzy moment was eating in at McDonalds (no meltdowns over being asked to remove rubbish from the car Grin )

Once again it was lovely having the sociable atmosphere of junior parkrun back which is the best food for my soul at the moment.

Been for a walk with friends (normal for us, good to have the quiet places back) and I was feeling grotty due to hormones and she was feeling slightly fragile due to her vaccine so we were well matched. Hopefully it should boost her social confidence Smile

I met with friends today and we hugged. One is going back to her home country now lockdown is over and she can fly back. She went to hug dd too and she backed away. She has had a year of being told don't touch, stay away, having people literally jumping out of her way cause children equals disease vectors. She now needs to get back to learning normal interactions.
It's rather sad what we have done to children and teens.

ISaySteadyOn · 24/05/2021 09:39

Aaaargh! DS' bubble at his new school already burst. He has a stinking cold (remember those?) so I was keeping him home today anyway but I really wanted him to go this week.

Worldgonecrazy · 24/05/2021 09:46

Buggeration to burst bubbles !

I am willing to bet none of those kept off return a positive test or any symptoms.

I’m really struggling to see why we are still treating covid 19 as if it was a disease with a high IFR? Can anyone explain words of two syllables and please don’t say ‘to protect the NHS’ because (a) it’s bollox and (b) we have never thought the nhs worth protecting before.

ISaySteadyOn · 24/05/2021 14:35

No clue. Because people lack perspective?

BogRollBOGOF · 24/05/2021 14:59

I'm just hoping that we're killing time while the vaccinations storm on.

We were due to have our second ones in about 3 weeks, but DH's has been brought forwards to later this week. Mine was 5 days after and if mine gets shifted by the same amount, we'll be away next week and I'll have to rearrange.

We're not far from a hotspot, but it's stayed contained in a very localised area and the wider area has continued its gentle reduction in cases.

Worldgonecrazy · 24/05/2021 20:33

@MercyBooth I suspect there are external pressures to make that number as low as possible, probably the opposite of the methodology used to estimate deaths when government wanted to scare us.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/05/2021 06:31

@MercyBooth
And they were in hospital for another reason altogether.......

Maybe the slogan should have been "Stay Home, Stay away from the NHS, Save Yourselves"

LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/05/2021 06:34

Yet if you post that article over there you would get responses explaining that it happened because hospitals are overrun and poorly ventilated and it couldn't be helped.
Which makes no sense. Either one covid death is too many or it isn't.

blobby10 · 25/05/2021 08:19

Getting extremely frustrated/confused/angry with it all now - what is the point of vaccinations when you still have to isolate when returning from holiday? Still have to isolate when in contact with an infected person? Still have to wear muzzles/socially distance everywhere? When the hell is it going to bloody stop? Are we flattening the sombrero now? Or reducing hospital admissions? Or trying to eradicate the bloody virus from the world before we can get back to normal? The vulnerable/elderly/most at risk have been vaccinated and therefore won't put pressure on the NHS IF they get ill - why are we still being forced into all the other measures?
Not to mention the poor people in places like Bolton and Leicester with the 'new' variant! Is it just me? Why aren't people starting to question these anomalies?

RockaLock · 25/05/2021 08:49

I am clinging to the hope that they are only keeping all the rules in place re: self isolation etc until all UK adults have been offered the vaccine, in order to prevent a "two-tier" society of the (mostly older) fully vaccinated who can do what they like and the (mostly younger) unvaccinated who can not.

Otherwise it just does not make any sense at all.

The "avoid travelling to Bolton" guidance worries me, though - it's a step back towards local lockdowns, isn't it, and does make me wonder whether we will ever get our old lives fully back.

Puppylucky · 25/05/2021 08:50

Hello
I haven't posted on this thread before, but I'm so incensed that I have to put this somewhere and I know that you all are kindred spirits. My DH had his 2nd AZ Jab on Saturday and came out clutching a bit of paper regarding side effects. On the back of the paper was a table comparing risks of C19 with risks of the Jab by age group . As might be expected, the risk equation was weighted more towards catching Covid as age increased. What made me furious though was the language employed - so that risk of mortality amongst 50+s from Covid was described as high. Not comparatively high vs younger age groups, but high in absolute terms. This is a total distortion of the truth on an official document. I don't know where to put my anger and frustration about this (DH supremely uninterested as he hadn't even bothered reading the bumf) so I thought I'd put it here. Apologies in advance!

WouldBeGood · 25/05/2021 08:52

I’m worried about the continuing restrictions despite vaccinations too. It really is never ending.

Nicola Sturgeon has made a law to attempt to stop travel to Bolton etc from Scotland. It’s really terrifying, if unenforceable. Glasgow still in lockdown for hospitality and indoor meeting.

Will it ever end?

GarlandaChynoweth · 25/05/2021 09:17

@Puppylucky I spotted this too. I work with statistics and thought it was bloody shocking really.

blobby10 · 25/05/2021 09:51

PuppyLucky and GarlandaChynoweth its all down to keeping the fear going. The 'Sadly Death' figures were never put into context - ever! And now many many people (including my previously sane and rational father) are totally paranoid about getting Covid because they believe it will certainly lead to death!

WouldBeGood I agree! Its very concerning

Worldgonecrazy · 25/05/2021 11:20

The ‘get your jab and you will be free’ was a lie from the beginning but lots of people fell for it.

Events held across the UK to trial bringing back mass gatherings have so far yielded positive results, with just 15 people reportedly contracting Covid-19 out of roughly 60,000 who took part

It should be shouldn't it!

I've tried for a long time through this to just stick to simple data like that but it's increasingly incongruous against the tone of the media and politicians.

All I can do is hope that it's just posturing to stall until June 21st and "encouraging" low risk age groups to get vaccinated. I'm emotionally spent now. The shit weather is not helping, but I can't even muster the enthusiasm to take up the crumbs of freedom now. Last summer I did make the most of what we could do, but there's nothing fresh for this year on the immediate horizon, and I've lost all enthusiasm for anything. It's all the little "Covid Secure" measures permeating everything grinding away. I'm so weary now and this is normally my zingy time of year when I've revovered from winter.

And were they in isolation ten days before and ten days after
LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/05/2021 14:37

@justasking111
nope. I think most of them had a LFT before attending but after that, get on with business as usual. Of course they were held waaaay before May 17th so "business as usual" was still pretty restricted.
