Crappy Christmas films! An appreciation thread.

Is anyone else out there watching all the shit Christmas films on the telly at the moment?

I found a personal highlight yesterday in My Christmas Inn, notable for its extremely clunky product placement for Balsam Hill.

And obviously anything starring Melissa Joan Hart or Danica Mckellar is going to be fabulous.

Please tell me it's not just me!

It’s not just you.

But I’m saving mine till closer to Christmas.

I am going to make a watchlist for myself (and DH if he wants to join in) of Christmas films to watch in the lead up to Christmas. I’m going to keep an eye on this thread for suggestions. grin

We watched the animated The Grinch on Saturday. I enjoyed it far more than the original but that’s probably because Jim Carey makes me want to stab myself in the face.

Me! Loving watching the Hallmark style Christmas films when I see them on tv, it makes me feel festive (even if it is only November!). I love them.
I haven’t got a specific one to recommend as I never remember their titles!

JustAPassingFashion Wed 11-Nov-20 09:04:57

It's not just you. One a night from the first of December in this house (plus any I can sneak in in November...)
The cheesier and more predictable the better, extra points if they star somebody you vaguely recognise, which leads to a quick IMBD search. They were usually in Saved by the Bell or something similar grin

SummerHouse Wed 11-Nov-20 09:07:45

@justAPassingFashion I am just packing a bag. Do I need bedding / airbed?

That Balsam Hill reference was hilarious- I'm so glad someone else noticed. I'm looking forward to part 2 of the Princess switch or whatever it is called appearing as some of it was filmed in Edinburgh.

I am addicted to this kind of film and we can't be the only ones as they keep churning them out. I'm watching earlier than usual I think- i need the cheer. I also watched Christmas with the kranks the other day which I love.

Have you watched the Christmas Prince films on Netflix?

muddledmidget Wed 11-Nov-20 09:10:54

I love the channel 5 Christmas films, Dean Cain is in nearly all of them. Plus they're available on 5 on demand all year round!

Twilightstarbright

Have you watched the Christmas Prince films on Netflix?

Yes to all of these films, I think 3 now? Cheesy goodness.

DMCWelshcakes Wed 11-Nov-20 09:31:23

Hurrah! My people! Bless you all and your low festive standards! grin

@JustAPassingFashion I think Saved by the Bell and its contemporaries are the official training ground for the Hallmark Vaguely Familiar Actors Academy.

@SummerHouse haha, no we can sort that out.
In fairness, we could just make camp in the lounge and up it to 3 films a night.

JustAPassingFashion Wed 11-Nov-20 09:35:39

@DMCWelshcakes absolutely.
And if you weren't in Saved by the bell they'll still let you audition, just as long as you look a little bit like somebody who is moderately famous.

purpleme12 Wed 11-Nov-20 09:39:06

No but I think I might start actually!

Ginnymweasley Wed 11-Nov-20 09:49:52

I love them. The crappier the better. There is a melissa joan heart one where her nutcracker comes to life. Its fabulously odd and yet brilliant. I've not watched the Christmas inn yet but maybe when its ds naptime haha.

Lazysundayafternoons Wed 11-Nov-20 09:52:08

I'm watching some with ds7, although I dont think they are crappy ones.

Monday we watched the Christmas chronicles.

Last night we watched home alone.

Next with be Santa claus, then Elf, then Deck the halls.

I don't think those are the ones this thread is referring to
This thread is about typical Christmas films on channel 5 in the afternoon, those types

Coronacockup Wed 11-Nov-20 09:57:19

I started watching on Sunday and I will only admit it here but I love the channel 5 Christmas films!!

LeaveMyDamnJam Wed 11-Nov-20 10:00:16

I think I would love to own a film studio that churned out tacky Christmas films at an Olympic rate.
It would keep all the D list actors in jobs so they don’t have to do reality tv and would be giving joy to the world!
Off to see the bank manager later !

I an highly recommend Christmas around the corner on Christmas24. It was brilliant cheese.

AliceMcK Wed 11-Nov-20 10:20:24

Love crappy Christmas movies, I think I’ve done them all already haha I’ve even started to get my 8yo DD hooked.

Lazysundayafternoons Wed 11-Nov-20 10:33:22

@purpleme12

I am in Ireland so we dont have channel 5, didnt realise you're all lucky enough to get a daily dose of crappy Christmas movies.

Our xmas fm radio hasnt even started yet!

Springersrock Wed 11-Nov-20 10:37:29

I love them, the crappier the better - channel 5 on a Sunday afternoon is my favourite place

My whole family are hmm at me

Sony Christmas Channel is also on if Channel 5 isn’t meeting your crappy Christmas movie needs

mogtheexcellent Wed 11-Nov-20 10:44:01

I have been watching the sony christmas channel since September. Now I can flick between that and 5 and 5select.My mum and I like to compare films over the phone.

Some are terrible - Santas Summer House is the worst one I can recall. The christmas cabin a close second.

Some are quite good. I love Oh Christmas Tree, 12 days of christmas and Mrs Miracle. Netflix and prime have a good selection.
