Is anyone else out there watching all the shit Christmas films on the telly at the moment?

I found a personal highlight yesterday in My Christmas Inn, notable for its extremely clunky product placement for Balsam Hill.

And obviously anything starring Melissa Joan Hart or Danica Mckellar is going to be fabulous.

Please tell me it's not just me!

Omg I've found my people!!! I adore a crap Christmas film, Hallmark and Netflix and channel 5 are my faves!
Can recommend Holidate on Netflix! I have a whole load recorded and on my watch list, it's just pure escapism that makes you feel festive and fuzzy inside

I will admit to reading the books as well.
Christmas Camp by Karen Schaler is a doozy, she apparently wrote the christmas prince films.

Been watching the channel 5 ones. Although They seem to be getting worse. I saw a really good one a few years ago called The Christmas card.

Makes me want to visit these small cute American towns during the period of Christmas. Love seeing the local diners and carol singers. Are they like this is real life?

Loved Holidate! I’ve also watched so far:

A Christmas Prince
Christmas calendar
Knight before Christmas
The princess switch (before the next one comes out next week)

I watched the princess switch yesterday as I first saw it 2 years ago and the reason why I re-watched it was because I wanted to be prepared for the second one that is due to come out soon. So far I watched Holidate, Holiday (for the 100th time), Christmas inheritance. They are all shit and predictable and ott but I just love the scenery in them. I like them because I can have it on tv while I'm on my phone and doing bits and bobs and don't need to 100% focus on them. It's funny how all these films about royal marriages to non-royal females have been filmed since Harry and Meghan's wedding 😂

Absolutely love the Channel 5 Christmas films! Someone up thread mentioned Danica McKellar. Always good if she is in them - have seen her in two in the last week.
Interestingly, they are mostly shot in Canada, I think because of the reliable snow.

I love these films, I've watched Christmas with a view just recently (the male lead is easy on the eye) and it also has Patrick Duffy.

Another common theme is how the teenagers always hate their parents, usually because they are workaholics or have divorced their favourite parent. It all comes good in the end.

I never remember the name of the films.

There's one where candace bure's character works in a book shop/cafe and she hits a man with her bike who is then in a coma and she must look after his dog. Grin

I think their perfect decs all get stored in their huge walk in attics or garages that never actually have cars in. The decs are all old family heirlooms and childhood memories yet look surprisingly new and very expensive.

It's also a given that the small towns have a special bakery and an old fashioned toy shop.

@PolkadotsAndMoonbeams

I really enjoyed The Knight Before Christmas last year. All of the above and added time travel.

I loved this!

I've been watching these films for the last few weeks - dm & I watch them and compare notes.

Have noticed 2 themes:
1 - High flyer who moved to the city goes back home and falls in love with high school sweetheart / waitress / inn owner
2 - Someone in the city inherits money / property located in the snowy sticks and had to go there to sort paperwork. They rediscover the magic of Christmas and / or fall in love with a local

There must also be some sort of log cabin, snow, lots and lots of decs, some really nice older family members, kids and usually some sort of Christmas Fayre / party / parade.

Must admit, I watched Christmas Made To Order yesterday and didn't enjoy it one bit! Can't put my finger on why because it has everything I like 🤷‍♀️

Would recommend Christmas inheritance though - and agree this is a completely separate category to the great classics like Home Alone, Muppets Christmas Carol and Elf!

Yes. I want to live in one of these small towns and own a book shop or a bakery and fall in love with a hot guy! 😂

My absolute favourite is Single Santa Seeks Mrs Claus (and the sequel Meet the Santas) with Steve Guttenberg but over the past couple of years have loved A Cookie Cutter Christmas (teacher falls in love whilst taking part in school baking contest), A Snow Globe Christmas (TV exec falls in love whist trapped in snow globe).

Special mentions as well for Unlikely Angel and The Christmas Box both of which can't be crappy as they have Dolly Parton and Richard Thomas in respectively and I will have nothing said against either of them!

At this time of year, my weekends generally consist of me walking the dog in the morning and then lighting a fire and settling in to watch two or three of the Channel 5 Christmas movies (I never say "movie" usually or "schmalzy" but find myself using them for these films!) in a row. I have to set them all to record though, as at any given time, DH may lose the will to live and wrest the remote from me. I can't really blame him.

I love the party/ball scenes where they clearly didn't have enough budget to pay enough extras and there's about three people milling around in the background. Christmas Belle, with Haylie Duff, has to be a stand out for that.

Don't forget the "Christmas wish" subgenre (A Snow Globe Christmas, with Alicia Witt, I'm looking at you).

You forgot the 3rd on where someone has to repeat Christmas until they get it right.A seasonal groundhog day, plus the endless versions of a Christmas carol.

My favourite is one where the bike accidentally kissed the female lead in a lift and it turns out she works as the downtrodden assistant to his girlfriend.

And the Mrs Miracle ones.

Ah yes, the appropriately titled "A Christmas Kiss". Another favourite.

A Snow Globe Christmas (TV exec falls in love whist trapped in snow globe)

Think I've seen that one if it had Turk from Scrubs in.

Ahhh I have found my people! I bloody love a cheesy Christmas film. DH despairs of me and refuses to share my enjoyment, so I have to save them to watch when he's out. Santa's Summer House, however, proved too awful even for me to endure - I had to turn it off after half an hour as it was just so, so dire. I love the Knight Before Christmas on Netflix - Christmas and time travel combined!

I love them!

Can recommend Miss Christmas, a big city exec looking for the perfect Christmas tree in a small town finds love with the guy who owns the tree she wants to buy, but he doesn’t want to sell it. It’s predictable perfection Grin
