Hello everyone. Yoga and Semantle before 9am so a good day, but Day 27 is tough going. Looking forward to trying again in a month and finding an improvement.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 27/04/2022 17:36

Me too @OopNorfDahnSarf me too!!!!

And yes to @Shannith and @Shinyandnew2022 the creaky old me is waiting to pounce the minute I miss a session (or 5) 😂💪So I am ready to fight her off...

BestIsWest · 27/04/2022 18:39

27 - too hard by quite a degree for me. I think there was improvement from last time but quite a lot I couldn’t do.

Shinyandnew2022 · 27/04/2022 21:04

Day 19 for me today. Really enjoyed it - I so needed the time to breathe after a busy stressful work day.
We just seem to have so much going on at the moment - work and home .
Anyway I feel a bit back on track this week so that's good news.

Also it's not ready yet but I am hoping to turn part of my office into a new yoga zone.. oh t won't be in the same league as Adrienes obviously but very exciting anyway !

Sooverthemill · 28/04/2022 08:51

@Shinyandnew2022 that's great! I use the sitting room.
@Shannith great progress and yes I put chin to chest throughout the day too! Luckily I was at home
day 28 was very pleasant.

Shannith · 28/04/2022 12:35

@Sooverthemill @Shinyandnew2022 I use the sitting room too - it's lovely at this time of the year - very light and accessorised by a Benji or two.

I did her deep stretch (not a move one) this morning as I'm at the end of the month so counted this as my day 30. It was far, far easier than when I used to do it before 3 months of move. Result!

And horse did a decent impression of a dressage pony this tomorrow so perhaps yesterday was not a fluke and it really has helped my riding. Best result ever!

27 is hard @BestIsWest. I find it easier (the harder ones) if I do 10/15 mins of one of her relaxing ones first to get in the zone and unkink all the wonky bits.

One thing doing move has made me realise real the benefit of just lying in corpse pose listening to her for a bit - much longer than I would on my own because it takes my back/hips/shoulders a while to unclench and just relax into the mat - rather than lying on top of it like it's made of nails. Works for me - I find it really hard if I go in "cold"

BestIsWest · 28/04/2022 12:48

That’s a good idea @Shannith. I might try that next time I do 27.

Just back from a lovely walk with the dogs and I saw a gorgeous blue heeler just like Benji with a black patch over one eye. Didn’t get to say hello as he was down on the beach and I was up on the bank but he was having a good old roll in the muddy salt water. The real Benji would never do that!

Shinyandnew2022 · 28/04/2022 12:57

I use the sitting room too at the moment it's lovely apart from I have people walking past me and or noise from elsewhere in the house - and the ceilings are low (old house !) so I scrape the ceiling everytime I stretch up high - so the new space will make a difference I hope !

Rummikub · 28/04/2022 13:17

Bedroom for me. But when I have some money I will change the dining room into a yoga space.

did day 28- lovely!

I love what she says - use what you’ve got, don’t worry about how it looks, thank you for showing up. So simple but I find it encouraging.

BestIsWest · 28/04/2022 13:29

We have a lovely loft room which is sunny and would be perfect for a yoga studio but it is currently chock full stuff DS brought home when he finished university. Meanwhile I use the bedroom.
Looking forward to 28.

SunUpSunDown · 28/04/2022 20:04

I use the lounge for my yoga, as we rent such a tiny little cottage, it is about the only place with enough floor space. (I can just about get my mat laid out in the bedroom, but can't do anything off the edge at all!) The ceilings are so low in the lounge that even my vertically challenged height results in ceiling scraping when I do any full standing stretches 😂

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 28/04/2022 20:25

it's so nice to hear everyone talk about their space for yoga-now that DC have gone back to Uni etc there are less of us so we can eat at the breakfast bar and so I push the dining room table to one side and use that floor. It is at the back of the house out of the way with lovely bi-fold doors to teeny tiny walled garden and I love watching the birds and looking out on to the garden-it feels so peaceful and lovely. Obviously disrupted by my groaning 😂

Shinyandnew2022 · 28/04/2022 22:05

Day 20 - I am definitely back in the yoga zone really enjoyed it - even just about coped with side plank.
We are having a really hectic week and even though I felt a bit guilty I did not regret giving myself those 25'minutes!

Love hearing about where everyone else does their yoga it's actually inspiring me more about dedicating a little spot to my daily (ish!) habit

Your space sounds lovely.

i don’t think I could do yoga with windows open as I swear too much!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 29/04/2022 07:15

@Shinyandnew2022 I agree-for me having a space that people aren't tramping through because they need a coffee etc makes my practice much nicer- with DH and DS both working from home it is sometimes difficult to carve out a space and I really feel self conscious if I think someone will interrupt-

and @Rummikub haha the bifold door are firmly shut but feel my groans may still be audible 😂

I remember reading somewhere years ago that you are much more likely to exercise/keep exercise up when there are less barriers to it-for example if you have to drive to the gym and find somewhere to park it becomes easier to make excuses and not go.
Even running or walking-it suggested when possible to just go out your front door and do it versus having to drive somewhere else.

I think for me and my tendency to procrastinate that having a place on the floor cleared and room ready so that I need to do is put my mat down is very helpful.
I know not everyone can do this but removing as many obstacles to success as possible does make it easier.

Am feeling so good about being back-have found this thread so valuable in keeping me going when I am down or struggling to get back in to it!!
And it is nearly Month 4!!!!!!

Sooverthemill · 29/04/2022 08:12

I started day 29 today but simply wasn't up for it. I really feel those missing days when I was unwell and I still am not 100%. So I did a stretchy one instead (kassandra) and am looking forward to Sunday and starting afresh. I'm sure it will be like starting in January so am a little apprehensive but I need to get a hold of my health again

@mumsiedarlingrevolta
agree with you above. For me floor space is lacking so I have even done yoga in my bed as it’s the space that’s always available. And removes additional barriers.
so that’s why I like her ‘use what you have’ idea as I have a tendency to procrastinate.

a bit random, but I always remember the Chilean miners that were stuck in the collapsed mine And I was in awe that their family came, made camp, brought pots and cooked food for themselves in stoves. Truly making do with what you had.

Rummikub · 29/04/2022 08:31

@Sooverthemill sorry to read that.. Great though that you did Kassandra.
Take it easy, showing up and building up is a good place right now.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 29/04/2022 10:25

@Sooverthemill remember adrienne always says "do what feels good" and Move is a roadmap-but sometimes a detour the best way to get to your destination-much better to have done one that you feel better for than nothing at all!!
@Rummikub what a brilliant (and humbling) example of making do.
I think some ppl enjoy the getting set up as part of the process but for me it helps to have less barriers-glad to hear from a fellow procrastinator!

Rummikub · 29/04/2022 12:15

my ex h would get all the stuff for any new hobby. Really commit to it for a while- then it would fizzle out never to be mentioned again. And it would be on to the next thing.

OopNorfDahnSarf · 29/04/2022 13:45

Day 28 for me and very restful. Just what I needed. I will do Day 29 tomorrow.
I do yoga on the lounge floor in the morning before everybody gets up.

rifling · 29/04/2022 20:13

I have completely fallen off the wagon this month! Partly because I was away from home for 2 weeks and partly because I couldn't access mumsnet after the update and without you guys, I found it easier to give up! Are we starting again on Sunday?

Sooverthemill · 30/04/2022 07:58

@Rifling yes I think we are . I wondered about if people wanted to do a different 30 days for variety though? But definitely a 30 day one. Thoughts?

OP posts:
rifling · 30/04/2022 08:10

I wouldn't mind doing a different one for variety but which one?
