@Shinyandnew2022 I throughly recommend them. They mange the best trick of support f (holding everything in a bit) while being super stretchy and comfortable. I've got some sweaty Betty ones - these are better.

Day 6 - not one to go in cold on. Loosen up hips and shoulders first. I definitely recommend a bit of warming up/relaxing the kinks out first. Or maybe that's just me and you all just leapt n the mat and power onGrin

It was a bit hard but I've done loads of core ones through riding necessity and of course straight out vanity! I do them regularly so I could do it all. Given that I could not have done any of it when I first started (mostly because my hip flexors were so tight I couldn't have my legs off the ground without pain) I'm pleased.

But without my dogged hours of core practice it would have been a bit full on.

merrymouse · 06/03/2022 10:55

Hello! I have just found this thread and did just jump in on day 6 - but have done similar before.

Thank you all for the thread - Adrienne is just what I need right now. (And Benji)

Sooverthemill, sending positive thoughts to you and your DD.

Hope to see you all again tomorrow.

guinnessguzzler · 06/03/2022 17:24

Just done Day 6 and found it so hard this time round. I think Covid has taken its toll and I overdid it in the week (stupidly) thinking I was over it now I'm testing negative and out of isolation. I'd say I found it harder than in February and possibly even than January! I do feel less sluggish now though so I think it was good for me.

My fella is sticking to his daily 10 minute man yoga too and seems to be benefiting so far so the yoga love is spreading Grin.

rifling · 06/03/2022 18:03

@sooverthemill Gosh that sounds really tough. Hope things continue to improve tomorrow.

BestIsWest · 06/03/2022 18:20

Hope things continue to improve @Sooverthemill

Just done day 6 too. I don’t mind day 6 as I can do most of it apart from the hip bit where you thread the needle. I managed a few seconds which is brilliant seeing as I couldn’t even put my weight on my hip to attempt it last time.

Shannith · 07/03/2022 10:08

Day 7 done and it was easier than last time as I remember being totally flummoxed at her now out your right elbow on your left knee and put your hands together but one in a fist. I looked like I was playing a solo, invisible game of 3D Twister.

I probably still looked like that but it felt like I was doing so with more purpose, which is progress.

I was pretty stiff in my neck/shoulders which is usual for me after the kind of core work yesterday so I did her upper back love video which normally sorts me out.

I used to do this loads and so tight was I because of my smashed collar bone that it was always hard and slightly painful. This was the first time I've done it since move Feb and this month and I had loads more range of motion and it was a pleasure rather than a necessity.

Shannith · 07/03/2022 10:10

Hi @merrymouse! It's such a nice thread. @Sooverthemill and @guinnessguzzler hugs to you both for having tough times.

Sooverthemill · 07/03/2022 11:02

@Shannith that's great, it shows how a daily practice even half an hour genuinely helps. I had another bad night so did half the day 6 and hope to add it on to day 7 tomorrow
@guinnessguzzler take it easy, covid is a bugger

OP posts:
guinnessguzzler · 07/03/2022 11:21

Thanks both. Feeling much better today so just trying to remind myself to take things slowly!

guinnessguzzler · 07/03/2022 16:09

Day 7 done and it is a nice one for sure. I was definitely glad I went for it!

tootyfruitypickle · 07/03/2022 18:44

Checking in on the correct thread and will have a read back. Have been doing home but not enjoying it - but will get through it !

BestIsWest · 07/03/2022 20:29

Day 7 done here too. Glad everyone is feeling a bit better. At least day 8 endures a nice lie down.

Shinyandnew2022 · 07/03/2022 22:51

Day 7 done today and it was very lovely indeed !
Yesterdays (day 6) I cannot say the same for - I don't know why really but it wasn't noticeably easier for me, and I don't have COVID.

Finally managed DH to give yoga a go yesterday too - I hope he will stick with it like your fells @guinnessguzzler . He is experiencing ongoing joint pain and fatigue since our experience with COVID in January .

UnaOfStormhold · 08/03/2022 08:38

So while you were battling day 6 I had day 21 to deal with which also has lots of core work, though is mercifully brief. Day 22 last night was nice and the balances are improving.

DS is doing much better, full of bounce so I am hoping that the last few spots will crust over today so we can get him back to school tomorrow. Hope your DD is on the mend soon @Sooverthemill.

Shannith · 08/03/2022 09:12

@UnaOfStormhold well done. You can ask as of reminder/forewarned of sessions to come! Glad DS is bouncing again.

@guinnessguzzler and @Shinyandnew2022 love the man yoga attempts. Hopefully they will realise it's actually quite hard. Not just lying there breathing. I keep trying to get DDs dad (my ex, but we are friends) to do it as he's got dodgy knees and is a flexible as a plank. Deaf ears.

Just about to do Day 8 and a random core one.

Shannith · 08/03/2022 09:13

Act as. Honestly I need yoga for the fat stabbing fingers.

Sooverthemill · 08/03/2022 10:02

@UnaOfStormhold well done for keeping going!
@Shinyandnew2022 it's disappointing isn't it, when it's not easier!.
My DH will never do yoga. He thinks it's ridiculous

Well I did day 7 and I do not know how Adrienne does it but it was e a what I needed for my poor squished and stressed body and mind. Simply perfect. Spent most of yesterday afternoon and evening in A&E with poor DD after nurse came to see her at home on GP orders. She simply can't seem to breath at the moment and her heart rate is 142. So everything checked out and it's seems to be a chest infection exacerbating her POTs . New antibiotics and instructions to hassle our poor kind GP to find better maintenance drugs day to day.
Thank god for coffee

SpottyBumPony · 08/03/2022 10:23

Can I join the thread please? I did my first yoga class six weeks ago. I've got a mat and blocks now, already had leggings etc. I'm trying to do Move two or three times a week between my weekly class

I'm a size 20 and find child's pose and sitting folds very difficult and I've got so much belly and breaststroke that I can't breathe.

How on earth do you get your leg forward from low downward dog to low lunge. Mine only goes half way up Grin. I can do it from standing if I put my leg outside my hands, inside won't fit because of the afore mentioned belly

Sooverthemill · 08/03/2022 10:35

@SpottyBumPony well done and welcome! This may not be helpful but I've been doing yoga almost every day for 7 years and I still can't get my foot all the way through. It's improving but now hear perfect. Don't stress about it.

OP posts:
Shannith · 08/03/2022 10:44

Oh your poor thing @Sooverthemill and DD. I'm glad I'm a way that she ended up in A&E - I hope you know what I mean - because hopefully you can press for more maintenance drugs. You are truly an inspiration.

@SpottyBumPony hurrah - yes join in. My tip which I wish I'd known - oh a year ago is in dog dog

Really lift your hips high - so you are on tip ties
Really push away from you hand/arms/shoulders - you are trying to create a v shape and as much space as possible for the leg
Tuck your chin as if you were trying ti look through your body

Now as you release the leg you are bringing forward - shift all your weight into your straight pushing arms and look forward
Now bring your leg gently forward

My mistake was trying to do all the movement in my leg and actually if you set it up correctly your leg will have more room

I'm not a yoga teacher though - this is just what finally made the penny drop for me.

You can also watch her foundations of yoga videos for free - she exams it better than me and shows you how.

Ultimately it's practice and daily practice that has worked for me.

I could do anything - even found corpse pose uncomfortable! I just did day 9 and managed tree pose!

UnaOfStormhold · 08/03/2022 10:48

Welcome @spottybumpony. The things that help me with bringing foot through into lunge are a) lifting right up on the fingers of the same side (Adriene never mentions this but she does it!) and b) shifting your weight way forward like those plank exercises where you bring your knee through towards the opposite elbow. But if it doesn't happen, then bringing it up with the hand is fine, or indeed trying to step outside of your arm and then move the arm around so it's outside again. The thing I like most about Adriene is how much she encourages everyone to find a way to make the poses work for them, so experiment, use props and find what feels good.

guinnessguzzler · 08/03/2022 12:05

Oh no @Sooverthemill that sounds terrifying. I hope they get her sorted with the right medication soon.

Day 8 was lovely, very relaxing. My only issue is I find the head rotation makes me dizzy so I tend to just move it to each side instead. Maybe I need to slow it down!

BestIsWest · 08/03/2022 18:11

@Spottybumpony, I’m also a size 18-20 and know what you mean about things getting in the way. I reckon that if I’m at least trying then I can only improve.
Good tips @shannith. I will give them a go later.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 08/03/2022 19:29

@Sooverthemill oh you poor thing!! Fingers crossed things have settled and more under control. At least they let you go in with her!!

I am really still struggling with nausea and after effects from the hideous norovirus and am just not bouncing back at all.

Making me feel quite low-I remember someone posted way up thread about struggling for a few months after they were ill. Ugh.

Shinyandnew2022 · 08/03/2022 21:23

I feel absolutely exhausted today - day 8 should have been perfect but actually it was too relaxing so I just felt tired at the end instead of the Little energy boost I normally get. I felt a bit cheated !

@Sooverthemill sorry to hear how stressful DDs health is at the moment that's a lot to be dealing with and I am glad the yoga mat gives you a bit of respite and breathing space.
I feel like I have already become genuinely quite in need of my daily fix!

@Shannith my DH does realise it isn't easy but I think finds it all a bit slow - he would rather play football but he is so inflexible I really hope he can give it a go - just the once session so far!

Welcome @SpottyBumPony intriguing user name ! The advice from the others about transitions is very good and helped me a
Lot but also as others have said don't worry and most of all be patient with
Yourself. I used to find wide legged child's pose was much less squishing than the normal one Adriene uses so you could try that variation too .
