For those of those finding it tough, I did one yesterday where she said something along the lines of, and I'm paraphrasing here, lots of people don't do or stick with yoga as they don't feel strong or flexible enough but that's exactly why you should do it

Thank you @IntendingWell for the advice. These are my motivations too. I think I've truly found something I love that makes me feel good and is helping with other areas of my life too

Shannith · 02/03/2022 20:18

I was going to ask what everyone wore.

Like @BestIsWest I'm normally just in what I wear round the house/slept in.

I wear these CRZ YOGA Women's Thermal Fleece... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZD63PTK?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare and a vest.

The yoga pants - these are my second pair - after 2 years of nearly daily wear the original ones elastic is gone. Still good enough for the yard and general around the house - I'm wearing them now.

I literally wear them in the house 90% of the time, I walk the dog in them, ride in them and sometimes run in them. They've got leg pockets for a phone which are so handy. Comfiest things I own and cost per wear must be in the minus numbers.

I sometimes wear a sweatshirt and socks as I live in a old house and it can take a while to warm up. I find though if I wear socks/jumper I'm not as good. Socks especially make everything harder. So I start off with them on and shed them as I warm up.

Shannith · 02/03/2022 20:24

Re the arms - I've been really focussing on doing plank/down dog and table "properly" aka actually doing what she says rather than making a stab at it. So really pushing up from the floor - which was tricky to start as I smashed my collar bone a few times when I was younger. And I occasionally fall off horses.

I swear hoovering table (she does it a lot on some of her non move videos) is like doing an arm workout. I could only do it for about a second to start but it gets...easier? Less hard anyway.

Rummikub · 02/03/2022 20:29

Ooo I might try harder with plank etc then!
That is good motivation.

CharlieBubbles88 · 02/03/2022 20:48

@Shannith I have these minus the fleece lining. Like you I live in them and have about ten pairs. Apparently I should get commission as so many others have bought on my recommendation 😂 I also have their zip up tops too. Now I need to check the fleece ones out!

I have done it in PJs before but now sling these on and find I'm more 'in the zone'. Same issue with socks too as I slide around more, especially in the evening when I take myself upstairs to the spare room. If I have the heating on I get too hot, if not I'm freezing at the end when winding down and usually Chuck a dressing gown on

Shinyandnew2022 · 02/03/2022 23:40

Evening all late again but got day 2 done earlier.
I also found it harder than I remembered.
Forearm plank is incredibly challenging still.

I agree with PPs though that it does get less hard with time - I too am much more focused on doing things properly as I am stronger and it really helps.

I get changed into leggings and a 'yoga' top after I finish work - it's probably my favourite part of the day now.
I often wear my Adriene Move merch t shirt like a sad groupie !!

Thanks @UnaOfStormhold she is going through a delightful phase at the moment I must enjoy it while it lasts

Rummikub · 02/03/2022 23:44

Maybe it’s the yoga extending its magic.
My dd2 has been delightful to be around too.

Sooverthemill · 03/03/2022 08:27

Day 3! Lovely stretches which were great but I found it harder than I remember!

Sooverthemill · 03/03/2022 08:32

I wear my pjs as I do it as soon as I get up ( after a cup of tea). If I didn't do it immediately I wouldn't be able to get back to it. It's my only free time really in the day. I find forearm plank, plank and hovering table not at all difficult. No idea why. In lockdown I did a few of that mad man live PE sessions ( what is his name) and I could do the forearm planks and planks with ease but the jumping around stuff killed me. Other yoga stuff is tougher eg balances but they get easier the more you do them

Joe wickes ?

Shannith · 03/03/2022 09:57

Ah yes Joe Wicks. I tried to get DD to do some of them when he started them. It's was pre yoga for me so it mostly involved her laughing at my attempts.

Not laughing now are you DD as I can hold a plank longer than her. Yes, I'm competing with a 10 year old. Not very zen of me.

guinnessguzzler · 03/03/2022 11:16

GrinGrinGrin Yes my littlest sometimes gets me to do a bit of Joe Wickes too and I can definitely do more of it now.

Just been catching up on all the chat here as we were at a wedding yesterday so couldn't check in. I am pleased to report that I did manage to do my yoga first thing though as I was determined not to miss it.

Sooverthemill · 03/03/2022 12:17

Yes! Joe wickes. He always liked like HE was enjoying it!

The gratitude for Adrienne is high in this house today. I got a new foster dog on Saturday and he was absolutely terrified. Which is fairly normal.

I accidentally nearly dropped a chair on his this morning which meant he fled into the front room and hid under an armchair - I moved it very slowly and decided to do yoga anyway and he's been doing an excellent impression of Benji.

He actually snored at one point. It's such a good way of him getting used to me moving about in a totally calm and disinterested way. I swear her dulcet tones calm all life forms.

Did day 3 twice because he was so chilled I didn't want to disturb him and break the spell.

It was easier the second time - because it takes me a while to loosen up.

I forget that I could not have done a side plank without swearing a month ago so while it's not easy, it's easier. I'm also amazed I can now warrior one and two without wondering what on earth she's on talking about with her strong legs/strong in your non bent leg. I was concentrating on not falling over.

Ethan/Benji II where the armchair is supposed to be.

guinnessguzzler · 03/03/2022 14:14

Aah, so adorable @Shannith

BestIsWest · 03/03/2022 17:23

What a good boy!
Day 3 done. Even managed the side plank for a few seconds albeit with the blocks. Now up to 20 seconds plank without blocks. It’s amazing!

Sooverthemill · 03/03/2022 19:23

@Shannith that's so sweet. Wish we could foster again. I loved it

Well, today I was so tired that I managed to fall down the stairs. My whole left side is very sore, swollen knee, painful wrist and hip and ankle. Brilliant. Hoping the ice I applied will have helped me be still able to do yoga tomorrow ( and carry on looking after DD who is super poorly)

Ahh this is lovely she truly is a miracle worker and I am very impressed you managed it all twice !

Day 3 in the books here too.
I enjoyed it . Side plank improving . Also I noticed how often my breath is just flowing in the same way as it should be - in the past it was much more of conscious effort to breath in and out at the right times !

Gintime74 · 03/03/2022 21:46

I signed up for this in Feb and did so badly. I want to do it and need to as so many aches, pains and permanently stressed but I get up at 5 every morning, am out of the door by 5.30 and home around 7.30/8pm. How do others fit it in? I don’t really have a lunch break but could probably find time whilst at work, but just where to do it and factor in changing out of uniform?

Rummikub · 03/03/2022 22:37

Would weekend work?

Rummikub · 03/03/2022 22:38

At least that’s two sessions per week.
I’ve been rubbish in feb

Oh @Sooverthemill I somehow missed this - you poor thing I really hope you aren't too sore tomorrow.

Sooverthemill · 04/03/2022 08:14

Still sore but actually although my knee and thigh are hurting most it's ankle and wrist that are most troublesome. Anyway I did 2/3 of day 4 reasonably well I think before deciding it hurt too much!

OP posts:
Shannith · 04/03/2022 08:47

@Sooverthemill you poor thing! That sounds nasty but kudos to you for doing most of day 4. I find yoga helps when I hurt myself - but that's muscles rather than smashing myself down the stairs.

Hope you feel better today.

Just did say for with Benji/Ethan looking on. He's entirely unbothered with me making shapes - but try to open a sticky window and not so happy.

Just finished day 4 and it was fine... for some reason I'm under the complexly stupid impression that that doing it for the second time means I should be flinging myself about with gay abandon. Not so.

But it was good to remember to breathe - when I do it properly it makes it easier. So of course I always forget.

I'm really trying this time to listen and comply with every small instruction she gives - not just getting into position if that makes sense. My previous (sometimes inept) practice has taught me that that's where the real progress happens - much as she goes on about find what feels good - doing it correctly means I'm better aligned.

I'm obsessed with correct alignment because of riding. If you saw me ride you'd be surprised about that Grin

BestIsWest · 04/03/2022 09:38

Oh no @Sooverthemill, hope you haven’t done too much damage. Maybe take it easy and just do some gentle days.

Day 4 done. I found it hard and a bit fast for me tbh and was out of breath a few times. But I tried and I agree @Shannith, trying to follow every little instruction really does help.
I’ve done it early today - I usually do it in the evening about an hour after dinner and it helps me wind down so maybe I’ll do another one tonight.
