Very excited when the email came this morning! Is anyone else up for this?

@mimiasovitch 😮, let us know how you get on.

I did 'gentle yoga' today which is an open air one 25 minutes long which I often return to. Love it. I'm not well still and now waiting for hospital appointment so trying to keep active so I stay sane!

mimiasovitch · 26/02/2020 10:14

Hope everything is ok @Sooverthemill

So, I did a Fightmaster yoga 30 min flow. I only heard about this from the FWFG community, so a little ironic. Pros: fast paced, lots of poses including some balance variations I'd not done before.
Cons: too fast at times - I had to use the pause button a lot. The cues weren't what I'm used to to, so I had to watch the video a lot. The instructor does the practice with a voice over, so not quite as immersive as I've found Adrienne.

All in all, I don't think I'm quite ready for someone else, though I may try a 5 parks one at some point as I've heard good things.

UnaOfStormhold · 26/02/2020 19:51

Sorry you're still feeling rubbish Sooverthemill, hope you manage to get some help soon.

I have done videos elsewhere but I do like the way Adriene explains things; the way she talks about drawing a line or a circle with the nose, or letting the thigh bones feel heavy really help me to understand what she's describing and have given me nuances I've not had in classes. She reminds me to focus on the breath or relax my shoulders at just the right time. And she comes across as just so nice and funny of course.

Sooverthemill · 27/02/2020 08:00

Thanks @UnaOfStormhold and @mimiasovitch. Trying not to over dramatise as it may be nothing but it's a worry until I see consultant but may explain why I feel so unwell generally. I'm on a 2 week urgent referral list.

But trying to keep fit and healthy! I tried Erica someone once who was nice and also 5 parks but just not YWA!

mimiasovitch · 28/02/2020 16:20

I've decided that as i seem to be sticking to a daily practice, that I should go back to basics (though as I started with Revolution I can't say I ever really learnt them) and I plan to do the foundations videos, and yoga for beginners. Give myself a good grounding in the grammar as it were. So today I did a 40 minute beginner video, and it was great, just as demanding as others I've done, if no vinyasa to speak of. I'm finding though that it hurts to rest on my left knee in a lunge. It's fine in table top, and a runner's lunge is ok, but on its own it felt like my left knee cap just wasn't in the right position and I had to stop to straighten my leg. I have no knee issues at any other time! Any ideas?

UnaOfStormhold · 29/02/2020 08:44

Does a bit of padding help? I sometimes just do the knee off the ground version instead.

Sooverthemill · 29/02/2020 14:33

Back to 'fill your cup' again as all I can manage is 20 minutes at the moment. Got my appointment through for 9 March which is at least a date!

Sooverthemill · 03/03/2020 11:22

And still doing short ones each day, sometimes from the new month or from the channel

mimiasovitch · 03/03/2020 11:39

I did the new Awaken one yesterday, which was quite a workout. I then had a long night in work, so wanted something More chilled this morning, so I did day 2 on the March calendar. It's simple but lovely. I really need to start making a note of what I do, so I can look back on the ones I really enjoyed.

UnaOfStormhold · 03/03/2020 21:34

Up to day 16 of True and really enjoying it. It's surprisingly hard to think of something that I love about myself - lots of things I'm proud of but that's somehow different.

But my main insight from today is that I shouldn't feel bad that I'm so much less able to get into the poses as I was when I first did yoga a little over 20 years ago, but instead feel good that I'm so much better at being mindful of my body. This may have started because I have to be cautious to do every move in a way that doesn't aggravate my sore back, but the effect is that I'm now much more likely to feel my way into the pose than force my way there. Which as I understand yoga is a much more important thing.

Sooverthemill · 04/03/2020 07:33

@UnaOfStormhold that's such a good insight! I've been mentally berating myself for not doing long sessions or even every ( still most) day. But my health isn't great and my life is incredibly complicated at the moment and I love it when I hear Adrienne say 'well done for showing up for yourself'. I could so easily collapse into a crisp eating heap in front of Netflix! Glad you like True

UnaOfStormhold · 04/03/2020 08:15

She does have a knack for saying the right thing at the right time doesn't she! So encouraging.

mimiasovitch · 04/03/2020 10:32

You're totally right. In my history of various sporty activities it's always been about 'how low can you go', with competitive flexibility. I love that finally, a few years away from 50, I can allow my body to feel good, and in my pyjamas no less Grin

Sooverthemill · 04/03/2020 11:40

Yup, that's why I love her even though sometimes it's so schmaltzy it's ridiculous but every single bloody session she says at least one thing that rings true. I hope she's as nice in RL. I'm focussing on flexibility and hips at the moment and so although no amazing high from it, it's still lovely and soothing

UnaOfStormhold · 04/03/2020 21:15

Hmm, unusually not a great practice for me today (day 17 of True). Lots of talking that I wasn't quite in the right frame of mind for, and the second half was mostly poses that are just too much for my back right now (cobra, sphinx, half and full bow).

Frustrating. But I got on the mat and I did what I could. And Benjy was very funny when she started slapping her thighs! I did discover that if I start in extended child pose and then do a gentle cobra style lift of my back it stretches the top of my back and opens my chest but doesn't put any strain on the lower back.

Sooverthemill · 05/03/2020 10:55

@UnaOfStormhold that's a shame. Couldn't do any this morning, hoping to do short session tonight before bed.

Indecisivelurcher · 07/03/2020 20:34

Hi folks, is this a live thread? Think so? I'm hoping someone can tell me where to start with all the yoga with Adrien videos on YouTube... There are so many?! I'm a beginner, but have been doing pilates every week for 6 months.

UnaOfStormhold · 07/03/2020 21:30

Hello indecisive, it's definitely got quieter here but there are a few of us still around. I generally find searching for what I want generally brings up a good starting point. yogawithadriene.com/yoga-complete-beginners/ This page has her recommendations for beginners: yogawithadriene.com/yoga-poses-beginners-start/ and the foundations of yoga series seems like a nice solid grounding with some of the basic poses - do start with the later page though as they get harder as you go through; yogawithadriene.com/free-yoga-videos/foundations-of-yoga/page/8/

Sooverthemill · 07/03/2020 21:47

@Indecisivelurcher yes we've gone a bit quite ( waves to @una)

I started with the short 10 minute ones and progressed from there. The 30 day series of which there are now 5 or 6 would also build you up I reckon. I did 30 days first then Camp then revolution then true as I recall. I started November 2015 and have rarely gone a week without 5 or 6 sessions and very often every day. Have a go and cone back and we will be happy to help. Also, the comments below the videos do get answered especially via Facebook. Good luck and enjoy

Sooverthemill · 07/03/2020 21:48

@UnaOfStormhold Ive be been a bit awol because of ill health this week but I went to the osteopath on Thursday who was very impressed with my pelvic tilt and my general increase in flexibility in my hips! Result. Hope you are okay and everyone else too

Indecisivelurcher · 07/03/2020 22:16

Ah thank you @una and @soover, I'll start at the beginning. Looking forward to being more flexible and having less sciatica!

Sooverthemill · 08/03/2020 08:13

@Indecisivelurcher it definitely works! Enjoy

noodlezoodle · 08/03/2020 21:52

Oh dear, I've totally fallen out of the habit. I think I need to go back to doing a 30 day challenge again because I often don't fancy what's on the calendar and think I'll pick something else, and then I end up doing nothing. Not good!

Sooverthemill · 09/03/2020 07:49

@noodlezoodle that happens! Definitely go back to one of the earlier challenges

Buntyforgirls · 09/03/2020 08:13

I’m starting today! Getting lazy about going to classes and promise myself I will get the mat out at home, only to find other things to do. Mad, because I love the way I feel after yoga and Pilates.
