Who's up for a thread to discuss our progress this year? We've had threads following Adriene's 30 days of Yoga for the last few years so sign up now for January.

Based on the last few years I'll warn you now: watch out for day 6!!!!

Im at work still, and wont get home until 10pm (shall i do it? Or wimp out?)

BuzzKillington · 03/01/2018 19:48

Yes, do it - it will relax you for bed.

frenchfancy · 03/01/2018 19:52

Rollerbird do it before 8am tomorrow. You choose if it is tonight or tomorrow morning.

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 03/01/2018 20:00

I made it part way through the warrior sequence... but only coz my tea was ready! Might finish before bed.

ClickHip · 03/01/2018 20:46

Just finished day 2. That was my favourite so far, but the wrists struggled again sometimes. I think I prefer doing this before breakfast but I just won't always have time.

carrie74 · 03/01/2018 20:49

Day 2 done here too. I'm afraid as much as I live Adriene, I just want her to get on with it sometimes. I'm sure it'll pick up a bit after the first week.

AugustRose · 03/01/2018 20:52

twofalls I struggle with pigeon pose too, one day last summer I did two sessions back to back and was feeling very flexible so leaned forward too far and injured myself. Now I don't lie forward and prop myself up or even miss it out.

I thought Benji was funny, I wish I had a dog to get in my way Grin

LaLaLolly · 03/01/2018 21:38

Joining. Did Day 2 today and loved it!

Found pigeon really lovely, made me feel amazing. But struggling with wrists during planks and downward dog; no doubt they'll improve.

I do wish I didn't have to break positions all the time to check what she's doing, but I suppose that's what happens when you don't have a clue!

She's such a sweet girl and has a really pleasant voice - I wasn't surprised to read she does a lot of voice work as an actress.

nada2106 · 03/01/2018 21:59

I'm a complete novice and struggling to follow her. Can anyone tell me please how to approach this. I really, really want to do it but I need to do the same lesson many times as I'm not familiar with yoga at all. Also, is it realistic to expect that at one point I will start to feel ... At the moment, it's to technical for me and I have to watch her movements constantly which doesn't help. Perhaps I should look for some basic yoga online course? If anyone has any piece of advice, please share it with me. Thanks.

PurpleDaisies · 03/01/2018 22:08

I thinks she’s also got beginners videos on YouTube nada. I think I’d really be struggling if I hadn’t done yoga before.

TossDaily · 03/01/2018 22:11

I've done both days and I really have enjoyed it.

The hardest bit for me is sitting cross-legged at the beginning. My hips don't like it and my posture is appalling.Hopefully this will improve as the month goes on.

I'm developing a nice little girl crush on Adriene Grin

diymania · 03/01/2018 22:21

I'm happy to discover this thread as I've done day 1 and 2! I've noticed similar things to others....sitting cross legged harder and quite heavy on the wrists. I signed up to RED Jan ( run every day in Jan) but have a sore Achilles at the mo so this yoga is going to be my move every day in Jan for the next few days!) Enjoying it so far!

nada2106 · 03/01/2018 22:23

Thank you Purple. I'm looking at various videos for beginners; hopefully I'll find something that I like.

HemanOrSheRa · 03/01/2018 23:41

Try sitting on a folded up blanket or towel Toss. It gives you a bit more space so you can sit up taller and open your hips a little easier Smile.

Littlebearcat · 04/01/2018 01:32

Hi I have signed up and just started day 1 this evening ( well midnight everyone finally asleep here bar the cat!) I loved it I just hope I can keep finding the time to fit it in as I get up very early for work. Pity I am a day behind !

Cherrypi · 04/01/2018 06:33

Enjoyed day 2. How chilled out is Benji.

SureIusedtobetaller · 04/01/2018 06:43

Love Benji.
I found it ok except my hands and wrists. Ouch. Hoping they get stronger and it’s not just arthritis.

TossDaily · 04/01/2018 07:38

Thanks Heman I'll try that. My lower back is really stiff this morning.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 04/01/2018 08:16

I like to do yoga first thing if poss, but DC are keen on snuggles in the morning (they are 9 and 11 so not tiny!). But managed day 2 this morning, loved pigeon - think that muscle that goes from bum down back of thigh really appreciated the stretch.

Have tight calves from running, so downward dog is a bit of a challenge, but know it will do me good.

I love to think of MNers around the country (world?) rolling out their mats in their living rooms Smile

WeAreGerbil · 04/01/2018 09:00

I've just done Day 3, stretch. I'm enjoying it but I've done a lot of yoga, I think I would be struggling to understand if I were a beginner, as she's not giving the detailed instructions you'd get in class, and I am wondering what she's doing in some of the poses (half monkey today, why is her leg on a different mat?!)

Rshard · 04/01/2018 09:24

I enjoyed day 2 as well. Like you tossdaly, I’m not good at the crossed legs/sitting tall so I’ll try heman’s tip too - thanks.

I can’t get my leg from downward dog through to the front either, never have been able to. I am sort of leg tho!

Thehairthebod · 04/01/2018 09:41

I'm enjoying it but I've done a lot of yoga, I think I would be struggling to understand if I were a beginner, as she's not giving the detailed instructions you'd get in class, and I am wondering what she's doing in some of the poses (half monkey today, why is her leg on a different mat?!)

I was thinking this, but then was thinking it's ideal for someone like me who has done quite a lot of yoga but has completely got out of the habit and wants to get back into it. I am probably the kind of person it's aimed at, as a sort of 'rekindling'. She talks a lot about really thinking about what you do with your body, sometimes when you have done it for a while, you become preoccupied with things like getting your heels on the floor in downward dog. Etc.

If you were a complete beginner I think you would need a bit more time on the original sun salutations, the breathing, the basic poses etc.

I did day 2 last night and enjoyed it, and found it easier than day 1 which is good!

AugustRose · 04/01/2018 09:53

Day 3 done and found it tougher, Oh my that forearm plank was hard for me and my breathing wasn't flowing easily.

It was quite difficult to follow her today so if you are new you might want to watch it through first then do it. I also agree with doing some of the basics videos too, if you don't know the poses you spend too much time trying to watch her and don't breathe properly.

Frenchfemme · 04/01/2018 09:58

I've just finished Day 1 (starting today as I've got my room back!). I haven't done much Yoga, and not for some time, so found it quite hard. I will persevere with Day 2 tomorrow, but may have to watch the sequence tonight so I have some idea what it involves.

InfiniteSheldon · 04/01/2018 14:17

I think doesn't matter if you don't breathe properly same as it doesn't matter if you aren't flexible just do what you can the breathing like the asanas get easier over time. That forearm plank though! Last year I did all the planks on my knees beginning to regret my aim to do full p!ank this time. I have a dodgy shoulder so if that starts playing up I'm going back to my knees.
