Who's up for a thread to discuss our progress this year? We've had threads following Adriene's 30 days of Yoga for the last few years so sign up now for January.

Based on the last few years I'll warn you now: watch out for day 6!!!!

Morning everyone! I am just about to do day two. Before I wake up properly and start finding excuses!

frenchfancy · 03/01/2018 08:57

Just done day2. Less crossed legged than day 1 thank goodness but it must have been harder as I had to take off my sweatshirt (never happens).

DragonsAndCakes · 03/01/2018 09:31

Yeah, I nearly had to take off my dressing gown! Blush

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 03/01/2018 09:35

Will check her out. Do you need to download an App?

Herewegoagain56 · 03/01/2018 09:48

Checking in, will be nice to follow this thread and get motivated! I've just started to do yoga so am a real beginner.

Anyone else struggle to keep a straight back while sitting cross legged? My back tends to want to round over so am hoping yoga will help my posture!

Did day 1 last night and found it good so am looking forward to doing day 2 when my toddler naps

quirkychick · 03/01/2018 09:48

No app, just look at the website or YouTube.

Day 2, a bit harder, but I've been doing vinyasa flow yoga, so it seems a bit slow, in a good way. Adriene's Revolution last year, really got me thinking about how I move.

Whoever was saying about it being tough on the wrists, I would second looking at her foundations video about wrists, it really helps. You can also come onto your fists for some poses, cat, lunge or do a forearm plank until you develop more strength. I still need 2 cushions under my hips for pigeon, but last year I couldn't do it at all due to hamstring problems, so an improvement.

Littleredpoppy · 03/01/2018 10:23

Day 2 done Smile
Struggling to keep a long neck and drop my shoulders today, but feel so much better for doing it

3boysNeedABiggerKitchen · 03/01/2018 10:49

Day 1 done, I like to do my yoga before everyone else gets up, so will be a day behind you all

Day 2 done. Found it harder today but just modified where I needed to. Feel great now.

AugustRose · 03/01/2018 12:13

Yeah, I nearly had to take off my dressing gown ha ha, I did today in PJ bottoms as my house is cold and it was so much more comfortable!

Day 2 done and I was a bit suprised how much I could feel it from yesterday, a good sign surely? Kids back at school tomorrow so i'll hopefully get into a better routine of being able to do yoga at the same time most days

CountFosco · 03/01/2018 13:05

I was looking for a yoga that would strengthen/build muscle as well for relaxation purposes. Is this the right kind of yoga do you think?

All yoga will strengthen if you do it regularly but certain types are more strenuous than others. If you're already fit then try some of Adriene's Weight Loss Yoga or Vinyasa or the Intermediate series for something to make you sweat a bit. Or try different classes in your local area.

I do think the more you do yoga though the harder it becomes as your understanding of the poses improves. And it's as important to do the stretchy yoga as to do the strengthening yoga. Yoga is very much a journey (and I've obviously been doing it too long because that sounds so woo and I am not woo at all).

Anyone else struggle to keep a straight back while sitting cross legged? My back tends to want to round over so am hoping yoga will help my posture!

Stick a block of a cushion under your bum to help. As the muscles in your core and back strengthen it will become easier but the shape of your pelvis makes a massive difference as well to how easy sitting crossed legged feels.

Day 2 done - earlier than usual as I had the living room to myself for an hour. Pigeon really hurt! I am so unbendy right now.

Anyone else rewind to ‘behead your dog’ just to watch Benji getting in the way of everything?Grin

Kikisdeliveries · 03/01/2018 14:44

Day 2 done! Missed the last bit with the lying down as my grocery delivery arrived early. I enjoyed Benji getting right in the way, my cats usually try to hide under my mat while I'm yoga-ing so it felt right Smile.

Agree with countfosco about yoga getting harder as you progress through the years - you get a real understanding of where each muscle should be and can work each one in all those poses (except Corpse!).

I know it's only day 2 but I'm pleased to have done 2 days in a row already, it's one of my resolutions to myself to do more of my own practice rather than relying on classes.

NashvilleQueen · 03/01/2018 15:16

My dog sat beside me through most of it. Think he’s excited about my being on the floor.

Eolian · 03/01/2018 15:18

Day 1 done here. I had to be quite stern with ddog. He has a tendency to try and stand on me and lick my face if I'm on the floor. And he weighs 33 kg, so it's not very comfortable. Grin

wintersdawn · 03/01/2018 15:48

Just done day 1 really enjoyed it but does anyone else find their wrists hurt when kneeling on all fours?

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 03/01/2018 16:44

kikis I missed the end too as I didn't realise how long it was and had to leave-but figure most of it better than nothing...
I could definitely feel that I'd been on the mat.
Feeling pleased I did it-I am a big procrastinator and I know I'll feel better for it.
between this and dry january I bloody am Janet-ing virtue

Gumpendorf · 03/01/2018 17:03

Day 2 done here too. Memo to self: don't do on v empty stomach - I did before a late lunch and had to stop half way because I was feeling lightheaded and nauseous.

Finished it after soup with no problems.

Two days in a row is good for me. I'm not a sticker at anything, so this thread is invaluable in keeping me on track. SmileThanks

Hockneypool · 03/01/2018 17:32

2 days done here too. Really loved it and feel so much better already. I haven’t done any yoga since March. It was good to remember why I like it and how it makes me feel.
Wrists and legs need to toughen up as I’m sure they will.

PurpleDaisies · 03/01/2018 17:39

I’ve just done today’s and really enjoyed it. I used to be good at moving to the floor from plank. Now I feel as if I’m causing small earthquakes every time! My back is really stiff across my shoulder blades. Hopefully that will get better as the month goes on.

BuzzKillington · 03/01/2018 17:49

Just did day 2. I did think 36 minutes would drag (I don't know why as actual yoga classes are far longer), but it didn't.

I love pigeon pose.

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 03/01/2018 18:10

I did day 1 yesterday, and remembered that the leap from day 1 to day 2 last year completely broke me! It was months before I yoga'd again after that!

Is day 2 less tough this year? Need to be prepared...

BuzzKillington · 03/01/2018 18:11

Yes, day 2 is long, but very easy this year.

GColdtimer · 03/01/2018 18:26

I enjoyed it but struggle with pigeon pose. Never think I am doing it right as it's never comfortable. Think I might be really right in my hip flexors.

But I loved the warrior sequence. Did it before tea but am going to wait until dc are in bed tomorrow. Couldn't relax as much as I'd like.
