Who's up for a thread to discuss our progress this year? We've had threads following Adriene's 30 days of Yoga for the last few years so sign up now for January.

Based on the last few years I'll warn you now: watch out for day 6!!!!

@WeAreGerbil Yes that helped - thank you! I've done it! Enjoyed it too actually, the slightly faster pace was quite nice.

GColdtimer · 06/01/2018 16:27

I liked the quicker pace today but don't think my mind was properly on it. I normally do it in the evening but we are having a big family curry tonight and I am ight have a glass of wine. Think afternoon practice just feels a bit odd and I kept thinking about my pile of ironing! I did enjoy it tthough. And I would say perfect for after the gym or a run.

I might try and do day 6 in the morning tomorrow.

Tangarine · 06/01/2018 16:32

I’m about to do Day 5. Went running this morning and walked a lot this afternoon so it will be kill or cure for me.

I am really enjoying getting back on my mat every day.

SandAndSea · 06/01/2018 17:31

Went for a walk earlier and now about to do my yoga sesh. Feels good!

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 06/01/2018 17:41

The breathing at the end made me really light headed so i obviously wasn't doing it right. Nice getting on the mat every day though.

WeAreGerbil · 06/01/2018 17:59

I did it. A bit wobbly from the gym but it was a fairly straight forward class. The breathing can make you light headed I think but worth looking at her more detailed lesson on it. I sometimes get out of coordination and push my stomach out instead of pulling it in. I used to do Bikram and it ended every one of those classes.

Hockneypool · 06/01/2018 18:18

Have done day 4 and 5 this afternoon after a cycling session. Feel totally stretched out now. Shoulders are less sore and I think I’m walking taller! Yay - at 5ft 2 that’s very important.
Namaste yogis

Herewegoagain56 · 06/01/2018 20:46

I'm a day behind so just did say 4 and really enjoyed it, my favourite session yet.

I posted a few days ago about how I was struggling to sit straight upright cross legged and I can't believe the difference, it is already so much easier!! Has made me feel really proud that it's actually doing something and helping to strengthen all my muscles 😀 I always feel very calm afterwards too

ClickHip · 06/01/2018 21:06

Just finished day 5 here too. Didnt get into it as much as the other days butf i kept having to break off to help my son make a sandwich Hmm

Really enjoying the half hour for myself and I have to say the calmness seems to be staying with me too Halo (which I'm pleased about , I wasn't expecting that). I feel physically much better, carrying less tension I think?? Anyone else feeling that??

Kikisdeliveries · 06/01/2018 22:35

Yep, I've done days 4 and 5 in the evenings and it's very calming :)

Talisin · 06/01/2018 23:39

First day back at work so first real test of resolve. I was tired and cold and just wanting to go to bed by the time I had the living room to myself but I made myself get out the mat and do day 5. I now feel relaxed, energised and awake. Wish someone had warned me I might need a tissue for that last breathing bit though!

RhinestoneCowgirl · 07/01/2018 07:22

Woke up early so just done day 5 - that breathing bit at the end reminded me of panic attacks and hyperventilating, so I tried but didn't do it.

My shoulders are feeling much more open, and I feeling like I'm 'walking taller' when I do regular yoga.

carrie74 · 07/01/2018 08:48

Am a bit behind: I did circuits on Thursday and saw my PT on Friday, and although I intended to come home and do days 3&4 after each session, I was shredded. Caught up yesterday, and planning on days 5&6 today.

My worst is wide legged seat, I just can't get my legs very far apart at all, and seen little improvement over 2 years of yoga (but we don't go wide legged very often in classes).

I too feel great after, and come downstairs all happy and smiley that I've had that time to myself and feel fab. Namaste bitches!

DragonsAndCakes · 07/01/2018 08:49

Day five done, didn’t feel like it did all that much.

frenchfancy · 07/01/2018 09:13

Day 5 done. Interrupted by a phone call halfway through which doesn't help.

quirkychick · 07/01/2018 09:26

Day 5, here too. I was going to do Day 6, too, but think I'd rather do it early tomorrow than wait for 8am and Day 7 to come online. I really liked this one, I do prefer this kind of pace and length, although I'm sure it's very good for me to go slow and focus on alignment and movement too.

carrie74 I'm with you on wide legged seat, despite 2yrs of pretty much daily yoga.

My legs were more flexible today, but I notice my shoulders are quite stiff (though less than they were). A lot of those shoulder stretches, I need slightly bent arms, but I'm not sure how much is due to elbows that hyperextend as well.

ProseccoLush · 07/01/2018 09:35

Sorry, have only skim read the full thread but ... I’ve never done yoga. I’ve tried to find a local class but can’t now find anything that fits in with the million other things I am juggling.
I run a couple of times a week but need something to improve my core. Is this suitable for complete beginners or should I look for something more basic do you think?

Herewegoagain56 · 07/01/2018 10:42

@Prosecco I'm a beginner at yoga and have found it easy enough to follow so far, give it a try 😀

Just done day 5, enjoyed it but preferred the slower pace of day 4. Also couldn't do those sharp breaths at the end so am glad to read that others found it tricky too!

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 07/01/2018 11:39

Loved day 6, felt great. i struggle when the pace is slow which is something I need to work on, need to calm my butterfly brain!

CountFosco · 07/01/2018 11:57

I've been doing yoga for 15 years and I still struggle with Kapalbhati breath. Just keep at it though, I hated alternate nostil breathing but now I get really into it.

Days 4&5 here today, worked quite well together as a pair. So only a day behind now but I swim before work so probably won't do any yoga now until Friday. I've been in a rhythm of doing either yoga or swimming every day for a few years now so fairly relaxed about falling behind Adriene.

Someone asked upthread about what happens after January ends. Adriene posts once a week on Sunday morning I think. But there is an enormous back catalogue available for free. What I've done the last couple of years is do the previous 30 day series so Revolution (2017), Yoga Camp (2016) and the original 30 days (2015). That's 90 days which at 3 videos a week takes me to the end of the summer. Then I do some of this random historic videos until I get to the end of the year.

Day 6 here and loving it. When it's over I intend to pay for a subscription - I feel I owe it to Adriene to support her when she's doing so much for free.

TheFormidableMrsC · 07/01/2018 12:25

I'm halfway through the 30 day course that is available on YouTube. I am really enjoying it as part of my regular exercise routines. I tend to do mine in the late evening when the house is quiet as I have been very anxious lately and I have found it really calming and helpful with sleep. I am definitely noticing the extra tone it gives you too. Once I have done this I will progress onto something more challenging I think. I do, however, struggle with the breathing and find myself holding my breath a lot! Practice!

Gumpendorf · 07/01/2018 12:28

Day 6 done. That was least favourite, I think. It didn't seem to flow in the same way and I found the plank exercises tough.

mumsie. I'm recovering but still feeling a bit jittery. It's so weird how it just came at me like that from seemingly nowhere. Thanks for asking. Thanks

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 07/01/2018 13:06

Oh I really didn't want to, and goddamn the planks and boat were hard! But I did it!

CountFosco · 07/01/2018 13:09

When it's over I intend to pay for a subscription - I feel I owe it to Adriene to support her when she's doing so much for free.

She isn't doing it for free, she's a massive youtube star. Have a read of the threads about bloggers in style and beauty, they are eye opening. She'll be getting an income from the advertising on youtube, I suspect lots of her outfits will be gifted by the brands as a form of advertising as well, in addition the videas are advertising for her own brand, her taught classes are very popular and she does demonstration tours where lots of people go to see her (if you knew she was coming to the UK wouldn't you want to see her?). I'm not saying don't subscribe if you are interested in pursuing yoga further but only do it for you not for Adriene.
