Who's up for a thread to discuss our progress this year? We've had threads following Adriene's 30 days of Yoga for the last few years so sign up now for January.

Based on the last few years I'll warn you now: watch out for day 6!!!!

Day Three done. Felt good today, nice and relaxed but also felt very 'stretched' afterwards. Three days in already!

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 04/01/2018 21:50

Stomach in the way, check.
Boobs squished, check.
Inability to manoeuvre foot, check.

Basically am a bit crap (which doesn't always bother me, but my husband came upstairs to gawp/chivvy me along. Git).

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 04/01/2018 21:51

On the plus side, have v. flexible hips, so all the pigeons and lotus sits are right up my alley.

Talisin · 04/01/2018 22:14

I can’t step my foot up properly at the moment either but I recall from previous years that I do get better at it during the month. A class most days really does make a big difference for me (now if only I can keep it up for the rest of the year...) My other problem is that I have a really good, non slippy mat which is great for most things but when you actually want your foot to slide, it can’t!

Anyhow, day three done and the muscles over my ribcage which had been twinging all day (I got cramp there yesterday from child’s pose, of all things) have now completely stopped hurting so result Smile

GColdtimer · 04/01/2018 22:14

Day 3 done. I have to hoick my foot through as I can't make it all the way up the mat. I used to be able to do it.....

I agree that if you haven't done much yoga you might want to watch some ofthe foundations videos.

I loved todays practice, really needed to stretch.

For whoever asked about lower back aches, I bend me knees at the end and put my feet on the floor for any lie flat postures. Putting a slightly rolled towel under your bum can also help., I often can't lie flat without my lower back twinging .

mimiasovitch · 04/01/2018 22:19

I loved today's practice. I do enjoy a good deep stretch, and for the first time ever I got my right foot almost up to lunge from dd. No chance with the left, but this has give me hope! It has taken nearly a year after all.

jubbablub · 04/01/2018 22:35

Another foot shuffler here. I have super weird hips/pelvis/posterior chain, so that is just hard!!! Looking forward to tomorrow!! Such a nice practice so far!

quirkychick · 05/01/2018 06:57

mumsie I do both Adriene's yoga and Shiva Rea's because I like to change it up in my morning yoga. Not while I'm doing this 30 day one though! I think some of hers are on YouTube too, my favourites are 20 min daily yoga practices which are easy to fit into doing first thing, I think.

Another foot shuffler, I very tight hips. Weirdly, I can go from lunge to plank no problem, but not the other way around... one day.

As someone who can have lower back issues, I would always start with feet hip width apart and slightly bent knees for things like downward dog, forward bend etc. I might during a practice get my knees straight or bring my feet together but it varies day to day. Also, I sit on a low block or cushion for seated poses, it takes pressure off your back. Adriene has some good videos for lower back/back pain too.

Just done day three. I’m a day behind because I went to my RL yoga class yesterday!
I’m finding her a bit fast in places. Maybe watching it on my phone isn’t ideal. By the time I’ve worked out what she’s doing she’s moving on sometimes. It also doesn’t help that I’ve got the volume on really low so as not to disturb children’s tv viewing!

Cherrypi · 05/01/2018 07:51

Anyone else just doing it on the carpet with an imaginary mat?

DragonsAndCakes · 05/01/2018 07:56

Yep! Although I scoot off the rug onto the wooden floor where I can so I’m not blocking the tv for the children!

glow1984 · 05/01/2018 07:56

Well, on day 1 I failed spectacularly by pulling a muscle under my right boob and it REALLY hurt 😂

So I did day 1 yesterday, and hoping to do 2+3 today and then finish catching up tomorrow. My muscles already feel so much better from having a stretch.

frenchfancy · 05/01/2018 07:56

Day 3 done. I enjoyed it more than the other days, I think because it was more like the yoga I've been doing myself. I've never taken a class so I have no idea what is normal!

Cherry - treat yourself to a mat. My old one cost about £3. I got a new one for Christmas and it is lovely.☺

PurpleDaisies · 05/01/2018 07:57

I missed yesterday due to general busyness so about to do that now. Hopefully will do today’s this evening.

Ulysses · 05/01/2018 08:03

Just finished day 3 and it was mostly pleasant. My breathing is all over the place though and I’m another one who can’t do the lunge from DD very well. It’s a good start to the day with me, sets me up really well.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 05/01/2018 08:20

Anyone else have satisfyingly tight/sore core this am??
Really chuffed that it shows it's making a difference-
am really enjoying it and feel satisfaction that I have not done my usual procrastinate thing and am doing it!!!

Eolian · 05/01/2018 08:27

Yup, me too. I'm also slightly hampered by plantar fasciitis in my left foot and a recovering sprained ankle on the right Grin. I did day 2 yesterday and found the pigeon really hard.

I'm hoping the yoga will help strengthen and stretch things which will help my plantar fasciitis and maybe even enable me to get back to running again.

Oh me too! Lying on your front moves are obviously not designed for people with 32F boobs. I managed to overbalance doing happy baby and fell on the floor-oh dear. At least it wasn’t in front of a class full of people.

I’m also feeling sore in places which is definitely a good thing. It’s really made me want to find a new yoga class.

museumum · 05/01/2018 09:21

@qumquat if your lower back hurts you need to hold your core in more to protect it all the way through - and don’t do the planks yet - stay on your knees.

coffeecow · 05/01/2018 09:23

Just got today's email, seems like a chilled one today which will suit me as I won't get to do it until at least 10pm tonight so will be just before bed.

jubbablub · 05/01/2018 09:46

Today’s practice is so chilled out. It was delightful!!! Lots of pelvic floor and most of it spent lying down with your eyes closed. Bliss!!!

Frenchfemme · 05/01/2018 09:52

Just done Day 2. Like some other posters I can't move my foot all the way forward from DD, and can't do pigeon pose correctly, but I did the best I could. Looking forward to the stretching tomorrow.

Cherrypi · 05/01/2018 10:05

Day 4 is yummy. Though surprised myself by managing the last move. Definitely need to work on my pelvic floor more.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 05/01/2018 10:28

cherry
just finished-and felt exactly the same!! although was shaking a bit I held it.
Makes me feel so good!! Am loving this Glitterball (thought that was the happiest emoticon)

foodiefil · 05/01/2018 10:40

On day 4 - yoga for bad backs. Enjoying it so far!

Anyone got plans for what next after the 30 days?
