(Not racist discrimination et cetera in any way.) If you went into the meeting and pretended to just not remember the comment, as it's only a first level meeting, where could they go from that?

If that’s the case just say you said it and you do disagree with the policy. You are allowed to have an opinion and express it.

ThistleTits · 07/05/2025 00:04

@HRHooha are you a politician, in front of a committee?

ChristmasFluff · 07/05/2025 07:50

Well it depends on if you want to be thought of as offensive, or offensive and a liar.

Hi everyone, I left the thread about 2 million comments ago, but the meeting happened the other day. .
I asked for clarification about in what the issue was with what I'd said.
to be honest, their reasoning was a bit vague and that we all looked a bit embarrassed and I said what the context was of the comment what point I was trying to make. They said ok. And that was it.
really odd. They actually said, (and there was a strong vibe of, ) we have to investigate this but tbh it's bit crap.

I thought you were going to deny saying it?

HRHooha · 12/05/2025 19:41

I was considering it yet

Yeah you were pretty emphatic you were going to deny it 😂

HRHooha · 12/05/2025 20:10

Was I? Where?

Was I? Where?

Pretty much throughout the thread.

Case in point:

"i'm not going to go in there stroppy if they say blah blah said you said this I'll say - okay I don't remember."

Good that it was resolved peaceably in the end though. Smile

OP didn't say she'd deny saying it. She said she'd say she couldn't remember saying it. That's a subtle but important difference.

Saying you don't remember saying something isn't the same as denying you said something.

Only if you fancy yourself as Rumpole of the Bailey.

I don't. Surely you can see there's a difference?

No, in a situation where the OP clearly remembers what was said, to say "I don't recall" is a de facto denial in keeping with Bill Clinton's "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" defence. One is hoping that the accusers will conclude it didn't happen (even though you know it did) because you have stated you have no recollection. So trying to get off on a technicality.

That would be a lie and disingenuous. I'm glad she didn't go down a route that would likely have made the situation worse and that it worked out in the end.

There is - but also starkly different from what she actually ended up doing.

Nope, Bill Clinton's "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" was an outright denial and OP's comparable response to HR (if she'd actually said it) would have been "I did not say that". Her proposed response, however, of "I don't remember saying that" would have been like Bill Clinton saying "I don't remember having sexual relations with that woman."
In any case, we all knew OP's "I don't remember" defence was disingenuous since she actually told us she could remember, but it's still different from a flat-out denial like Bill Clinton's.

I recall Bill Clinton denying he'd denied it because he said he was referring to penetrative sex, rather than oral. More technicalities. Grin

Anyway, we'll have to agree to disagree. All's well that ends well, in this case.
