I've started a new thread, as the old one seemed to have ended. Apologies if I have missed anyone.

Has anyone had problems with their footpedal working today? Not with DICT8 but other software. Worked this morning on new laptop, but not after lunch! Have had to get my old laptop out and it works on that one so not the footpedal. Weird.

Gally123 no I haven't had any problems today.

Hi everyone, long time hope you are all well.
Soooooooooo...its official, the NHS will have AI transcribing the clinic letters !!!🤔

Gally123 · 05/07/2026 20:13

@Cherryblossom114 - I have not seen this announced, I can only find that they are using AI to triage patients as to whether to see a doctor or go to pharmacy etc and that doctors use AI for note taking, but I cannot find any mentioned of using AI for clinic letters.

@Cherryblossom114 yes, I’ve just seen that, very worrying for us home transcribers 😢

That also. A doctor was on I think Lbc radio and was really excited that he could get his letter printed up there and then and give to the patient by the click of a button ...so to speak and how it will cut back on his admin time and not having to wait about for the letter to come back

Gally123 · 06/07/2026 20:20

@Cherryblossom114 so it sounds like he's talking about a type of voice recognition, which some hospitals have been using for a long time, it's nothing new really. At the hospital where I worked about 15 years ago now they bought software for it, but then they discovered they needed to buy an upgrade, before it would work properly, more expense and they gave up as just too expensive. I suppose the AI bit means it will correct its own grammar etc inside of secretaries doing it.

I work for Bucks NHS trust. We are implementing it currently - one department is currently testing with the aim to roll out to all departments in September!

Hello all! Coming back to transcription work after a significant break. Does anyone know if Bluetooth foot pedals are a thing? If so can anyone recommend? Thanks!

Tpro · 07/07/2026 12:01

Some trusts are using the system Tpro which is voice recognition but we still have to edit every letter. This is not consultant proof but it is much quicker and I cant see it being outsourced ..every letter needs checking and altering but so much quicker.

Katwoman1960 · 07/07/2026 16:29

Just as well get my state pension this year. This is affecting us transcribers very much

astra9 · 07/07/2026 21:15

I work at Oxford and we are about to start using an AI system that listens in to the appointment and drafts a report based on the conversation. It's been tested last year and it actually works pretty well. Although it needs to be checked straight away as it "hallucinates" - makes stuff up! This is being welcomed in my department - with the way things are we can't get enough admin staff so we're having to do all the admin ourselves plus the clinics. Unfortunately it's the way things are going.

olddoglover · 07/07/2026 21:55

Well the admin pay is so low why would anyone work in the NHS. You can work as a cleaner and get £20 an hour for less hassle.

That sounds about right, bit like the choose and book, they never allow for any of the additional expense of software.....hence they always always have to abandon ship...I am clapping with one hand

That used to be My evening job after my day job... remember them. Before the digital age and cleaning companies.. How I love those days 😂😂

Thanks for that, now we can plan out our future of life on the dole. I think the govt secretly wants us all on the dole...🥲

olddoglover · 08/07/2026 16:18

@Cherryblossom114 I have actually been thinking that for a while now - that they want everyone on the dole! So the country will be going bankrupt with no average people paying taxes, all the rich people will move abroad and big companies will work out a way to avoid paying taxes. I have my pension already but still need to work, cannot afford a decent standard of living on a pension (I am on the old pension which is less than the current one)

olddoglover · 08/07/2026 16:39

@YellowBellyLola Are all the secretaries going to keep their jobs? or will there be redundancies? You may have to proofread the letters?

We have been told there will be no redundancies. I think it’ll go more ‘patient pathway coordinator’ job role.

Katwoman1960 · 10/07/2026 08:05

I just think it is mad. The secretary used to type what the Consultant dictated and then he or she checked the letters. Doing it in the reverse to me is unsafe.

And even then we didnt always get it right, so they think AI be better than us...good luck to them I say since they want to cancel us out. Long live DICT8 at least until I've had enough. 🙏🏿 😂

TheCandidGoose · 23/07/2026 10:01

Well - ive had no typing on the system nearly all week - literally nothing all day long! Really am considering having to find a job elsewhere now.

Katwoman1960 · 23/07/2026 20:18

Crazy!!! AI isn't everything. It will go full circle!!
